What is WIN?:
WIN is short for Whip Inflation Now, an old government campaign that attempted to stop inflation in the United States but failed. However, if we DO work together, maybe we can stop the Gaian market from continuing to spiral out of control.
What is inflation, anyway?:
Inflation happens out in the real world, also. If the economy is bad, the inflation rate is usually higher.
Inflation is actually what caused the stock market crash of 1929 and the Great Depression. Even though Gaia probably won't suffer from an economic depression, the large price increases make it very intimidating for newbies and oldbies alike, especially when questing. I think many of us know what it feels like to start a quest for an item that is 15k, then watch it rise to 50k in a month or two, referring to the Nitemare and Angelic Headbands.
What is our goal?:
We want to save the Gaia Exchange from the horrific price rises, keeping them both reasonable and satisfactory to both buyers AND sellers.
Why we made this thread?:
We all understand that the prices of items, even non-event and donation ones, are inflated beyond normal reason; we want to put an end to this. We know that old donation items are expensive and rare to obtain, but the greed of Gaians is out of control as well. People are attempting to get the most gold as possible out of items, driving the prices up and up, until they begin to rise uncontrollably. We are perfectly aware of the concepts of supply and demand, the quantities of donation items being limited, and many people in line waiting to buy them.
For Example, take the ever-lusted-after Fuzzy Penguin Slippers:
They were 20k in December. Suppose they rose at a steady rate of 5k per month, meaning they would be 25k in January, 30k in February, 35k in March, and 40k in April. Then, why are they 50k right now? Who do we have to blame? The questers, or the sellers?
Partially both. Because the quester wants the item, and the seller knows they will pay a higher price to get it. As one gaian put it: "Both--as supply become scarce and more people want the item, the sellers demand a raise of the price. But the ever-quick leap of 20K in nearly two months is ridiculous. It makes it harder for those who are almost done with their quest--they now have to obtain 20 more K."
Now, let's put this in the seller's point of view. Let's say a Gaian, S3RT74 (This is not meant to be an actual Gaian's name; if it is, we will change it.), wants to sell their Demonic Pitchfork for their Angelic Pendant quest. They go to the marketplace and see people selling the pitchfork for 14 - 30k. Now, Gaian S3RT74 is a reasonable person and decides that they will sell it for 15k, even though the 30k is tempting, because they will be closer to finishing their quest faster.
What are we going to do?:
Buy and sell items only at store prices or lower; buy and sell donation items for their actual value; buy and sell trunks, gift boxes, uncommons, rares, and fish for their actual values; and donate to people who we see selling items for their actual values.
Why can it ONLY work with YOUR HELP?:
If only a few Gaians lowered their selling prices and did such, they would be left penniless, but if we got over a hundred, maybe even a THOUSAND Gaians to support our cause, we would maybe begin to get the economy back under control.
What can YOU DO to help?:
Boycott--don't buy anything in the marketplace unless you've researched it and see it's the lowest it's sold at. If the lowest it's sold at is still above the store price, go buy it there. Never buy a sealed for more than 5k.
Reason with yourself--If you're buying, ask yourself a few questions. Do you want the item you are buying? Is it overpriced? Will I wear it? If I were selling it, would it be this price? If you're selling: Is the item I'm selling worth how much I'm selling it for? Would I pay this much for this item if I were buying it?
Spread the word!--Put a banner, or if there's not enough room, a link, in your signature. Link us in a thread of yours, or just direct others here!

- Of course, this WILL cost us a lot of gold, but we're attempting to make this place better and more fun for newbies and oldbies alike. So, this WILL take us a lot of work, and we will need your support.We are NOT a charity, OR a petition. Of course, we are going to keep track of our supporters but not count them constantly and try to make a statement to the moderators and administrators by doing so. We're trying to make a statement to the rest of Gaia, saying we don't want to deal with this anymore! We do understand steady price increases, but I don't think I want to pay 20k for a pink box or see the Headbands hit 100k anytime soon.Some people will be greedy no matter what, we understand that also.Just because we can't stop inflation doesn't mean we can't object to it!
