I can understand the intentions of Gaia enabling zOMG! to be free and not have to be downloaded, but I get this funny feeling that the fact that it doesn't have to be downloaded is one of the major causes of severe lag.

As much as I enjoy zOMG!, more and more I can't stand the frequent lag spikes I receive. Lag spikes, or whatever you want to call them, occur particularly when I'm in crews, obviously due to simultaneous information transfer in the networks, but sometimes even when I go solo I still experience lag. When the game lags it locks up temporarily; the game can still receive keyboard input while locked up, but I don't like the idea of it being locked up only to reveal that I was snuffed by an enemy in the game.
I imagine that when I'm in crews they probably don't experience the lag issues I occassionally receive, and they may think I'm just standing there like a bumbling buffoon instead of trying to help them; this is partly why I prefer to go solo in zOMG!.

Does anyone here think that network performance would make a difference if zOMG! were an application that could be accessed from your computer? Obviously first it would have to be downloaded, then installed, but I'll leave all that up to Gaia Interactive, Inc. as to how to plan releasing it. If they put a price on it, I don't care, though being able to pay with Gaia Cash would be cool.

Come to think of it, what if the lag issues aren't network-related, but RAM-related? My computer came with 1022MB of RAM, though I've been meaning to purchase a RAM card in the future. Would extra RAM help improve performance when playing zOMG!?
As for my modem, it's a Qwest cable modem able to handle up to 7mpbs. Unless zOMG! has a System Requirements reference that I missed out on, I'd think that my modem can handle zOMG! at least optimally.

I imagine that there have been thousands of threads complaining about lag issues and other ideas conceived as ways of remedying day-to-day lag issues for the game. Because of this, I apologize if this thread feels redundant.

Anyway, the devs already established and stated that creating a download at this time would not help to ease lag, and would actually create more of a hassle, as every single patch would have to be downloaded, and there would have to be a version for every operating system. All in all, too tedious the way things are right now. That's not to say it won't happen in the future, but for now, it's not gonna happen.

And again, I say the devs have already stated that making it downloadable wouldn't ease the lag. I can probably find the quote if you find my own statements unsatisfactory.

When I'm lagging I just re-start the zOMG! window and it's fixed.

The reason why I play zOMG! is because (well one of the reasons) I don't have to download and install a program >_o

Oh. I forgot about that. Yeah, I guess millions of people downloading their game would be pretty laggy in itself.

But what about RAM? I've got 1GB of RAM on my comp; could that have something to do with laggy performance?

Eh, maybe, but doubtful. Also, downloading it would be pretty unfeasible due to zOMG being a flash game, since... well, you know... flash is run on internet programs, not main computer programs. Like I said, it might happen in the future, but there's pretty much no hope for it at the current time.
It just occurred to me that someone once recommended that I install Microsoft Silverlight; supposedly Silverlight helps greatly with zOMG!.

Well, I just got finished installing it. I'm about to restart my computer. But anyway, is it true that Silverlight helps? Just checking.

I've no idea, to be honest. I've never even heard of Silverlight before your mentioning. xd

It's an add-on to Flash. It can help if your Flash isn't up to date or working as well as it could be. You might notice a change, you might not.

Remember, zOMG is still in beta. You think the lag is bad now? You should have been around several months ago. That just means the lag has improved greatly since open beta started, and it will continue to do so as the developers fix up leaks and improve frame rate.

Thanks for the info.

And as for Silverlight, I installed that and decided to install whatever latest version of Adobe Flash & Shockwave was available. I want to state for the record that I do notice a change in performance, positively-speaking. However I still set my graphics in the game to the lowest setting to make sure it runs smoothly.
