Welcome to Gaia! ::

Line Art Jam! Welcome to Line Art Jam. The concept here is fairly simple - somebody posts lineart, somebody else colors it, everybody is happy! :D This is the second Line Art Jam, created after the original suffered archiving and other various misfortunes.
Rules:

POST ONLY ARTWORK THAT IS YOUR OWN!! Do not post lineart that you "found" and just want to see colored. It's not only wrong, it's also illegal by breaking a Copyright to the artist. The artists posting their lineart here are allowing people to color them, but not to claim them as their own. By posting an artwork that is not yours, you're stealing. Avoid the hassle. Don't do it.
When replying to posts, please edit out the images in your quotes as it's REALLY annoying to scroll past 6 or 7 of the same image on one page. Cutting them out also helps decrease the bandwidth used on someone's server and lifts the weight of page loading off Gaia's Servers.
You do not need to post an image to be here, but this is not a chat thread. Do not post Spam, Chat Offers, Auctions, Quests, Advertisements, nor Bumps. This is a Sticky, it does not need bumped. And just because someone doesn't answer you in two seconds doesn't mean no one's here or everyone's ignoring you. Just be patient.
Please use decent grammar and spelling. Avoid using "Leet" as much as possible, as it annoys many many people... If we can't read your post, we can't reply to you, now can we? And is it really that hard to type "you" instead of "u"? Honestly? Also, please bear in mind that 85-90% of the people here speak English. Please do your best to speak so we understand you. Thank you.
Do not demand that your work be colored. People most likely will look you over intentionally when you do so. If you have gone at least 20 pages or so without any takers, or your post was lost in a rollback, feel free to repost the images and offer them again. Do not repost on every page nor yell at people for not coloring them. And leave out the whining. You just drive people away when you beg, plead, whine, and throw a temper tantrum.
Lots of lineart... not enough people to color... or people who just don't want to color. Coloring is time consuming, so don't be too offended if no one does your picture...

Offer criticism, but don't be rude. It's one thing to tell someone to keep working on shading or some such... but it's another to completely degrade and belittle the work they did. Especially if it was for your art. The more ungrateful and nasty you are, the less likely anyone will even look at your artwork.
There is no limit to how many you can post, as a lot of people don't mind having options to choose from. But if you have more than like 5 pictures, try to make them URLs only as that would take up a lot less space.
The "IMG" button is there for a reason. To aid in potsing pictures. But we shall do this: -Click "IMG" button. -Enter the actual URL of the image with the extension (Such as: http://graphics.go-gaia.com/images/ban_top_3.gif ) -Post. The code should look this way before you post: [img]http://graphics.go-gaia.com/images/ban_top_3.gif[/img]
(More of a suggestion than a rule...) If posting a big picture, post smaller versions or thumbnails of your images and either link them to the larger sizes or offer the larger pics by PM. Saves loading time for thread pages and once more saves lag from happening on Gaia's Servers because of images.
You may want to size that down a little, and then if someone wants to color it give them the big version. For general viewing purposes, I usually scale down my work so that the largest dimension (usually height) is 600 pixels. which is also the size it needs to be to post in the arena.

DO NOT SIGNIFICANTLY ALTER OTHER USERS' LINEART. While minor modifications can be made, it is disrespectful to the artist's intent to completely rearrange their images. There's a big difference between removing freckles, and turning a little human boy into a mature catgirl.
Line Art Jam is not a critique thread! The purpose of LAJ is to color other people's lines, or find people to color yours. It is not the place for giving or requesting feedback. If you want advice on your drawing or coloring, please create a new thread in the main Picture Post forum or the Line Art Jam Guild. And if you don't like an image somebody else has posted, please check if they have a thread; and if they don't, leave them alone. You are not obligated to color lineart you don't like, and by posting your own lines here you are giving permission for people to color it whether or not you find their skills up to your standards.
(More of a suggestion than a rule...) Try to clean up your lineart as much as possible. If someone cannot tell where one thing ends and another begins, they most likely won't color it. While you don't have to have penned/inked images, the cleaner your sketch is, the more likely someone is to color it.
(Last suggestion.) "Don't Feed The Trolls." If someone posts for the sake of starting an argument or just plain Flaming, best advice is just ignore them. Most likely, they're just overtly desperate for attention. When they don't get that, they'll eventually go away. *^^* And if you're one of those people, please go somewhere else like the Chatterbox. We don't need nor want that here.
FAQ So...what's this place for, anyway? It is a place for artists to post their lineart, and colorists to color it- for fun, for free. What am I allowed to color? Any lineart posted here! That's what this thread is for! When you color a picture, post it with credit to the lineartist, and you'll be good. I saw an awesome picture I want to sell/put in my sig/use on a website...can I? Every picture posted is copyright to its lineartist. If you want to use lineart, you would have to obtain permission from the lineartist; if you want to use a colored picture, you would have to obtain permission from both the lineartist and the colorist. I saw a picture posted that I know the poster did not draw. What can I do? Take the link to the posted image, and the link to your proof, and post them in the art theft report stick in the art discussion forum. -NOTE- Fanart is not art theft! Only if it is obvious the picture has been traced or eyeballed will you have a valid art theft case. Cosplays, gender-changes, and various other unlikely occurances are perfectly fine. How do I link my image to the thread? 1.) Save the image on your computer. PNG, JPG, or GIF are preferred, but BMPs can be posted at the last extreme. 2.) Go to http://www.photobucket.com or http://www.tinypic.com and upload your picture. 3.) Copy the link that it gives you when you upload the picture Now, here comes the complicated part. If your picture is large (would stretch the page, or take forever to load in dialup), we would prefer you merely post the link, and not change it into a picture. To do that, you would simply paste the link into the post, and it will work properly once you submit the post. If your portrait will not stretch the page or take forever to load, you can then post it as an image. To do that, you would put the following code where you want the image to be:

Once you've submitted the post, you'll be ready to go!
(this post will be relocated to the "pimping the Guild" post once the forum migration errors clear up) A guild based off the Line Art Jam sticky thread in the Picture Post subforum. When the original LAJ thread became unmanagable, a Guild was suggested in the planning stages of the new thread. With the support of the LAJ participants, a mule account was created to author the new thread and start up the Guild. The purpose of Line Art Jam is for artists to display lineart they have created, for other artists to color. The Line Art Jam guild is based off that idea and features the sort of organization and events that cannot be carried out in the thread alone. The Line Art Jam Guild can be found here, and is always open to new members!
