I've decided it's time to put some involuntary money in Kazuma's mouth, so let's discuss the state of online political discourse here on Gaia. The O'Reillys, Hannitys, Begalas, and Carvilles may dominate pigeonholing on America's airwaves, but are things even worse here on Gaia? Do we even top out the so-called "big blogs" like Little Green Footballs, Right Wing News, Democratic Underground, FreeRepublic, and the (now-defunct) JohnKerry.com forum?
Where right-wingers are concerned, it's a resounding "yes." Gaia's conservatives seem far more prone to mindless strawman-battle, pigeonholing, and hatred. From accusing Michael Moore and John Kerry of treason, to portraying liberals as "anti-American" or "hating America," there's some particularly nasty right-wing groupthink associated with ED Politics. This includes conspiracy theories about liberal Gaians, poor attempts at stalking liberal posters, and even sharing fantasies of physical violence against other ED Politics members.
Some of these fine armchair pundits will resent being quoted (with responses like "that was only supposed to be read in private," or other various distracting tactics), I'd hate to continue without genuine material. And besides, people're more genuine when they think they're alone or in private, right?
The source? I give you a "Best of Kazuma's Roughnecks" sample, all taken from discussions in Gaia's largest right-wing guild:
