The Story of Elemental Spirits
The village of Astora has always been settled on the border of the Falsin Forest. The forest has been forbidden to humans by its resident creatures, especially the Elemental Spirit fae there, who represent the elements fire, water, wood, metal, and earth. However, in recent years, natural hardships have caused a great decline in the faerie population, and restrictions on the forest could not be enforced. Many curious villagers from Astora began venturing in, admiring the curiosities of a world they were unable to see before. However, some explorers discovered the tragedy of the mysterious Elemental Spirit race: abandoned children.

Fae children are born from seedlings produced by the earth. However, those children who possess characters undesirable in fae are abandoned by their guardians, left to die without nurture in the depths of Falsin. Compassionate humans began collecting these seedlings and returning to Astora with them. The Elemental Spirits, although imperfect in their society, present special characteristics admired by humans, and a recent demand for such children has resulted in a market for these mysterious seedlings. . .

After having read the story, perhaps you are more interested in how exactly you play a role in these events. As a citizen of Astora, you have the ability to adopt an Elemental Spirit. You role-play the part of a master, and must raise the child with care. The young fae will begin to grow, developing certain traits according to Special Events, Grading Cards, and your interactions in the role-playing game. When your fae reaches full adulthood, it can breed children with other fae and even obtain a job!

The Elements
What are the elements?
Each Elemental Spirit is endowed with a specific element that will determine his future talents, personality, and growth. Such elements are actually taken from Chinese tradition, which was used in the past to judge a person's character.

scream Fire Element
Personality Characteristics: Passionate, easily angered, energetic, aggressive
Natural Job Affinities: Artist, actor, fighter

sweatdrop Water Element
Personality Characteristics: Restless, intelligent, indecisive, frank
Natural Job Affinities: Astrologer, writer, traveller

stare Wood Element
Personality Characteristics: Organized, jealous, practical, impatient
Natural Job Affinities: Merchant, secretary, doctor

xd Metal Element
Personality Characteristics: Disciplined, cautious, authoritative, unmerciful
Natural Job Affinities: Leader, teacher, judge

mad Earth Element
Personality Characteristics: Responsible, stationary, trustworthy, insincere
Natural Job Affinities: Unknown ?

The Process of Life
What is the lifespan of an Elemental Spirit?
There are basically 6 different stages your fae child will develop through: seedling (the fetus stage), young child, child, adolescence, adult, and adult with a career (according to their job affinity at this point).

User Image

User Image

These are simple rules to help you become acquainted with some mechanics of the game as well as what you will be allowed to do after receiving your fae.

- Be aware that there are certain aspects of the Elemental Spirit you control and certain aspects that the creator controls:

Physical Appearance (Identity Card Image)
Creator (Me): Bodily appearance, such as hair/eye/skin color
Master (You): Bodily appearance (skinny/fat depending on food), clothing, facial appearance (according to personality type)

Personality:
Creator (Me): Natural temperament; genetics (if your fae attempts to breed later)
Master (You): Development; future personality and job affinity

Elemental Spirit:
Creator (Me): Special Events (read below); grading card (read below)
Master (You): Daily events

idea DO NOT ask for masters to sell their Elemental Spirit; additionally, DO NOT ask me to give you special advantages in obtaining a fae. Fae will be available for adoption occasionally; please wait patiently for these moments.

idea DO NOT ask me to private message you when a fae becomes available for adoption. As said before, I refuse to give people an advantage in obtaining one. If you desire one, check this shop regularly and wait patiently.

idea There is a limit of one Elemental Spirit per Gaia user. There will be limited amounts because I will have to draw specific pictures for each one. This is not merely drawing lineart and coloring ten different colors. I draw each Elementa Spirit according to the changes in their lives.

idea The ONLY way that an Elemental Spirit will be given out is through RP contest, raffle, or auction. Please read below for further information on how you can participate in these.

idea You will be required to role-play in this game, and the better at RPing you are, the more you can encourage your fae's growth. Read the "Game Play" section to find out what will happen if you refuse to role-play or abandon your fae for long periods of time. More specific guidelines for role-playing will be included in a different message thread.

idea When you role-play, you are allowed to role-play both yourself (as a master) and the Elemental Spirit (for daily events). However, you must role-play the fae according to their natural temperament and the "grading card" you receive. This presents a special challenge, because you could be a rather good-nature person and receive an evil child. You are not allowed to automatically convert your child to the side of good during role-playing. Treat them certain ways, and you will receive a grading card to guide how you should continue to role-play the fae. I WILL NOT be happy with people who alter the fae's personality in role-play to suit their own wishes. For example: A Fire child with a confident, short-tempered personality should react violently when being picked on by other children. This child would not run home, cry, and ask you to hold him after such treatment.

