There once was a user named RachiePoo. And she had a very sad story to tell. It didn't begin that sad--for actually, the beginning of this story was quite happy. She created an account around May of 2004 and instantly became a gaian addict. When she got her first rare--a giftbox--she was ecstatic. And she always opened her rares...even if she knew there was a chance that the things within were a lot cheaper than the actual rare was. She didn't care. Curiosity got the better of her.
She got a trading and vending pass first, as a n00b. She wanted to buy all her expenses first, because she thought they might be useful in the near future. And, they were. Trading, selling, and buying items became very useful for her.
RachiePoo browsed the Anime forums quite a lot. She participated a bit in threads that involved shows like Gravitation and Fruits Basket. And then she decided to create her own thread--THE OFFICIAL YAOI AND SHOUNEN AI THREAD. Little did she know that this thread was going to become a huge success. New people popped in every day to talk about whatever. It grew to hundreds of pages, and she often had trouble keeping up with it.
People suggested to her that she create a guild. And, so she did. It was placed in the Guild Forums. Where she got around 50 members. The only problem with guilds and the thread was that many people didn't like the aspect of joining a guild. They'd have to pop in on occasion and check up on it. With the thread, they could visit in a week, and not be back for a month. And everything would be just dandy.
Then there became the new Guild System. And she was so excited about it. But, the fee to create her guild into a "real" guild was 20K. Where in the world would she come up with money for that? But, people within the guild and other generous people donated to her, for the cause. Within a week or so, she had the money, and created it. Today it has over 3000 members. It's so popular that it is on page 1 of the Guild Registry.
She then liked the idea of creating a quest. And so she did. It was to be a big quest, for a number of items. And, whenever she finished with one, she would update her quest thread for the next item. She was more than halfway done too...
Before this happened.
Around a year later from when she joined, her account got hacked. She woke up one morning, got on the computer, and tried to log onto her gaia account. And she got the message, "Invalid username and password." She tried typing it again, seeing if she might have made a typo. But she hadn't. She began to think that maybe Gaia was down for some reason. So, she tried her sisters account. And she could log in easily to hers. So, why couldn't she log into RachiePoo? What was up with that?
She emailed the moderators about the problem. She was just hoping she hadn't been reported for something and banned. Though, she couldn't remember why she would be banned. She didn't think she did anything that went against the TOS...
And then she got a good look at her account, on the outside. Logged into her sisters account she saw that her avatar was missing something. Her baby seal slippers.
You could say, that was when she began to panic.
She emailed Gaia again, only this time reported it under the "Hacking" category. She couldn't believe what was happening. It was happening all too quickly for her. And she wondered, "Well, if I WAS hacked, why didn't they take everything? The bani clips? The fairy wings? Why just the seals?"
The next day, those were gone. And things went downhill from there. She was left, sitting there and waiting for a reply from Gaia. Just, doing NOTHING as the hacker slowly took everything she had. She felt helpless, and awful. That all of her hard work, all of her long night hours on gaia, was wasted. Just like that. No more items. Just gone.
As was her guild. She was captain of the guild. And now she couldn't log into it. She couldn't maintain it--atleast the things that the crew members couldn't maintain. Letting down over 3000 users in the process. Just because of this one hacker.
RachiePoo's reign had ended, and had only lasted for one year.
She decided to start over, all again. She'd have no choice but to let her guild rot, her old threads as well--her old quest. Everything, just rot and sit there, like her abused account. She was going to have to start with a new account. With absolutely nothing. No items, no gold, no guild, no threads. Nothing, except a n00b avatar with the username Poochi-Ray.
The only thing she had right now, was her friends and boyfriend. And she wasn't asking for a whole lot. 10 gold, if they could. Because, she now realized just how valuable that 10 gold was to her. It could have gotten her just that much closer to a trading pass. Or those rainbow toe socks that she liked so much.
And I'm sharing this sad story to you, fellow gaians, because it's something I think you should all be aware of. Hacking does happen, and normally involves someone who is close to you. I, RachiePoo, never did find out who hacked into my account, but I do know that whoever did was someone who was greedy and careless--and definitely never a true friend to me. This story, hopefully, will have you all realize just how your hard work at posting and voting in polls, can easily just wipe away--go down the toilet, so to speak. I would hope that whoever has read this far has had this come to their mind.
I leave you for now. And, I know that you probably don't want to hear this--this begging. All I ask for, is if someone would be nice and generous enough to donate only 10 gold to me. I would, I'm sure, donate 10 gold if I were in your position, hearing of this story. I mean, fellow Gaians, how would you feel to have everything you own, just disappear in the blink of an eye? 10 gold isn't too much to ask for, now is it?
And, even then, I won't get upset if you don't want to. This is not a scam. My sister and boyfriend know for certain that I have indeed been hacked. They witnessed my account being slowly taken away from me. And I still have those emails, from a year ago, welcoming the username RachiePoo onto this lovely website. And even if this was a scam, why would I take the time to write up this story? Why would I even bother? I could have easily have written, "give meee 10 goldz!1!!!"
I just hope that this has made users thing differently about the issue about being hacked. Just anyone could be hacked. And just in a matter of seconds everything that you've earned and worked hard for could be taken away from you. I don't think I deserved what I got--nor do I think that any past user before me that had a similar fate. So, it's your choice. Help out a fellow user, who just wants her things back. Or, just leave here, hopefully with something to think on your mind. Because, this could easily happen to you.
