Welcome to LotR! And no, I am not talking about Lord of the Rings. (Sorry if I disappointed anyone.) As the banner above shows, LotR stands for Luck of the Roll! Oooh, whazzat?! It's a writing contest, of course, but with a twist! It's prompt based, but your fate will determined by a roll of dice! Simply put: you don't get to choose your prompt.
Whaaaaat?! Yeah, I know, but that's what makes it interesting. You will roll dice to decide what you will be writing. I wanted to make it challenging. But don't flip out now! There's no risk with this gamble, money-wise: this contest is 100% free. Still here? Goodie. Keep reading and I hope you decide to give it a try!

- Do not question my authority, or my authority will question you.

- NO whinning, begging, bumping, complaining, fighting, plagiarizing, booger picking, page sketching, or breaking the rules.

- No poetry, fanfiction, and/or script styles. Sorry, but it's short stories only. However, all genres are accepted.

- Nothing "R rated" please. It's PG-13 and under, so to speak.

- All entries will be posted here in the thread, so don't bother PMing it to me. Just post it.

- One entry per person. Min. word limit is 500 words. Max. word limit is 13,000.

- I'm outta rules now, but I can add more if I need to! Please just use your common sense and be nice.

[Entering]

Anyone can enter and it's quite simple. If you decide you wanna enter, when you post, hit 'post action' and select one twenty-sided dice. The number you roll is the number prompt you get! After you post, immediately PM me the number you rolled as well as your post URL. This is so I can confirm your number and keep track of it.

When you have your number, find it on the prompt list, highlight it, and there you go. Some of the prompts are pretty straight forward, while others may be a quote, phrase, or even just a word. Interpret it however you want, as long as it clearly relates to the prompt somehow. Remember, creativity is your friend.

You can only roll once. If you get a prompt you don't like, too bad. Either you write what you got or you don't write at all. Don't even try to cheat--I'll catch you. It's true that some prompts may be easier than others, none of them are exceedingly difficult. No complaining. However, if you don't understand your prompt or are having trouble writing something for it, feel free to PM me and I'll try to help you out.
There is no entry fee. However, if you'd like to donate, please do so! All donations will go directly towards the prizes. Please label your donation so I know it's for the contest.

I will be the only judge.
Here is what I'll be judging on:

GUMS: Grammar, usage, mechanics, spelling. I can understand a mistake or typo here and there, but better make sure your entry is nice and neat before the deadline rolls around or you'll lose major points.

Prompt Usage: Basically, did you write according to what the prompt called for?

Plot: Characters, setting, storyline! They're all part of the plot. You better have one.

Creativity: Is it original? Different? Unique? Make your story stand out!

Interest: This is where I get biased; but hey, it's my contest. I'm paying for the whole thing. This is what I'm getting out of it. Does it interest me? Will I enjoy it? Will it hold my attention? By the way, no, I won't tell you what I do and do not like. xP Sorry, but I gotta keep with the theme of the contest: it's all up to chance.

Yes, you may submit an excerpt of something you've already written, on two conditions: 1) It meets the prompt's requirements and 2) I will be able to understand most of it without having to know about the rest of the story.

Yes, it can be an excerpt (see above) and no, your story does not have to be finished to submit it. Just make sure it still makes sense and doesn't tapper off without a conclusion.
