~*~General Rules~*~

* First and foremost, be courteous to EVERYONE in this thread. If any of the Hopperz staff catches you disregarding this rule, you will be banned from ALL Hopperz events!
* Follow all Gaia terms of service.
* Please read all rules of events. From time to time there may be conditions to adopting certain Hopperz.
* Do NOT steal the art! Myself and I'm sure the artist will be very mad. If caught, you will be reported and banned from the shop.
* No nOOb/chat talk. If you can't speak proper grammar, please don't post in this thread.
* If there are no Hopperz listed for adoption, please don't ask. None posted means none for sale!

~*~Roleplay Rules~*~

* These -ARE- roleplay required pets. Don't worry, its not intensive though.
* Owners must come by the thread at least once a week to say hello.
* Owners must roleplay at least twice a month in the thread. (This doesn't mean one or two post per roleplay and that's it)
* You can not kill another Hopper, unless discussed between both owners and myself (Dixie).
* No sexually based roleplays!
* The more you roleplay, the quicker your Hopper will grow!
* There are rewards for owners that make me happy through roleplay. That can be through roleplaying a lot, having an intriguing roleplay, etc.

Maya knew they were out there. They simply had to be. She?d found half of one of their eggs, which she had mistaken for a carrot at first, as it lay with the broken side hidden in the tall grass. Certainly an odd carrot, she had thought, when she picked it up inquisitively and discovered that it was hollow and made of a hard, thin substance that reminded her, oddly enough, of an eggshell. Then she?d found fragments of it scattered about, looking exactly like bits of broken eggshells, and that settled it. They were real.

Her only trouble was finding out what exactly ?they? were. No one Maya knew had seen them. Even old Bata, the local hag, who was probably a hundred years old, only knew that when she was young, there had been stories about the elusive, clever creatures that lived hidden in the forests and the tall grass on the plains. Unfortunately for Maya?s curiosity, she knew nothing more. Not what they looked like, not what they ate, whether they were tamable ? nothing. Even the carrot-shaped eggshell had come as a surprise to her, and Maya went away disappointed.

Maya had seen one once, or so she believed. That was when she was only five and had been playing in a brook. She had seen a wavering reflection in the water and had raised her head to look for the cause of it, only catching sight of a long, thin, tail and a pair of furry hindquarters as they disappeared rapidly into the underbrush. ?Cleverlings,? she had dubbed them, and it was to find them, those elusive, tantalizing creatures, that the ten-year-old girl was now out hiking in the woods.

Maya stopped and looked about her dubiously. She had come to a place where some of the usually tall grass was nibbled short, and after considering it intently for a moment, she nodded in satisfaction. Something had been here, and her unusually keen nose was telling her that she didn?t know what. It must be the Cleverlings, she thought, her brown eyes sparkling, and sat down silently to wait, hidden partly by a patch of tall grass and partly by a large, sprawling bush.

She was admirably suited for this naturalistic hiking she found so enjoyable. Her hair was the same forest-green as the leaves of the bushes and trees ? and entirely, completely natural, as she often told people who looked askance at it. Her skin was toughened by the weather and browned by the sun, and she was so small, even for a ten-year-old, that she could fit into the most ridiculous hiding places. Her small, bare feet were hard from a lifetime of going barefoot, and she was nimble and quick. And her search for the Cleverlings had taught her to be patient and silent.

Insect life buzzed, crawled, and generally went on with life around her as she sat, perfectly still but for the rising and falling of her chest as she breathed. A few birds flew down from the branches above her head to gives her quick, inquisitive glances out of their bright black eyes and then fly off nervously, as birds will, when they discovered by the movement of her eyes that she was alive. An hour passed, and then another, and still Maya sat quietly, although she had closed her eyes and was relying on her sense of smell and hearing to tell her when her unknowing hosts arrived.

After almost three hours, there was a rustling sound nearby. Maya?s eyes flew open, and she caught her breath in a gasp.

In the tiny clearing before her, seven creatures had arrived. At first sight, they reminded her of rabbits, but they were very different on second glance. They were standing or lounging on their hinds legs, and on their forehead oval, jewel-like protuberances sparkled faintly in the filtered light. Their ears were large, and Maya noticed that the ears of four of the Cleverlings (they could be nothing else) were upright and moved quickly and in a way suggesting intense interest, while the ears of the other three drooped away from their heads as if they meant to inform anyone who happened to be looking that they were taking things easily and had everything under control. Their fur varied in color, but somehow seemed to blend in with the landscape. Their eyes were large and golden-brown and sparkled beautifully.

