Many, many thousands of years ago there existed a civilization which worshiped their priests of sleep as gods. These priests were known as the Oneroi, at the whim of the god Icelus, and cats were holy to them, because they slept so much and so deeply.

The furry creatures overran the temples, and the people of their civilizations revered the cats so much that the sleep-god grew angry, and gave to his priests the features of a cat, which as they matured would grow less apparent. As babies, however, their line was born with furry catlike ears and a tail, and their hands and feet resembled paws. The Oneroi priests were born with eyes and ears closed, in deference to cats, and slept away the first week of their lives. The commoners say that during this first week of deep sleeping, the priests became closer to and communed with their patron god and gained some of his power.

Eventually these priests' egos grew bloated with their power over the people, and instead of carrying out their god's wishes of sweet dreams for the simpler town folk, they began to terrorize them, giving them dark dreams that became known as nightmares. One child, on a dark, frightening night, when even the priests slept, had the nerve however to approach Icelus' altar in the temple. The god, who had left the earthly work to his priests, turned his vengeful eye upon them now, at the begging of the child. In fury, he cast them from grace.

Instead of being born to human families, Icelus cursed the priests to be born alone and cold, and to have to struggle for their lives, to free themselves from eggs. They would no longer have the benefit of communing with him for the week of their birth; immediately they would have to go out into the world to find their own power. He turned his face from them, and each and every priest found with despair that their bodies were growing smaller...

Oh my, there seems to be a few pages missing from the history book! Something about the origin of nightmares and a rebellion. Oh well. Guess it couldn't have been THAT important...

He was the first to hatch that he knew of, and now he sought to find his reborn comrades safe homes in which to grow and learn their powers in safety...

Types
There are three types of oneroi; elemental, adverse, and skotos. The type of oneroi is determined by their past life as a priest of dreams working for Icelus.

If the oneroi was pure and faithful to their God, they were elemental and given the least punishment.

If the oneroi fought Icelus but gave in toward the end of the fight, they were labeled adverse. They were not evil, but they had the potential for it and made a point to show Icelus.

If they never gave in and lived the life of sin and evil giving nightmares to innocent people and terrorized the villages, they were labeled skotos, the bottom of the barrel.

The difference is their personality in their past. This does not always effect how they are to be played now. Perhaps the way you raise them changes their behavior or perhaps good or bad behavior comes naturally to them. Whatever type they were is their past self. They can change, but it will take a lot of work. I hope you're ready to raise your oneroi...

Abilities
Your oneroi will be gifted with instinctive abilities. These do not count as powers, more along the lines of natural abilities they are born with.

Your oneroi has the ability to sense other oneroi. This comes in handy in locating the shop. Many oneroi live in the shop so the oneroi child, curious as can be, will be naturally drawn toward the shop by the presence of others like themselves. Even within its egg it will tend to edge toward the shop.

Gameplay
There are two modes of gameplay. Strays and Owned.

Strays are oneroi who do not have owners. In this mode you can only play your oneroi and not yourself. Strays gives the oneroi a bit more independence. They have no family and no one to answer to. This in mind, they may be a little rough around the edges and unwilling to receive help, but that's all in the individual. This can only be used if you receive your oneroi at teen stage unless you say your oneroi was raised in an orphanage and can then change their residence to the shop. I would hate to have homeless children wandering the streets.

Owned Oneroi has the option of playing both yourself and your oneroi. If you own more than one, you can treat them all like a family of brothers and sisters with you as the "mother" or "father" of them all.

Concept
This shop concept was loosely based off of the Greek Gods of dreams. The only things taken from these myths was the name Oneroi (Oneiroi) and the fact that they were Gods of Dreams. The rp and concept are relatively original. Small things were changed from a series Dream-Hunters by Sherrilyn Kenyon. The Skotos are loosely based off of the Skoti in the series and the name D'Arian was slightly changed from D'Alerian.

The concept of the shop was created by Petite Kitsune. I have never heard or read this series. Now that I have looked it up I wanted to give it it's proper credit.

The name Icelus is also a part of greek mythology and it was believed he shaped dreams.

