Stealing my art makes me VERY cranky, and will get you blacklisted. Put the word hamster in your order post when you are buying a familiar. 5) No Spamming/ Bumping! [align=center][size=24][color=indigo]History[/color][/size][/align] Ever since the days of Arthur, there has been a Dame Avalon. It is she who has overseen the care and propagation of the magical animals known as familiars since time beyond time. The title of Dame Avalon is passed down from mother to daughter, the way the title Merlin is passed from father to son. It used to be the Dame and the Merlin who chose new witches and wizards on the day of their births. However, it has been generations since a Dame and a Merlin have walked the world. Centuries ago, the isle of Avalon was sealed from the mortal world, and with it the Old Ways and the practice of magic. This created several problems, the first and most vexing of which for Dame Avalon being the overpopulation of small, fizzing balls of energy all over the island, as one woman cannot possibly give hundreds of newborn familiars enough attention that they might evolve into animal form. The second being that no new witches and wizards have been born since that time. But, with magic there is always a way. The current Dame Avalon happened to bond with a familiar created from Translocation magic. She trained her little rat-shaped friend to help boost her own Translocation spells. The process took years, but then, the Dame had nothing if not plenty of time on her hands. Eventually, Dame Avalon and her familiar were able to translocate from Avalon to the mortal world. The Dame brought with her a few pocketsful of infant familiars with the hopes that the ancient blood of the witches and wizards had not been bred out of the world. Now the Dame has set up shop on a quiet streetcorner in your town. Only those with the old blood can see her shop for what it is; to all other eyes it appears as nothing more than a simple storefront with no signs or placards to indicate it's purpose. But, for some reason, you felt the need to enter. And for you, as you opened the door, a door opened for you into a world touched by Avalon.
[align=center][size=24][color=indigo]Examples[/color][/size][/align] When you first recieve your familiar, it will appear as a bit of pure magic, which looks much the same for every familiar regardless of species. It will, however, give you a hint as to the colors of your new familiar. When in this stage, the familiar is capable of only limited movement, and cannot speak, breed, etc. After a few days to a week (depending on roleplay), your bit of raw magic will morph itself into the shape of one of the following species (Please bear in mind that these examples are uncolored and of low quality to discourage theft.): Cat: [img]http://i40.photobucket.com/albums/e235/magical_companions/cat.jpg[/img] Rat: [img]http://i40.photobucket.com/albums/e235/magical_companions/rat.jpg[/img] Bat: [img]http://i40.photobucket.com/albums/e235/magical_companions/bat.jpg[/img] Snake: [img]http://i40.photobucket.com/albums/e235/magical_companions/snake.jpg[/img] Owl: [img]http://i40.photobucket.com/albums/e235/magical_companions/owl.jpg[/img] ?: There is one species we are concealing the identity of for the time being. There will be one new mystery species in each flatsale. It doesn't end there, however. It is possible, through interacting with your familiar (I.E, through roleplay) to cause it to evolve further. This Elder stage is very diffficult to achieve, and the process is very personal to each person and their familiar. Thus, we can offer you no examples of the results of this process at this time. It is also possible to change your familiar's physiology somewhat through the use of magical potions and other items.