After her first initial gasp of surprise and wonder, Maya held her peace, though her whole face was transformed with wonder and delight. She concentrated on studying them, memorizing the way they moved, the looks in their expressive eyes, the way they seemed to be talking cheerfully to each other without words. Two of the Cleverlings were much bigger than the others ? they must be the parents, thought Maya excitedly, - and this is a whole family of Cleverlings!

The creatures moved with quick, hopping steps. Three of them, whom Maya classified as children, had abandoned their grazing to join hands and fling themselves about in a hopping, whirling dance that made her hands itch with the urge to clap, but she restrained herself, now thinking rapidly as she watched the two adults nudge a baby Cleverling to a patch of grass that looked fresh and mouth-watering - from their point of view.

If she showed herself now, how would they react? She was so much bigger than them, and since they normally avoided humans there was no reason to suspect that they would abandon the rule in her case. Would they run away? Would they, perhaps, attack her? She had no idea if they had some way of protecting themselves, other than disappearing so fast that it seemed like magic, of course.

She was still attempting to decide upon her course of action when it was decided for her. The giddy dance of the children Cleverlings had brought them so close to her hiding spot that when one of them tripped upon a rock and stumbled dizzily, it stumbled right through the tall grass surrounding her and fell right into her lap.

Maya was frozen with amazement that was half fear. The small Cleverling was blinking slowly and with an astonished look in its eyes as it stared at her and seemed to realize that this was not a bush. It made a small, inquisitive sound.

Instantly one of the older Cleverlings was there. It brushed through the tall grass and stood in front of Maya, and made a noise that was half like a cat?s spitting and hissing and half like a very small child?s shriek of anger, and hopped wildly from one foot to the other.

Maya hastily picked up the younger Cleverling and held it out. The older one snatched it back and dropped it behind its back, then regarded her cautiously.

?I?m not going to hurt you,? said Maya, clearly and slowly.

The other Cleverlings had gathered together and seemed to silently conferring with each other, but the adult was still staring at Maya guardedly.

Maya tried to think of what she could do to show them that she meant no harm. Slowly she reached into her belt - what had she brought? She couldn?t remember, and the Cleverling was hopping agitatedly ? and pulled out half a peanut-butter and jelly sandwich. She tossed it gently to the ground in front of the Cleverling, who hopped back a foot and then advanced cautiously to prod it.

Maya held her breath. The Cleverling licked the sandwich with a small pink tongue, then took a tiny bite out of it. Its expression changed from cautious to delighted, and, ignoring Maya, it carried the sandwich back to the others, where it was rapidly divided and consumed.

Then the Cleverlings simply hopped over to Maya and waited. They stared at her with their large golden-brown eyes, and the children made small mewling noises.

?Are you waiting for me to leave?? asked Maya curiously. They were displaying no more of that legendary caution that had so often thwarted her search.

She stood up. The creatures moved back a bit but still waited. Maya turned and set off for her house. They followed her.

They followed her all the way back to her home, hopping rapidly. Maya couldn?t resist looking back at them, and she found herself thinking how inappropriate her name for them was. They certainly were clever, but cleverness did not describe them. They were adorable. They were soft and cuddly-looking. They hopped all the time -

It was at this point of her ruminations that Maya reached her house. Her mother was standing at the door, waiting for her, and when she saw the animals following behind her in a clump, she dropped a dish she had been drying.

?What?s this?? she gasped, astonished.

?I found them,? said Maya, beaming. ?All you have to do is be nice to them and give them a peanut-butter and jelly sandwich and they come right along.?

?You found them!? repeated Maya?s mother, astonished. ?What... those ?cleverlings? of yours ? they're real??

?Not ?cleverlings?,? corrected Maya, remembering the inappropriateness of the name. ??Cleverlings? was when I didn?t know what they were. They?re Hopperz now.?

Here we are! *The girl smiles and opens the door that leads into the adoption center, there were several of these little creatures laying about, there are no cages to be seen*There have been rumors of many MANY types of Hopperz, unfortunately for now, we've only been able to capture and domesticate the normal breed.*The young girl sighs a bit, but it fades quickly as she walks over to a female Hopper that seems to be guarding a carrot?* Each Hopper begins his or her life in the oddest shaped egg, it looks like a small carrot!*she points to the female and the 'egg', the soon to be mom smiles very proudly* Come on, there's more to go!