Setting
The time period for this rp is modern. In this world not many people know of or understand the oneroi as it is only a relatively recent thing that the oneroi are coming back into existence and being reborn.

The shop exists to find the oneroi as early as possible and find homes with loving families who will understand and help them work through their pasts. It is also something like a boarding house for the oneroi and their families so that they can stay close to others like them.

The time period of the past where the oneroi originally existed was a more ancient Greek time period when there were patron gods of many things and the oneroi so happened to be priests of the god of dreams. They worshiped in Greek temples, wore robes, though no specific geological location will be given or mentioned in these rps. This description is just to give you something to go off of.

An Oneroi child goes through five (six, if you count the egg!) phases of life, just as they did in the old days. Each phase can be prolonged or shortened by the way their 'foster parents' in this world teach them.

Egg:
This stage normally lasts from 5 - 15 days. Your Oneroi is still sound asleep inside his or her egg, and has been sleeping for a long time. Try to hold it and keep it warm as much as you can. Some Oneroi, however, are rather averse to being touched in egg form and might try to get themselves dropped. Be careful! Though they are hard to break, if you drop an Oneroi egg you might be rewarded with a premature Oneroi.

Toddler:
This stage normally lasts about two weeks but longer toddler stages have occured. Your Oneroi is very much awake now! While he was groggy for a couple of days from his long sleep, he is active now and already learning his personality! He can motivate like any child, and he probably isn't very happy. He doesn't sleep very well usually, but when he does, he can sleep for hours and hours on end -- but then, he can also play with the same vigor. Depending on his alliance with the elements, he might also be able to emit short bursts of energy, so if you have a fire Oneroi, you might end up with a literal hotseat! The power is raw and undefined but that doesn't mean it won't hurt!

Child:
You've handled your child this long. Think you can face the upcoming teen years? The children are now just old enough to becoming curious about the world around them. Questions will be asked, children will want more toys, parents will demand aspirin, and someone has colored all over the walls! The battle between child and parent continues!

Teenager:
This stage lasts the longest. This is when your Oneroi undergoes the most changes. Mood swings, rebellion and confusion reign in this stage, as well as the beginning of romance. Most Oneroi learn from Lucifer D'Arian how to handle their vastly swelling magical abilities. They begin to sleep more, and deeper. Some fearful parents try to keep their Oneroi from this, but it is perfectly natural as the teenager grows closer to their Dreaming phase. Breeding can begin at this time; Oneroi are fully potent in teenage form. Some skotos and adverse are plagued with nightmares of their past lives if they were evil. Pure hearted oneroi receive sweet dreams.

Dreaming:
As a teenage Oneroi grows up, they begin to sleep more and more, until finally one day they curl up to nap and don't wake. This is COMPLETELY natural! While this stage does not have its own art, it is still worth mentioning because it is an extremely important stage your oneroi goes through. Upon getting notifications that your oneroi is ready for dreaming, your oneroi will fall into a deep sleep. At this time the past of your oneroi will be revealed and you will be given an rp to complete. Your oneroi will have a long dream in which they confront their past life. Whether or not they change their ways or continue their reign of terror is up to them to decide. (No matter what path your oneroi takes, they will reach the next stage) When the task is complete to the satisfaction of the owners, your oneroi will move into the final stage.

Adult:
After the long and hard journey through their past, the oneroi will emerge a full adult with the ability to give dreams, good or bad, to others. They are free to take their life into any direction they wish, whether it is making up for their sinful past life, continuing as a priest of dreams, taking care of, teaching, or locating oneroi children, or simply using their individual elemental abilities to aid in a normal job (Ex: water oneroi become a fire fighter; Fire oneroi becomes a pyrotechnical engineer) This stage is INTENSELY rp required and rarely is reached.

When your Oneroi reach teen stage their urge to reproduce will be strong~ So, can you bear to let your Oneroi be an adult -- can you bear to be a grandparent? O_O

An oneroi breeding happens when two parents feel strong emotion for one another -- this binds them together temporarily, and brings a deep, deep sleep for a day or two. When they awake, each parent will have dreamed of a child, and someone with keen sight may see a faint, wavering outline of an impish little baby, like a ghost, clinging to the parent it chose. Soon enough, the parents will sleep one night -- and when they wake, there will be a fresh egg, lying very still on the pillow beside them, ready to be taken care of!

