((A friend and I "justify" hooking up the Scarecrow and Poison Ivy just for kicks and giggles on that last one, and make it a game to find any comic cover/panel where they are remotely close to each other. Then again, it almost amazes me with how many comic covers
alone we found...
There was this one from the 70's that really took that cake, though. There were like six villains gathered at what was supposedly Batman's funeral. Everyone EXCEPT Scarecrow and Ivy were saying, "I killed him!" while the two of them were positioned where they could have been looking at each other, and Ivy has this knowing smirk...
Canon? Debatable. Funny? Hell yes!))
((I always had Ivy pegged as a lesbian who had the hots for Harley Quinn. She always seems so angry about the Joker every time Harley mentions him, especially when she's considering going back to him. I realise Ivy doesn't like ANY men, but it seems to be especially vicious towards the Joker.
I LOVE the idea of terrible (or really well written!) fanfiction of Poison Ivy and the Scarecrow though. Makes just as much sense as some of the other stupid pairings I've seen in fanfiction. In fact, possibly more so, since they both have that poison thing going on.))
((I personally think she is bi. In the cartoon, she wanted a family---husband, kids, etc.---and this translates over in some comics. And while she is not afraid to use men to the point of sleeping with them, I have some comics where she works well with men, and she has had a lot of [mostly bad] boyfriends before her transformation. In one version of her back story, she had a boyfriend she actually loved, but accidentally killed because she did not realize how toxic she was. And I am not even going to
touch the ones where she seems to have a thing for Batman...those fall anywhere from "believable" to "the author was clearly on drugs."
And Ivy's man-hate in general also REALLY depends on the author. There are some comics where she hates humanity equally [the cartoon went with this in some episodes. "Eternal Youth" would be a good one to check out in that regard], some where it is only
certain men she hates [she tolerates/gets along with others], and others where the man-hate is cranked up so much, it feels more like a straw-feminist gimmick than actual characterization. But while her special hate for the Joker
does mostly come from how he treats Harley [I seriously think she would not be
nearly as hateful if he treated her right], it is also because of his maniacal tendencies. Considering he has more than once killed plants/otherwise done harm to her to intentionally piss her off probably does not help...
I actually
do have a
good one for you to read! But that author in-general writes great fanfiction.
I will admit that Ivy/Scarecrow is one of my personal favorite crack pairings, and I can make more arguments on how it could work: they both do not care about humanity [and thus their goals would mesh: Ivy can punish certain operations while Crane gets a controlled group for his fear experiments], both are solitary [and would give each other space], both are chemists/geniuses, they have some good contrasting counterbalance in their personalities...I could go on. And I have an equally long list of the problems that would come up, such as again, the contrast in their personalities [Ivy seems a bit physical, where it is hinted Crane has an aversion to being touched, for example],
both of their romantic histories, the fact that they are both manipulative control freaks, etc. But that only adds to the appeal for me.
Cracktastic [and unhealthy] as it is, it still makes a lot more sense than other pairings I have seen with either half...
I wish DC would at
least do a team-up, though, because that would be wicked awesome. That, and N likes chaos, and there would be a lot of it.))
