Feedback, and why it doesn't happen.

For those who say they won't give feedback because they posted in the wrong forum, that's just pretty sad. Gaia is a slow as ever and the first place people look at is the writers forum not the subforum for original work. Even when feedback is asked ther probably will be only one post or nothing at all. Just check the subforum and its evident the lack or responses or discussion.

I personally love reading random works just to know other peoples thoughts when they write, the problem is and why I don't provide feedback is because my grammar is horrible and I don't give critical opinions other than that basic stuff.

This is why I hate people. I don't give feedback cause I'm too lazy to read.
That's why people's work is bad cause no one wants to help them.

Perhaps asking for feedback here makes the writer seem too amateurish and reading that kind of work would be taking away time from reading something I know I will actually enjoy at home.

If the writer doesn't summarize their story either there's not much allure to attract attention.

I myself only read stories on fanfiction sites anyway.

The thing is, when you're giving feedback, it's not all going to be positive. Some people can handle that; some people can't.

Not reading the rules and posting in the wrong forum is a warning sign. I'm not saying that everyone who makes a misplaced thread is going to act like this, but again, it's just not always worth it to give them the benefit of the doubt.

I hate giving feedback most of the time because I feel like they are just expecting to get their literary balls washed, and when I have anything negative to say everybody involved becomes a bad guy from some angle.

To be honest? It's because I believe in at least having one nice thing to say, and I often... don't have anything that isn't concrit when people post writing on Gaia.

So many reasons listed! I wasn't expecting almost two full pages of feedback and opinions on why feedback isn't given to pieces posted here. I'll go and put your varied opinions up in the first post, purely to keep everything together and give anyone asking for feedback something to mull over. That's assuming, of course, that they look at this thread in the first place and don't just put their own story/poetry/whatever thread up and then start whining just because no-one gives them feedback.

There's just no helping some people.