idea At times, I will "take control" of your Elemental Spirit through special events. These are not very dramatic moments (they only last 1-2 sentences long), and are made to act as a guide (like the grading card) to your fae's character. They are also graded more critically than regular daily interactions that you write about you and your fae. Thus, it is important for you to consider what course of action best to take when reacting to a special event. Please read below for more information on these events.

idea You must place your Elemental Spirit identification card in your signature. This is a MUST. More specific instructions may be sent to you if you receive a child.

idea Please do not complain about the status of your fae after you have paid and received it. If you have read ALL of the information contained in this shop, you will know that there are some unexpected aspects with the fae. It is your job as the RPer to adapt to these characteristics to the best of your ability and learn to raise your fae with love, regardless of their nature.

idea Bumps are welcome.

Identification Card: Below is an example of what the Elemental Spirit identification card looks like. If you receive a child, it is REQUIRED that you place this image in the signature of your Gaia account.

User Image

Special Events: Every once in a while, perhaps once or twice a week, you will receive a Special Event. This event will be sent from me, and will follow the format of the example below. The event will actually involve a special request or action on behalf of your fae child, according to their personality. For example, a greedy, spoiled child may have events asking you to go buy toys for them, while a generous child may have events in which they give you gifts of their own. Whether you accept the gift, reject the demand for more toys, or etc. will have significant effects on their personality growth.

SPECIAL EVENT!

eek HEY! Look, it's Mo! I wonder what she's doing...Oh, she brought you a present? What could it be...Huh? sweatdrop It looks like some sticks tied together with a ribbon. What are you supposed to do with this?

User Image

Grading Cards: It will be difficult to role-play your child, as the fae will be constantly changing and adjusting. To guide this process and to allow you to see how you are doing as a master, Grading Cards will be handed out once a week, sort of like a report card. The card will have specific ratings by personality and job affinity. However, if you interact with your fae very little, do not respond to the special events, or your fae is still in early development periods, it will not have very many items on this Grading Card.

User Image

There are numerous ways to interact with each child. Isolating your fae from other children (for example, by making him study books in your home rather than allowing him to play outside) will negatively affect his social development, but may enhance his mental development. Punishment may alter children in different ways, especially according to their natural temperament (for example, an Earth child already prone to wickedness will learn to become crueler, while a Water child may improve his performance to gain your approval).

Each interaction will either add or deduct points from certain characteristics in their personality (Violent or Peaceful, Stingy or Generous, Confident or Uncertain, etc.) and job affinity (Military, Maid, Doctor, etc.). Every one a while, your fae child will bring home a "Grading Card" which will give the appropriate markings so that you are aware of how your child is developing.

Temperament - Perhaps one of the largest influences that will affect your fae's development is the temperament that he was born with. In the earlier years of life, a fae will especially decide matters and react by his temperament. A Fire child who is scolded too often may be destined to be very volatile and hot-headed as an adult, because of his existing affinity towards these traits. However, a Fire child who is not scolded enough may become overconfident and careless as an adult, unable to realize his own faults.

Altering Temperament - Yikes! You got an Earth child. Why, you don't want some kid who's going to end up as a minion of the dark gods! Unfortunately, there is no way to alter the temperament of a child you receive; this is after all, the nature he was born with. However, the manner in which you raise him can affect his personality, overriding some of these natural tendencies. Want an extremely evil child who will conquer and enslave foreign lands in the future? An Earth child with naturally wicked tendencies will become the epitome of evil if raised correctly. However, teaching your Earth child compassion, heavenly religion, and kindness could result in an adult who is pleasant and only slightly cynical.

Abnormalities - How will you react if your young child possesses an unusual trait, such as blindness or missing wings? These fae have been abandoned for one reason or another, but primarily due to imperfections that would not be accepted in the fae society. Will you become frustrated and scold your child for causing you more trouble than he's worth, or will you attempt to sympathize with his struggle?

Fae Versus Human - You're human, he's fae. Of course, there's going to be some complications in attempting to explain the relationship to your child ("Where did I come from, Mom?", "Why don't I look like the other children?", etc.). The way you attempt to handle your fae's heritage will also influence his development. A fae who has been converted completely to the ways of humans may fail to connect to his natural environment but will be able to use his fae powers to aid mankind. By contrast, a fae who is fully aware that he was stolen out of his world and stuck in the realm of humans may become bitter, and possibly disappear for periods of time to wander in the woods and search for his original race.

