Welcome to Gaia! ::

I was talking to someone today about homosexuality and marriage, and they presented a very convincing (to me) argument as to why Christians should reject homosexuality and homosexual marriage as acceptable.

He made the note that there are references in the Bible to the Church as the bride, and Christ (i.e. God) as the bridegroom. He also noted that in the beginning, before the fall of man, God created two humans, one male, one female, and put them together. He didn't make a man and a man, or a woman and a woman. He told the two to be fruitful and multiply. Even though there was no government or anything other than God to recognize it, Adam and Eve were the first married couple. Their marriage can be seen as a parallel to our relationship to God. Worshipping another god is the same as cheating on a spouse. Doing anything other than staying with God is a perversion of what he originally intended. In such a context homosexuality could be seen as the equivalent of self-worship, or the worship of things of this earth, which will not last.

So with this perspective homosexuality is a direct perversion of God's design. If homosexuality is a perversion of God's design, then a Christian that supports and approves of homosexuality is promoting a perversion over what God intended, and is therefore directly contradicting God and the church.

I would appreciate it if only Christians would post. I know that many of you non-Christians out there think the Bible is a load of crap and the we Christians shouldn't live our lives according to such an "out-dated" book, but who are you to butt in and tell us how to live? This thread is directed specifically at Christians, both those that do and don't support homosexuality, so your comments are irrelevant if you consider the Bible a worthless book.
All sin is a perversion of God's intended plan, so dont single out homosexuality.
i think thats known as 'adam and eve, not adam and steve'. so not exactly new, but true to us christians.

and although some people argue that if he didn't intend it, why did he make it possible. Paul said "all things are possible, but all are not permitable." so with out the option, it wouldn't be a choice. God wants us to chose good and right things, even if bad things are possible.
FOR THOSE OF YOU JUST TUNING IN:

THE NAME OF THIS THREAD IS THE RESULT OF A BUG THAT WAS EXPLOITED. BASICALLY, SOMEBODY WHO WAS NOT THE THREAD MAKER CAME INTO THE THREAD, AND SOMEHOW CHANGED THE NAME OF IT. IT WAS ORIGINALLY SOMETHING LIKE 'A NEW REASON AGAINST HOMOSEXUALITY.' THE THREAD MAKER IS UNABLE TO CHANGE THE NAME BACK. HE DOES NOT HATE HOMOSEXUALS, HE IS NOT A HOMOPHOBE.

Who are you to but into our lives and tell us that we shouldn't be homosexual?

I leave you with one question: What if Adam and Eve were both white? Does that mean that blacks should not be allowed to marry? And what if they were both black? Does that mean that whites shouldn't be allowed to marry?

Edit: Eh... forgot to address some points. Ah, well.

As for homosexuality being self worship, no. Just no. Taking a metaphor and stretching it out so it fits your purposes does not an argument make. Sorry.
Of course all sin is a perversion of God's plan, but what I'm looking for here is what people think of this specific argument (i.e. The parallel b/w marriage and our relationship with God).

Men <> God (that means "does not equal", if I remember my programming-skills)

And on the same note: God made a man and a woman and told them to be fruitful and multiply. He did not make three men and three women (for instance), meaning that the only people Adam and Eve could multiply with were themselves and their own children. So if you don't start incestuous relationships with the other members of your family, it's essentially a perversion of what God originally intended. I don't think you can put too much weight on the Adam and Eve-argument. At least you didn't bring up that god-awful "steve"-... thing.

I think God designed adam and eves genetics to contain all the variations we see today. As their kids bred and then seperated into their own gene pools, the characteristics showed up and got repeated so much that it stuck with that group while their distant cousins looked totally different.

race and homosexuality are not similar to me.

I'm guessing that Adam and Eve were dark enough not to be "white" but not dark enough to be "black." Besides, the Bible doesn't say one way or another. Either way, why should race matter? Gender matters in marriage, race doesn't/shouldn't.

I think this is a good point. However, I have a question to ask as well: According to the Christian religion, did not God create everything?

Well, obviously, since the church is made up of males and females (along with the other in-betweens) and God represents both male and female (and the in-betweens), He is for marriage of all kinds.

I'm sure that there's a proper response to that, but I am not knowedgable enough to answer that well. I'll hafta ask around to see. In the meantime, I think it's amusing that as much as people are putting down the whole "Adam and Steve" thing, this seems (to me) like only a slight variation on it, simply focusing on different aspects, tho.

Exscuse me? What makes you think that I'm going to abandon my position, sweetie?

How very shallow a question... stare Race and sexual perversion are not on equal planes. grow up.

Yes, God created everything. Why, though, do you ask?
