Probably been asked a million times before but it's a simple question, so which do you prefer?
One is cheaper and easier to carry around, one is a bit more pricey but looks nice and lasts longer.

For me it depends, if I'm going to be toting it around everything then paperback of course, but for the books I like and have time to actually sit down and read I prefer hardback, which also last longer(I have one from 1911, so they certainly stand time well enough) and look better on the shelf.

I usually find that with a good book, it's worth the extra money for something you know will last you.

Depends on the book, and how I feel about it, actually. There are authors -- fiction and non-fiction -- I always want in hardcover. Others, like Ann Rule, I don't mind getting in paperback.
I usually go for paperbacks. They are, indeed, cheaper, and I usually end up reading on lunch breaks and on the bus. I'm not one to usually just sit and read for a few hours at home, since doing so usually means avoiding doing something else ^-^; I sort of like that nice worn look they can get after the ninth reading x3

Depends. If the hardcover isn't too expensive, I'll get it. If it is, I'll wait 'till it's out in softcover.
I love hardback. I get everything I can in hardback but as you say it is expensive.
Paper back I like that they are cheaper besides I take good care of my books so the paper back books I have look all most knew
I usually go for paperback. It's cheaper and there's no dustsleeve for me to ruin or lose. Also, I tend to break the bindings on books so they have friendly little creases and I dog-ear pages... I feel afraid to ruin the pages in a hard-cover book. If I can't wait for paperback or I get a book as a gift, it could be in hard-cover. My Ultimate Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy book I couldn't imagine in paperback, however, it's a book that just seems to need to be in hard-cover and be imposing and wonderful.
I prefer hardcover, but only if it's about the size of a regular paperback...i don't like the big huge hardcovers, cuz then i'll just buy the paperback. blaugh
For me it's usually paperback. I'm always reading at work, at school, and on the go so I can't keep carrying around hardcovers. Plus when I have insurance and school to pay for I can't really indulge on hardcovers anyways.
Paperback. I like to read while I eat, and the hardbacks are hard to hold with one hand. sweatdrop
I like paperbacks better because I can carry them around, and they take up less space on my bookshelves.
I like hardback covers because they are generally nicer looking.
But I always get paperbacks because it's usually all I can afford.
Hardback, it makes me feel special.

If I get something paperback it is only because I'm poor, but when I get actual currency then I'll go back to the bookstore and buy the book in hardback.
It depends on the author but also the time i'm getting the book. Dean Koontz for instance, I bought The Bad Place while i was camping this week, its been smushed its gotten wet and my aunt sat on it by accident. I got a collection of hardback Dean Koontz that I display. Though I'm still working on the collection. Some books are going to get torn up, and if you know thats gonna happen get a paper back, if you know you will take care of it and stuff like that go ahead with the hardcover. Also if you know your gonna read it ONLY once and its a short book, don't waste your money.
