How long has it been? Only a year. A year since the world itself changed. And you know, no one even knows about how it happened. That's the thing about this part of daily life for certain people. It all remains hidden in the dark, underground clean up jobs to keep humanity safe, from itself.
One of the Puella Magi had said, that all they had as Puella, were each other, no one else. How correct she was to say that, no matter how optimistic your view on the matter may turn out to be.
The only ones who knew of what had happened a year ago, were the Puella involved. When a girl named Madoka Kaname formed a contract to become one of the Puella Magi on the Walpurgis Night. Kyuubey.....Incubator, gained who was to be the most powerful Puella Magi to come into existence.
Every girl got a wish when they became Puella Magi. For whatever they wanted. Of all the possibilities, what Kyuubey did not forsee happening, not even the time traveler Puella Magi Homura Akemi could ever know of, Madoka made the largest life-changing wish she could have made. She wished all witches away from every single existence, with her own hands. The paradox that resulted eliminated the threat of witches, as well as Madoka's own witch, the very witch that of all witches was bound to destroy the world with its power. Madoka had created a massive paradox that had saved her friends and more. In doing so, she escaped humanity and ascended into a godly state, literally becoming a goddess herself.
It's been a year since. Lives go on. Homura hasn't used her time abilities since that night. There was no longer any need to. The only reason why she had used them in the first place was to save the very girl that she now no longer had to save. However the weight of knowing she couldn't see her again until the fated day she finally breathed a final time isn't without its heavy emotion.
The other girls live their lives as well. Mami goes on a slow recovery from the loneliness she was too familiar with, with her friends Kyouko and Homura, as well as others. Kyouko goes on like Homura and Mami fighting the demons that replaced witches, content as she could be with her life as it was now. But she couldn't help but wonder, if Sayaka or even Madoka were somewhere in the heavens watching her from time to time. How would her life be different now if certain people had chosen to continue living?
Leaving time alone, one would wish for it to heal its own wounds, correct?
Wrong. Toying with time takes its toll. And with the amount of times Akemi jumped timelines, the time she's spent on it, the heavy wound of the time paradox that Madoka herself had created, time and space is inflicted with injuries that not even a goddess could repair. Worse, a separate entity appears to have taken interest in the damaged timelines.
Unknown tampering causes the timelines to unravel and tear apart as worlds collide. The heroines find themselves staring into the eyes of altered versions of themselves. They find old friends forcibly returning, Sayaka revived, and confused, in the city she once knew when she was alive. Madoka finds herself human again, powers restricted. To add to things, new heroes and heroines rise to the occasion, some of them long-time Magi who hear of the uprise of time, and others brand new Magi who strangely awake with their abilities with no knowledge of why or how they obtained them. And who are these altered versions of the city's Magi, so strikingly similar in appearance to them, but with one major physical difference?
Only time will tell, that is, if time survives long enough for you to see the truth. Kyuubey returns, along with others who claim to be of his kind. He claims that the girls and boys are going to need them again.
But why? Can they be trusted?