It struck me as odd at first when I found out these little carrots were eggs... *she holds one up for you to look at closer* But know that I've been working with Hopperz for some time, I see that it's only fitting....

*She makes her way from the nursery and looks out into the backyard of the shop, dozens of children were at play.* That one over there on the left is a little girl.... and that one on the right is a little boy.... At this age, they're all handfuls. *she laughs heartedly* They're tons of fun at this stage.
(Hopperz will stay in the teen stage forever if you don't play. No play=no grow!)

*She walks away from the backyard and heads back to lounge area*The adults are a lot calmer, though don't let them fool you, they have childish streaks every once in a while....*she eyed two adults sitting in the room*Those two for sure. Between the two of them, they're just oversized children! *the two Hopperz smiled and waved* That one there with the floppy ears, that's our male.... the other with perky ears, that's our female.

~*~Other Options for Obtaining a Hopper~*~
-Customs (listed below)
-Pet Trades (There are rules)-
Colorist can do -ANY- lineart as a custom, but can only do Basic lineart for pet trades. This is for the simple fact that I (Dixie) can not color, so the only way I can do a pet trade is to keep the other linework to myself. In other words, if you want to do a pet trade for a basic, see one of my wonderful colorist. If you want an angelic, demonic, cosmic, etc... You have to come to me. *nods* I'm not sure what my colorist are looking for, but below is my wishlist of pets.

Some things you should know about Ooki's colouring:
- As you can see by the samples, sometimes it's a very mixed look. I do not use many solid colours when colouring lineart and instead try to blend things in the best I can. =^_^=

About Ooki's lineart edits:
-I really like lineart edits. biggrin With Dixie's permission (since line-edits are rare), I might be able to make you a line-edit of any detail. ^^ *nod nod* I prefer colouring line-edited Hopperz, so line-edits are actually easier for me to do.

PET TRADES:

Well, I love pets. And there are different types of pets that I really like! I'd love to make you a custom, or anything you'd desire. The list of what pets I like is listed... and I will gladly trade for any of them. If you want a trade and the box is open, please contact me! ^_^
I still need to understand a little more of how the Pet Trades system works, so I might be a little clueless at times. I also need to pay an amount to the store, too, when I trade... so slots open when I have spare time and spare gold. razz

1. Are these pets roleplay required? Yes. These are 'light' roleplay pets. If you don't follow the rules, we reserve the right to reclaim your pets for resale.


2. How can I get a Hopper? Mainly in flatsales. From time to time there will be auctions and other events.


3. Can more than one person own a Hopper (Co-owning)? As of now, I'm going to say no. Perhaps later on...


4. Can I buy a Hopper for someone other than myself? Of course! The Hopperz make -wonderful- gifts for any pet collector! I'll just need your name, the receiver's name (for certing), and if you'd like to send a message ( Ex: "Thinking of you, I knew you wanted one!" wink when I PM the Hopper to the receiver!


5. Is there a limit on how many Hopperz we may own? Absolutely not! If you want 20 different Hopperz, then you can have 20 different Hopperz! (In fact, we'd love to sell you 20! *wink*)


6. Can I have a Hopper for free?....*Blank look*....Really.... do you have to ask?... No. My colorist do -not- work for free.


7. Can I have the linework to color? Just to color, No.


8. Can I be a guest colorist?From time to time I will be looking for a guest colorist. When this time comes, I will post the request in the upper portion of the thread where it can be easily seen.


9. Can I sell my Hopper? No. If you no longer want your Hopper, please return him/her to ither myself or the colorist. If I find that you -have- sold you Hopper, you will be banned from all Hopperz activities.


10. Do you do pet trades? As a matter of fact, I do! I'm not sure if my colorists will be doing pet trades, but in any case, the pets that I and/or my colorists will trade for will be listed in another post.


11. Do we direct link? You will direct link until your Hopper is grown. Once an adult, you will save to your own server.



-If there are any questions that I did not cover in the FAQs, please feel free to ask within the thread OR through PM. (If you are sending through PM, I just ask that you don't send -really- stupid questions....Ex: "I know the thread said I can't color the linework for fun, but can I please?"...Questions like these, will go unanswered.)