[align=center][size=24][color=indigo]Abilities[/color][/size][/align] Familiars are, in fact, the awakening force behind the latent magic of humans. One cannot cast or perform magic of each school unless one has this tangible connection to the magic itself; some say the Merlins used to give out wands, but the Merlins have been missing for as long as the Dames Avalon, and even the Dames have no idea what happened to them. Familars are formed of raw magic. Magic comes in a variety of types, and familars can be created from any of them. Each different type of magic has an influence on familiars created from it; this manifests both in their physical appearance and in the magic they are capable of performing, as follows. Necromancy: These familars usually have black on them somewhere. They have powers centering around death and the dead, such as the ability to see and speak to ghosts, manipulate ectoplasm, and posess dead bodies. Divination: These familiars' colors nearly always include some yellow. They have powers include seeing into the past, the future, and distant locations. Creation: These familiars often include green in their colors. They manifest abilities such as creating small objects out of nothing, healing, or augmenting items. Destruction: These familiars usually have red in their colors. They have powers such as causing spontaneous decay of items, bursts of raw elemental energy, and aging. Illusion: These familiars are often orange. They have powers to create small visual or auditory figments, control light and sound, and hide creatures and objects. Translocation: These familiars usually have purple somewhere in their colors. They have abilities such as flight, teleportation, and summoning. Protection: These familiars are often white. They have abilities such as ward, bind, and repel. Hexes and Charms: These familiars usually include blue somewhere in their colors. They often manifest abilities such as curses, enhancing luck, and influencing the emotions of creatures. Metamorphosis: These familiars are often grey. They manifest abilities centering around change; they can change one object into another, or one creature into another, or permanently change the color of objects or creatures.
[align=center][size=24][color=indigo]Genetics[/color][/size][/align] There are four genetics categories. The familiar's capability in each area is designated by a number for simplicity, with 0 being low and 9 being the highest possible score. For your reference, the average human has fives in all categories. Strength: This represents the familiar's raw physical power and grace. 0- can barely stand, falls down stairs daily. 9- Physical power well beyond the creature's size, preternatural grace. Stamina: This represents the familiar's endurance. 0- has trouble walking up stairs 9- can run for days and not tire Intelligence: This represents the familiar's capability to understand complex thought. At a score of 3 it can communicate (think "Lassie.") At five it can actually speak. 0- Forgets to eat unless you shove food in front of it. 9- Understands the mysteries of the cosmos. Temperament: This represents the familiar's personality. 0- bastardly and evil 9- sweet, affable, angelic.
[align=center][size=24][color=indigo]Adopting[/color][/size][/align] 1) Read the Rules. (above) 2) Choose a Spark that appeals to you. (only one per owner per flatsale, thanks) 3) Check the last few pages of the thread to see if anyone has reserved (posted an order for) the same familiar. If they have, do not ask for the familiar. Pick a different one or wait until the next flatsale. If no one has claimed it already, post your order. 4) Your post should include the number of the familiar you want, it's name, and a brief description of your candidate witch/wizard. Include age, sex, profession, and a sentence about their personality. Note: Candidates are not already magically inclined. In this version of reality, magic has been locked away from humanity for a very long time and relegate to myth and legend. The bond with a familiar is what gives a Dame or Merlinus the ability to touch and manipulate magic. 5) Begin a trade with me (Dame Avalon) for the price of the familiar you are adopting. NOTE: If you have asked for a familiar after someone else has already done so, this trade will be cancelled. I may or may not have the time to explain to you why the trade was cancelled, especially given that you should have worked it out for yourself. 6) As soon as I can get to it, your trade will be accepted and you will be sent an invitation to the Guild. Procedure for picking up your familiar varies by flatsale. (Steps 1-6 MUST happen before your familiar can evolve!) 7 ) Post your familiar in the Registry thread in the Guild. This is not required unless you want to breed it later, but is strongly encouraged. 8 ) After all this, it is time to begin roleplaying with your familiar. Familiars grow in power and complexity at a rate dependent on the amount of time you spend with them. The type of magic your familiar is made of determines the kind of magic you can do. [align=center][size=24][color=indigo]Breeding[/color][/size][/align] Any adult familiar can breed with any other adult familiar; however they will never produce hybrids. A breeding spot will cost 3,000gp. This pays for one offspring. You may purchase up to three more offspring at a cost of 1,000gp apiece. (for a total of four offspring) These still count as the first slot. Three breeding slots will be made available per month. They are dispensed on a first-come first-serve basis. Extra breeding slots may be made available [u]at my discretion[/u] at half-cost to good roleplayers. Asking for one of these slots is an excellent way to never recieve one. This is the only way to procure magical beasts as familiars. Your chosen animal will never become one of the new mystery species at the flatsales.
