Here is my thesis on Black History month:
Now, our country seems to be the type of place where we must have an "everything's peachy" policy. Meaning, that everything must be politically correct, of course. So, we grant the black community a month in 'honor' of their history.
Now, as you may be inclined to think, I assure you, I am not a racist person.
The reason I disagree with black history month is because instead of trying to bring the black population up to a standard in society, I feel that this particular month is only suggesting more racism.
Why? Basically it's suggesting that 'Black people must have a month in order to fit in'. No, I think that just because they are a miniority (and barely even one any more), giving them a month is only promoting the pointing out and spotlighting of other races.
We don't have an Asian history month, or a Norwegian history month, now do we?
Plus, I also find the term 'African-American' to be quite offense.
My ancestry is european, but you don't call me 'European-American'. No, I am just American. And what about Jamacians, and other black people? They are not all from Africa. Plus, how many of these 'African-Americans' where actually born in Africa? Close to none. Their ancestors might have been, but not them. THEY ARE AMERICAN, NOT AFRICAN-AMERICAN. Plus, white people aren't often offended when you call them white.
Discuss:
Black history month and why we need it
The Term "African-American"
Other absurd political correctness issues
Racial barriers
P.S. I want everyone's input, black's, white's, etc.
