Welcome to Ghosts of the Past's 2nd writing contest. This one is a little bit different, you see. We're offering the -only- set of twins that will ever be available. Ever.

Now, why and HOW do we have twins? Well, the reason is very complex. But the simplified version? They're VERY Metaplot heavy children. What is their purpose? Well, you will find that out as you read on. This post is simply to introduce you to the contest.

So...Why, when we said there wouldn't be any more available until x amount of babies were grown? Dorian (BIG metaplot deal) arrived earlier than expected - making a need for the twin's appearance.

There will be TWO Rounds in this contest.

Ghosts of the past are people, normally of magical quality, who have died a horrible, painful, or wrongful death. Because of this, and the spell Matilda had cast so long ago, their soul was trapped in a wand, which related to them and their powers. As a result, they were trapped halfway between life and halfway between death until their wand was unearthed and brought to life.

The actual "Pets" (Which are really highly RP'd characters) go through up to 11 stages of life - Wand, Wisp, Baby Ghost, Baby, Toddler, Kid, Teenager, Youth, Adult, Sorceress/Sorcerer, Ancient

The actual shop is run by Kyrianna and arted by her and her other hard working artists. In fact, most of Kyri's time is spent working to better the shop and write the metaplot (Which according to most of the lurkers is getting very interesting XD)

Contest Rules


All Entries Must Be PM'd To Ianna Umbridge with the twin's names in the subject. DO NOT Post them here. As for entry fees - please send them to Ianna BEFORE PMing the entry. Any entries found by the end of the contest date that have not paid will be disqualified

  • Don't beg for a GoTP Child..

  • If you don't win, there's always another chance later on. Don't whine about it. It'll make me not want to give you one, ever.

  • Please do your best to be polite.

  • If you're already a guardian, you cannot enter

  • No Stealy Art

  • You may not edit your entries once they are submitted.

  • You may only submit one entry

  • Do NOT Discourage others to enter.

  • Do NOT Enter if you do not think you can meet the requirements of RP...


    Writing Rules

  • Keep in character and please try not to change tenses...it gets annoying

  • Your response must be written in a story format.

  • You MUST write your own entry. Having someone proofread and point out mistakes is fine, but DO NOT have someone else writing for you. IF you do, you will be blacklisted.

  • Please include ALL required information.


    If you do not follow these rules, you will be disqualified from the contest.



Kyrianna's Writing Tips:

I can't critique your contest entry to let you know what it needs and what I want from it, but I -can- give you hints on what I'm looking for.



  • Do not change tenses in your writing. Going from Present to Past and visa versa just annoys me.

  • Go into as much detail as you feel you need to. Don't let the minimum requirements bog you down. Just don't write a novel on it, please?

  • Try to be as true to Ianna's character description as possible, if you do in fact, use her in your prompt.

  • Make your wand's character concept UNIQUE.

Possible Teenage Picture for Twins <3

The way the twins were born was quite different than any of the other Ghosts of the Pasts. Even Coailiann - who fought Matilda's spell to be born first as an infant from her wand rather than emerging as a spirit wisp.

One single shard of soul was ripped from Matilda instead of two - and that single shard malfunctioned and split into two. Unfortunately, it split in such a way that one got the "Darker" traits and the other received the "Lighter" traits.

Not to say that one is completely evil and one is completely a saint.

More then "Angel and Demon" the two are more of Yin and Yang. The opposites which balance eachother out - the Yin and the Yang that is in each of us.

Just they are a physical embodiment.

So what's their purpose? Why are they so special?

They're the only ones who can see and guard Matilda's portal. Not even Matilda's mother and sister can see the portal.

So long as they keep in balance with eachother - the portal is safe.

Not that they can't argue like most brothers and sisters do. You can't have the good without the bad and vice versa. So long as that arguing never escalates to hate the portal should be safe.

We think.

So is one wholly dark and creepy and the other so light that it hurts your eyes?

No. Not at all.

You see - while they embody dark and light - they feed off eachother - gaining the other's traits into themselves. Even if it doesn't show most of the time.

If that makes any sense at all.

WARNING: Because these children are so Meta-plot heavy, I MUST warn you! They COULD (not saying they WILL) get hurt/Maimed/Scarred...However - the chances of them actually dying...Well they're slim to none and WILL NOT happen without your permission ^_~ Don't worry.

How you do this is completely up to you. They could have been either one person in their past life - or really twins or brother and sister or even friends. The sky is the limit. I'm looking forward to seeing different ideas and stories!

In their present life though, they should understand eachother fairly well.

It's also going to be interesting to see your take on WHY they came up as one soul split into two rather than two souls ^_^



The Prompts FOR ROUND NUMBER TWO

Prompt #1

Your teenager comes to you and tells you they have something "very important" to discuss with you. When you finally settle down in the living room, they plainly state - they (or the other person, if you're using the male twin), are pregnant and that it was a result of a drunken one night stand. What is your reaction? What do you do? What's the other twin's reaction?

Prompt #2

After much begging, pleading and whining your twins finally convince you to get a pet. What do they get? What do they finally do to convince you? How do they split the responsibilities? And most importantly...Who names it? (You KNOW they'll fight over that one twisted )

Prompt #3

One of the twins gets chicken pox - the other does not. It logically follows that they need to be separated for an indefinite period of time to make sure the other does not get sick. How do the twins deal with the separation and how does the healthy one handle the sick twin getting so much attention?

First and foremost before I make this announcement - let me tell you how hard this decision was. We had 11 WONDERFUL entries - and I enjoyed reading EVERY single one of them.

We actually had 12. But...We don't like to talk about that 12th entry. A moment of silence please! *Bows head and says silent prayer for the illiteracy of some people*

Thankfully I was able to narrow it down to my top 5 choices - meaning 6 of you don't move on to the next round. I wish I could give you all your twins. Unfortunately for that - there are only two babies and 11 of you.

And only one in the end will get them...

Anyway. The five to move on to the next round (IN NO PARTICULAR ORDER AT ALL)

It'll depend on the prompts I think. I'm not going to spend 5k unless I think I have at least some small chance at winning. And if I don't have a good idea for the prompts, that'll be a sign that I don't have a chance.

Question. In their past life they were an angel/demon, correct? Are we talking generic angel/demon, or do we need to constrict it to the biblical concept?