Age Growth - If you want your fae to grow into adulthood, you MUST interact with him. (This is a roleplaying game, after all). Simply letting the kid sit there and waiting for him to develop will not work. Even in its early emryonic stages, talking and caring for the fae may prompt it to "hatch" from its flower. Because the age growth is partially dependent on its naturally tendency and partially dependent on your interaction, your fae could grow to the adolescent state while the fae of others in the same generation are still stuck as kids for a while.

Job - Future careers are not determined by job affinity alone. Their area of expertise will be determined by this affinity, but the specific job may be dependent on the personality. For example, a high mental development with a love for reading history (personality) and occasional violent reactions to school fights (job affinity) will result in this sort of equation: Intelligence + Violence = Future Job = Military Tactician.

Items - Everyone wants to buy items/toys for their young kids, right? Well, maybe not. It depends on how you want your child to develop. A Metal child with an affinity for valuables may demand more items than others, and whether he receives those items or not will affect his growth. The type of items you give are also important (for example, giving your kid a twig to play with is entirely different than purchasing a set of jewels). If your Metal child asks for a wooden sword and you give him a pencil instead, how will he develop? Items are important in developing personality, job affinity, and physical appearance as well (maybe a child flooded with items has potential as a Merchant in the future). What will happen if you feed your fae too many sweets when he asks for them (uh-oh, perhaps he'll become a little pudgy!)?

Selling/Abandoning the Child - Feel like leaving Gaia? Are you a poor Gaian who really needs some cash? Feel up to selling your poor kid to someone else? This is HIGHLY unadvisable, but...this is your child, and your decision. A child who is abandoned could potentially die (If you leave for a vacation and have no access to the Internet, please send your child to live with a friend for a week or arrange another situation. Otherwise, by the time you return, your kid may have run away or been killed while attempting to fend for himself. In some cases, "child services," a.k.a. me, will come to rescue the child and put him up for adoption.). Of course, you may feel like selling a child...DO NOT do this if someone is begging and pleading you to do this, even a friend. The child will become confused, hostile, and potentially run away if put under the care of a stranger...especially after being SOLD (how would you feel if the person who has promised to love you has sold you away like some commodity?). Doing so will detrimentally affect his personality and development.

User Image

Although I could be greedy and simply auction off all of the fae, I find that this is not fair. Many Gaians who may be excellent RPers but are completely broke will not have the ability to obtain a fae, unless they are on Gaia for a very long amount of time. I have struggled with this myself, and have been disappointed that I simply did not have the cash to purchase a pet from someone else. However, I still expect to make some Gaia gold off of this, as I am investing long hours in creating this game (drawing/scanning/coloring pictures of the fae, creating events, calculating personality/job points).

PLEASE READ ALL OF THE RULES THOROUGHLY BELOW BEFORE ASKING QUESTIONS, BIDDING, ETC.

General Rules
General Rules

exclaim Again, PLEASE read every single last word in this introduction thread I wrote before asking questions and such.

exclaim In the case that you win both an auction and raffle, be aware that the rules stated above say that you are not allowed to own two children (aside from if your original fae bears a child). You will be given the choice of which of the two seedlings you will wish to adopt. The amount of money you paid for raffle tickets for that drawing will be refunded to you (NOT the amount of money you paid for the auction, regardless of which child you choose) and the child you do not choose will be put up for raffle again. Half the second raffle profits will then go to you.

Rules of the Raffle
Raffle

If you wish to enter the raffle, it will cost 300 gold per ticket. DO NOT post a message in this thread saying, "Can I please have a raffle ticket?" Instead, send a trade with the 300 gold, and write in the subject line, "Fae Raffle." PLEASE follow this format. I have other art commissions coming in, and writing something else in the Subject may cause confusion and my rejecting the gold in fear that I may be stealing money from someone, when I have no idea what's going on. After I receive your gold, I will send you a PM with your raffle ID number. I will make a corresponding list of raffle people and their numbers. When I do the drawing, I will draw little slips of paper with the number, not your name. This way, you know I am not cheating and drawing slips of paper until I conveniently get the name of someone I like. I will post the number in this shop, and if you have the matching number, private message me at that time. I will check the list to make sure your number corresponds with your name. DO NOT TRY TO CLAIM THE FAE IF YOU DO NOT HAVE THE RIGHT NUMBER. I can clearly see by the list whether you are lying or not.

There will be set number of 75 tickets sold per raffle. However, you can only purchase up to 5 tickets (1500 gold total). If you purchase 5 tickets per drawing, you will have a roughly 6.7% chance of winning the raffle.

