The contests are in the next post, keep reading... 3nodding
Yes, the title is Awkward, but there is something that needs to be said here.
There are hundreds, maybe even thousand legetimate peitions out there from Gaians with good ideas who want to get something done, but for every good peition there's plenty of bad ones, and for every bad ones there's plenty of nastiness... This is not a petition for Gaia Staff, it's a petition for all of us...
Remember folks: if you see a petition you don't like don't harass the owner: just don't sign it! Not only can it be considered flaming (yes, mean PMs are flaming too), posting in the thread also bumps the thread up where others will notice it which is especially bad if the Petition is a Flame or "trolling" petition! The banner(s) provided here are for LINKING, not harassment, after all, this Petition is all about following the rules! 3nodding Of course, if you make good Petitions, you wont't have to worry about nastiness, so...
....What's a Bad petition? It's a petition that may sound good, but will NEVER happen because Gaia allready said no in thier rules.
Here's a couple things Gaia has said NO to...
Items that are "from" an copywritten source... (offical info link)
This can get messy FAST because the sources are copywritten. There can be SIMILAR items (ex- elftech cap is like Link's hat from the Zelda series and the Steel-plated Ninja Headband is like Naruto's headband) but nothing EXACTLY like the items because copyright laws won't allow it unless Gaia pays massive money! So instead of making threads about items from a show, instead make it about the item itself having nothing to do with the show (except maybe as an example picture). For an example, if you want a hat like Luffy from One Piece, then make a "Straw Hat Peition" instead of a "Once Piece Items Petition".
"Anime Copy" or similar items are NOT the same!
Similar items are EDITED and are not like the origional ones. For example, Doll ears are NOT chi ears (it's white cat ears, no bolts, no plates, no electronic parts ) and Steel-plated Ninja Band is not Naruto's Headband (it's a plain black headband with a steel plate and a gaia wing on it). As it is those items are dangerously close to copyright and the fact that this is such an easily-disputed and thin grey area is why new "Anime Copy" items are dangerous to suggest and rarely listened to.
Sometimes "Anime Copy" items are not possible, but there is an alternative! 3nodding
Sometimes "Anime Copy" items/clothes are just too unique to make into Gaia items because changing the item to something that wouldn't break copyright would mean the item becomes unrecognisable. (examples: InuYahsa stuff, Keyblades, Neo Genesis Evangelon suits & brain detectors, Cowboy Bebop clothes...) in these cases, just ask for something along the same lines! People wanted FLCL (Fooly Cooly) guitars and stuff and got the Guitar of Demona, Guitar of Angelus, and the TV head mask: a battle guitar and a tv-android part! Items along the same lines are always a safe bet.
Recolors of Donation Items (official info link)
Donation items are relaced ONCE ONLY as Gaia's way of thanking us for helping keep the site going. Releacing recolored items only lowers the number of people who will donate because then the donation items aren't really special anymore. The only exception to this rule was the Kiki-CoCo kitty because a glitch in a rollback caused mass deletions of Kiki kitties, and, as a form of apology, Gaia releaced the CoCo kitty so Gaians may still have a kitty. Also, CoCo Kitty skirts the "no recolors!" rule because it is an "evil" version of a "Good" item and thus it technically is a totally diferent item, not just a "Black Kiki Kitty". The "Nitemare Anklet Petition" is an example of a petition not for a recolor, but for an evil version of a good item. As changing and item from good to evil changes it's atributes as well as it's colors, it's not the same as asking for a recolor, which is why evil versions sometimes are made later on (Halo & Horns of the Demon for example as well as Kiki Kitty and CoCo Kitty).
Change the Rules of Gaia
The rules are there for a reason. Unless there is a MAJOR problem, such as the near-cybering that was happening in the Chatterbox, the rules will not be changed. Nomatter how much people whine, unless there really is a problem, all the whining will just be ignored.
Repeat Petitions (official info link)
If there's allready a petition out of what you are wishing to change, making a new petition actually works AGAINST your goal! How? Because having competing links looking for signatures means there's less signatures on each and thus less chance of getting things to change because it looks like less people want the change than there really is. Gaia has asked us to look through the threads for existing petitions before making a new one. I'd suggest going back 4 pages and using your browser's "Find" feature to help make it easier (just hit Ctrl+f to bring it up).
New Features
Want to be able to chosoe your Gaia Layout or perhaps you have a cool new game idea? Then go for it! As long as it's not based off anything copywritten, it's fine!
Ex: A Daily Crossword
Origional Items
Wings, tails, and other things not taken from any copywritten source are fine! In fact, they often get made!
EX: More Japanese Items!
New Weapons/Battle Ideas
Suggest these RIGHT HERE or they may get lost!
EX: Scimitars
Please post here to Sign!
(if you want to bump here to help once you've signed, feel free)
(a note to readers: This is a rules-oriented petition signed by people who are promising to adhere to Gaia's guidelines on Petitions and what they asked us NOT to do. This petition also gives suggestions for making better petitions, has a list of nifty petitions I like, and suggests just not signing an alternative to general nastiness that happens when someone spots a petition Gaia has allready said "NO" to. This is not targeting anyone or any particular petition, just restating the rules. 3nodding )This part added Jan 31, 2005. See News section for details.
