Welcome to Gaia! ::

I just finished it, and I loved it. I thought it was beautiful. Do you think there was a significance to why Curly's wife was never named? And what did you think of the ending? I thought it was a great ending, albeit very sad.
i think curly's wife was never named because it showed her to be very insignifigant in his life. he really only married her so he could get sex whenever he wanted. also, she's not really bright, if you remember the part about the man who said he'd get her into the pictures. he never would, but she didn't realize that and thought someone was stealing her mail out of jealousy.

i liked the ending because it fitted the book so well. the men are simple men, yet the 3 main ones, george lennie and slim, all had strong emotions, and the ending was very emotional. i really liked the book
I read that in 9th grade. Our school had to read a lot of depressing books. (lord of the flies, romeo and juliet, to kill a mocking bird...)

That's pretty much why I thought she was unnamed, also, she was the only woman present in the book. It might show that the bonds between men are stronger than that between man and woman.

Same with me o_o; We were made to read all of those as well.

Of Mice and Men is a great book. I especially like the ending heart

I disliked the book, greatly because of its veiw on the world, its not that I dont support naturalism, but there was so many things that were not nessesary to happen, including the death of Lennie

it's view of the world? That was how the world was like in those days, in California.. And in my opinion, Lennie's deat WAS necessary.. Sad, I know, but it had to happen in the book. Their dream would never come to life, as you could see in the beginning of the book. (Shadow over the paradise).
Sorry if I sound like I'm arguing, but I've just written a HUGE essay-thing about it, and..yeah..lol
I was reading it for G.C.S.Es, and as most should know, this can destroy a book because analising everything makes me hate it. Luckily, the teacher let us take it home for homework and I read it all at home. I loved it, and I can see the book for it's true self and not as an exam. So, I did like it, yes. Even if everyone else in my class hates it.

Lennie's death was upsetting, poor thing! Also, I'd much rather Curley got more done to him than a simple hand crushing. I hated that guy, the little napoleon-like fool.

I agree that Lennie's death was necessary, the book wouldn't have made the same impact without that. Has anyone seen either version of the movie, and are they any good?

I read Of Mice and men, Romeo & Juliet and To Kill A Mockingbird in the 9th grade as well. Those books rocked! But there is one more that I simply loved, it's name is The Chrysalids. When you get a chance check it out. I really loved it because I could understand what the main character felt although it was a HUGE metaphor!

I could discuss those books forever and ever! I really want to read the Lord of the Flies though. I heard it was really good but I've never gotten a copy!

I really like Steinbeck too. Have you read Grapes of Wrath as well?