There are only two breeding slots per month, and breedings cost 10K (5k from each owner). And yes, same-gender couples ( trios? quartets? D: ) can still mate (we're all open-minded here) and produce a proper pair of eggs!

Chapter 1 - Intro to Spells
Most oneroi have their own individual powers based on their elements. These powers can be created by the shopkeepers or by the owners themselves. Some are pretty self explanatory, for example, a fire element oneroi naturally has power over fire and anything that goes with that. The creation and manipulation of the element can serve various purposes, for defense and attacking. However, there are some elements that don't have such and easy topic to create abilities for. Chaos can perhaps make things within a certain radius move and turn crowds into angry mobs at will. Christmas Spirit can make it snow, fix a string a Christmas lights with a single touch, and pull gifts out of nowhere. Romance can rain sakura petals from the sky to... ahem... set the mood. It all depends on the creativity of the owner.

Now, it is important to consider limitations and not let your character play God. Try to come up with two or three specific abilities your oneroi has based off of the element they were born under. Unless they are based off of a preexisting cosplay character their powers should be somewhat limited.

But for those abilities that don't always come naturally to your oneroi, or for oneroi that don't seem to be able to do much on their own, we have spell books to help them out.

Some spells may be difficult for some oneroi, especially if they are just starting out. Simply saying the words do not set off the spell, you have to put the right concentration and energy into it, otherwise saying the words in normal conversation would cause quite a commotion. Spells may have no effect or they may backfire if done wrong so watch out!

Chapter 2 - Buff/Debuff Spells:
Some spells are too advanced for certain age groups and so the spells were divided into individual brackets for the protection of the younger oneroi. Though there are some who will attempt them in hopes of feeling older, the only results they will get are either no effect or a big fat backfire.

Hand motions for the spells are not so much for rp purposes as much as they are for visualizing the fights and spells being performed in your head while interacting with each other.

Green Spells - Children and up :: Blue Spells - Teen and up :: Red Spells - Adult only
Italic Words - Motions or positions required to cast the spell

Sleep :: Causes the intended to fall asleep. Position one hand out over the victim's eyes and move it down as if mentally willing their eyes shut.
Concealed Sight- Fills the room with a mist to assist in hiding or escaping... or high school plays and rave parties. Flinging both arms out, like the umpire signal for 'safe'. Wills the mist to spread throughout the room.
Wall :: Forms an invisible shield around the caster that only wards off against weaker spells and will shatter if it takes too much damage. It is only visible at the point a spell impacts it or when it is shattering. Put both hands out as if pressing against an invisible wall.
Light :: Can generate as a ball of light floating before the caster or it can temporarily generate lights that have done out due to a storm or other electrical failure. Can also be used to temporarily blind enemies. For the ball of light, hold hands out as if holding an invisible ball and mentally will your energy from your palms to the space between them. Energy is heat, heat is light. For repairing ceiling lights, simply direct the palm of your hand toward the intended light.
Bind :: To cause the victim to be immobilized for five minutes. Point your palm toward the intended and then form a fist.
Mute :: Can be cast to quiet an individual, a surrounding area, or one's own self. Point at the mouth of the intended.
Protect :: Creates a barrier around someone else but deals the damage to the caster instead. Somewhat self-sacrificing. Point your palm toward the intended and brace yourself.
Leap :: Gives the caster the ability to jump almost weightlessly several extra feet into the air. It makes for great combat fighting. There is no real motion. Just jump.
Haste :: Allows the caster to move with great speed and agility. No specific motion.

Chapter 3 - Dark Magic:
WARNING: Dark magic can only be used by skotos and the more aggressive adverse. If an elemental tried it there would be no effect as hatred and a good bit of darkness is involved to make them work. Also, Do not use dark drought or plague without permission from the owner of the oneroi it is to be used on. I don't want angry private messages.

