Welcome to Gaia! ::

I have no respect for people who ask for free art. I have even less respect for artists who don't give themselves enough credit and give them their free art. You wouldn't walk up to a plumber and say "Hey, my toilet is backed up, will you fix it for me? Oh, right, but I don't want to pay you." You wouldn't go to the bakery and ask "Can I just walk out of the store with this cake?" Same deal with artists. They're offering their services, and they deserve to be compensated. Even if it's little fake Gaia money. It's sickening to see people asking for good artwork, but completely unwilling to pay for it. Then they have the nerve to complain about the quality! Well, no s**t Sherlock, you get what you paid for. And, lo and behold, you didn't pay for it! So all you get is less-than-half-assed drawing. You lose, good day sir. If an artist is giving away free artwork because they're very generous or they have an inferiority complex, then go ahead and take advantage of them. But stop trying to rip off the artists who do quality work that deserves every penny. EDIT: If there was a slight misunderstanding, I never said I don't like people who give free art, I just don't like people who give into the damands. Also, I was talking more about the real world, although Gaia can get pretty bad too. Just to clear that up. Don't want people thinking I hate them because they do free art sometimes.

i think you could be missing some of the joy of art if you just worry about gold...

I would not consider it "taking advantage" of an artist if they are giving away free art under their own free will...

It has nothing to do with an inferiority complex. Perhaps they do not feel right about gaining from something they love doing? Perhaps they just want to draw for the joy of it.

I think you are being a bit judgmental and angry.

I hate people who want something for nothing. Someone said my 7k art was too damn expensive. For Christ's sake, I can make at least 1k sitting on my lazy butt and chatting everyday... it's not that much really...

I've never had anyone yell at me about my art quality to my face though... maybe I'm lucky...
sometimes I just need practice, I'm not going to charge people for something like that. Sometimes the pieces come out really well and sometimes they're just alright. But I haven't really sold any of my art, I've gotten tips but never asked people for gold for my art. I'm thinking of starting a shop but I feel I need more practice before I do that. You be the judge. (my DA is in my sig)
I've done quite a few freebies, and they usually end up better than my normal commissions because I have to be a lot more interested in the subject to agree to do them in the first place.

What really pisses me off is that when I used to have a shop, people would come in and order with no intention of paying me. I'd show them (watermarked) stages of the drawing as I did it, and then when I'd finally get done with it and post the final image, they'd get all pissed because they didn't expect it to be watermarked to all Hell... so they choose right THEN to complain that the image isn't what they asked for, and that I'm overpricing something that they read and agreed to when they ordered, not even going into the fact that they saw ALL the stages of the works in progress and said that it was FINE while I was able to change it.

It's like, "No, sorry, I'm not stupid. You've got absolutely NO grounds to say that you don't like it now. So, are you going to pay, or do I have to report you?"

I dislike it when people want me to spend what little spare time I have (I work full time) to make art for them, but they won't pay for it, or think that even 25k is too much.

I spend my time on you, you spend money on me.
i can only draw cloud good :gonk:

you can report people for that s**t? O.o?
Ishrie: Use the REPORT SCAM Option... You know you want it! XDDDD

Asking for free art in a shop is just like begging for gold... Same s**t: must kill!

But if you want to do free art for practice, it's fine.

I had to run after someone's a** to get my gold back... And it was only 7K! WTF is wrong with these people????

You certainley can. They have scammed you out of art, so they can get in trouble for it.

They're probably doing it for fun and/or they're a kind-hearted soul. God bless them, I wouldn't be able to handle that. But if you're taking commissions because you need some extra gold/money/whatever, it's very disappointing to have someone ask for a free picture. And if you give it to them, it isn't fair to your paying customers. And yes, I'm angry. Artists get ripped off all the time. I, quite frankly, am tired of it. Drawing is a trade, just like woodworking, metallurgy and the like. It takes time, materials and effort. If someone is asking for monetary payment for an image they poured their soul into, then by God give it to them.

I reported them, don't worry. It's just... frustrating, you know? 'Cause it's not like I've got gobs of free time that I can use to draw some schmoe and his girlfriend. That's not even an image I could use for something else.

You know, even outside of Gaia it's annoying.

To Zenia I say, "HELL YES." >: O

"Missing the joy of art"? Frankly that's bull. I work freelance-- this means that every waking moment of my day not spent at school/eating/cleaning my house/in the bath/working out/the million other things I have to do is time I could be making a living. I value my free time immensely, and to stay sane I have to make sure I enjoy it, because it's not like I get a do-over. When some d**k tries to peg me as selfish (or worse... I've been called worse) because I won't draw for someone FOR FREE I can only wonder if he/she still lives with Mommy or just has nothing to do with their time.

More than that, though, to be inconsiderate of someone's time, even if they HAVE nothing to do (because they're still not obligated to give it to some stranger), or inconsiderate of the effort someone as put into their art skill just shows to me that maybe the person asking for the work doesn't understand the effort that goes into it (or the practice leading up to it).

I always wonder if the people that call ME selfish for not spending MY time on THEM for NOTHING in return... truely see the irony of that.
It's pretty funny to think that us artists are drawing for fake money and pixels on Internet. What's the point in that???

We're so bored... XD
