Above, wings fluttered and a bird flew from one balcony to another. The church was old, long ago abandoned in the chaos of the New War. What was amazing was that she was alone today, no one else here to stir the dust in the pews. Sunlight drifted down in lazy bars, striking the lectern at the front of the room. Her hands shook as she lifted the bible resting there, and idly turned to a page, looking for words of hope in a world that was disintegrating around her.

There has to break in these woods somewhere, anywhere to escape....

Jordan struggled against the underbrush, running as hard as his already exhausted body would allow him to. Finally, there was a clearing ahead and something...yellow? He fell into the open and found himself an arms length from an old taxi cab. As his head cleared and he jumped back to his feet he could see more, many more. Sweat dripped from his hair, fell to the ground to join the earth. From behind him, he could hear his pursuer fast on his trail. There had to be a way to hide here, if only he could get there fast enough without being seen.

It was bright still, the mid day sun beating down heavily on his shoulders. Everywhere, yellow and rust glared back at him.
