This is my generic post that I used for all the global warming debates I was in. Here it is for all to see.

This was created approximate 3 months before IPCC basically stated said it was statistically significant that the current global warming is not due to natural trends, but of human intervention.

Global warming at this particular point in history is not naturual. There are reasons why temperatures are well above the norm comparing it to the data of the last several millions of years.

we are a society largely dependent on hydrocarbons for everything. Food, clothing, transportation, heating, everything! We are in a unique period in history where we have a abundance of energy. This is because have learned to tap into carbon reserves for power.

By releasing this fixed carbon, we increase CO2 levels which is strongly correlated to temperature.

Natural mechanisms that fix carbon are not even remotely close to the rate we use it up.

We have the technologies to increase the efficiencies in producing energy and reducing carbon release. However it costs effort and money. Thats the clincher.

Ironically, the cost to society in loss of natural wealth and the jobs that could be generated from it far out weighs the few bucks industries save.

On Feb 2, 2007 the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change has announced in Paris, France:

1.Global warming is occurring
2.The probability that this is caused by natural climatic processes is less than 5%
3.The probability that this is caused by human emissions of greenhouse gases is over 90%


Case Closed.

I haven't seen it yet, from what I heard, its was created to exmobile to discredit global warming.

Ha. I know it's fun to blame all the world's ills on the Chimp, but Global Warming was an issue LONG before he was in office. Please don't try to pretend that this is a brand new idea. It's not. Look at the numbers.

I see nothing in your post which actually proves a link between temperature and greenhouse gas emissions.

Note also in your penultimate chart (Past 140 years) that the temperature decreased during our greatest period of industrial expansion.

As much as I want to say it is, it really isn't proof to tell us that there is a hole out there. I do believe it is very possible there is, and I do believe that there is, but I cannot agree that it's a fact that there is. There is still no real proof that proves the existence of global warming.

What do you mean???

The fact that the correlation of Co2 and tempertature isn't enough proof for you? And the fact that are average temp. has been rising since the invention of the car?

There is a correlation.

I guess there is room for improvement.

I'm sure some chem info about the properties of CO2 and CH4 will clear it up.

What do you mean???

Correlation =/= Cause.


Where are all the graphs that map out temperature changes over hundreds of thousands of years?

The planet has been warming and cooling regularly since it was formed, and there's no doubt that we're due one now anyway, regardless of human pollution.
CO2 doesn't necessarily cause increased temperature, that's not proven.
A warmer temperature can cause more forest fires and that can cause more CO2, so there's a explanation for the opposite too.

Strange as it may seem, CO2 does not cause temperature rise. Temperature rise causes CO2.