Gasp :: Chokes the victim for 30 seconds, usually creating panic or light-headedness that can be used as a diversion for escape or further attacks. Hold your hand or hands out in the direction of the victim and clutch the air as if strangling and invisible neck.
Blink :: Causes temporary blindness in the victim. Snap your fingers in the direction of the victim.
Life Drain :: Drains the victim's energy and gives it to the caster. This spell will stop working once the victim is simply unable to stand. It cannot result in death. (Their energy will eventually return. The effects are temporary.) Similar to Wall, hold your hand or hands with the palms facing the victim to receive the blue mist of energy you are draining through your hands.
Dark Drought :: Will cause the victim swimming in or drinking the contaminated substance to temporary yet considerable pain or illness. Said while placing fingertip lightly in a liquid substance such as a pool or beverage.
Plague :: Transfers a severe illness. Performed by breathing the words into the victim's face, transferring a black mist from your own mouth into theirs. Quite creepy to watch. Can also be transfered by saying the spell and then kissing the victim.

Chapter 4 - Countering Spells
The counter spell eliminates the effects of all debuff spells, however, countering a spell is not as simple as simply yelling 'counter'. It is a more intermediate spell only to be used by teens and adults and more specifically only elemental oneroi and the more pure of heart adverse.. For each spell to be countered it has its own unique hand motions. Perform a motion similar to the motion involved in the spell you are countering. For mute, point at the victim's mouth. For Concealed Sight, bring your hands together, recollecting the mist that was scattered. For sleep, bring your hand up instead of down. The motion is either the exact same or the exact opposite. In most cases it will be common sense which is it, but for the sake of arguing, it will be listed here as more debuff spells are added. Unfortunately, this does not work for Dark magic.

Dark Magic can only be countered by an oneroi with natural healing abilities or eventually wearing off.

Chapter 5 - Advanced Spells:

Chapter 6 - Wordless Spells:
When an oneroi reaches adulthood they are able to perform spells without having to say the name of it out loud. The hand motions are still required and the word must be thought and concentrated on but it keeps the attack more of a surprise and helps if the mute spell has been cast on them. These can also be cast by teenage magic prodigies.

Advanced spells, as seen in the previous chapter, cannot be cast wordlessly. They must be chanted out loud.

Chapter 7 - Magic Prodigies:
Upon purchasing a spell book each oneroi is given the chance to see if they are a prodigy. Create an action post here in the guild that picks a random number from 1 to 100. If the number ends in a 5 your oneroi will have no problem learning spells faster than others and will be able to use wordless spells once they reach their teen stage. You only get one shot at it. Please be sure to put the name of the oneroi you are rolling for in the post.

I am a new adult oneroi but being that I am only half oneroi, I do not share many of the hassles the full blooded oneroi do. I usually draw my lineart in pencil, scan it, and then ink and color it using photoshop. I usually use hard edge but lately I decided to try something different and hopefully improve my soft edge skills. So far I'm very happy with the progress I'm making and I hope you do too. heart

Petite Kitsune

Most of my lineart is drawn in .07 lead pencil, on bristol board, and scanned, just like Deshi. Usually, I use soft-edge -- but recently have learnt hard-edge. 8D;;; So, I'll be using whatever suits my dainty little fancy for these lovelies. As I'm the primary colorist for the boys, you'll see a marked difference in the art styles -- But I just know you can find one to suit yer fancy~

I love cell-shading~ I guess you could call it my passion. I've been coloring for a while now, and I love it more and more each day. Working in shops helps me better myself and it also gets things finished for others, so I guess it's good all around. xD Umm... I can't think of much else to say, so I'll just meow and be done with it... Nya!

Howdy! I draw my stuff with a Kuromi ♥ pencil. Point five lead to be exact. Design and detail have always been a first love of mine. Everything I doodle is done by hand, meticulously edited and perfected just for your viewing pleasure. So expect everything of mine to be superfly! 8D

+ Custom means custom. I'll draw them however you wish, except cosplay, but I will have to discuss with you the element and type a bit to make sure they fit with the storyline. Hell, I'll even let you come up with it's back story if you want.