Rules of the Auction
Auction

Because there is a raffle for those Gaians who are not so wealthy, there will be no cap on the auction. Yes, that means bid as much as you want to win. However, please follow these basic guidelines for the auctions:

exclaim I know I have set a time for the auction to begin, put please do not begin bidding until I have posted that the auction has begun. Also, I will anounce on the message thread when an auction has ended.

exclaim Each auction will start at 2000 gold, and the bid increment will be 500 gold.

exclaim Each auction will last 24 hours. During the last 30 minutes of the auction, no new bidders will be allowed to enter. Only those who have previously bid may continue to compete.

exclaim Do not hassle the other bidders, or hassle those who win auctions. If you act rude, immature, or rashly against winners or those who outbid you, you will have the potential of being added to the Blacklist for a while.

exclaim If you are offering items as part of your bid, they will be counted as the lowest price on the GEN. (For example, if you are offering an item that is listed as 1000-2500 gold on the GEN, you have to count it as a 1000 gold item.)

exclaim Only bid if you can pay, and pay promptly after you have won the auction.

exclaim During an auction, THE BEST BUMPER will be awarded a prize on my behalf. So try your best!

exclaim TO FURTHER PREVENT AGAINST SNIPING: During the last few minutes or seconds of an auction, you may bid. However, after you bid, there will be a seven minute time limit that will extend the auction and allow others to continue to bid. (For example, the auction is set to end at 7:00 p.m. You bid at 6:58 p.m. The auction is now extended and will end at 7:05 p.m.) This way, people can not bid at the last possible second and beat out other bidders just by being sneaky. The auction will continue until extended times are over. (For example, the ending time is now set to end at 7:05 p.m., but someone bids at 7:03. This means the auction end time is now 7:10. It will continue in this manner until there is a winner.)

exclaim READ ALL OF THE RULES, NOT JUST AUCTION RULES. Read the gameplay rules so you know what you're getting into. If you are unhappy with your purchase, tough luck, because I've done everything in my power (given examples, pictures, etc.), to show you the quality of my work and what is intended in the game.

Rules of the Roleplay Contest
Roleplay Contest

This new method of giving out seedlings was discussed by myself as well as some of the frequent posters on this forum. Because there were certain unfair aspects of the raffle and auction, we felt it would be best to include a third alternative in finding a seedling that guarantees a talented roleplayer in the game, to some degree. Below are some basic rules for how the contest will operate:

exclaim The contest will be announced to open on a certain day. If you are selected as an entrant to the contest, you will receive certain instructions from me on how you will RP on this day. If you fail to follow these instructions, or any of the instructions posted here, YOU WILL AUTOMATICALLY BE DISQUALIFIED. A trait of a good RPer is one who is willing to read and play by the rules.

exclaim There will only be 10 entrants per contest. To enter the contest, please send me your name, profession in the village, and how you will contribute to the village/game. There is also an entrance fee of 2000 gold. If I approve of your application, I will ask for a trade for this fee. ONLY send an application if there is a current competition posted up.

Want more advice on how to be selected as a participant? I will likely choose those individuals who have posted frequently and helpfully on this forum or the RP forum. I trust that these people are more committed to the game because of their willingness to participate despite not having a seedling.

exclaim You must pay the entrance fee for each contest you enter. You will not be guaranteed an entrant position in each contest.

exclaim You have one week to RP with the seedling. I will give you Special Events and such and watch your reactions. At the end of the week, I will take votes from current parents as to who they think performed the best. I will take these votes into consideration, but ultimately, it is MY decision who gets the seedling. You will respect my decision and bow out politely if you lose.

exclaim If you win the competition, you will have to pay an additional 10000 gold for the seedling. Why is this? Some people have shelled out 330k so far for a seedling, and I feel that it's not fair to be handing them out for almost nothing. If you can not afford this price, know that I am willing to take items, and I may even make exceptions of installment payments for special cases.

exclaim Below are listed some basic criteria for judging who may win the competition:

- How do you interact with the seedling? This is not to say that the person who shows the most love or affection will win. Rather, it is who I think will attempt to develop the child in a way that will make the game interesting; or by contrast, the person who may change from their seedling as well. It helps to play the part as creatively as possible.

- What are your future plans and ambitions for the child? Do you have any? Are you just looking for another signature decoration? This shows me that you truly are interested in investing future time and effort into this game.

- How do you interact with the other villagers? Do you ignore them and pay attention only to the seedling? I think it's important, as we are all RPing a community, that each person attempts to interact with everyone else, not just their child.

- How conscientious are you about your spelling, grammar, etc.? Is it a difficult effort to try to figure what you're saying?

- Etc. (Probably more to come in the future)

This has yet to be decided. The fae receive careers in the future according to how you have raised them...However...I am a starving artist as it is. sweatdrop I think there will be a "point" system implemented that will operate like money once they receive their job, so that they can buy extra accessories or items.
Looks fun. ^_^
Bump for myself! sweatdrop
Guess I'll bump myself again... crying
