Barack Obama has announced his possible candidacy for the Presidential Race! It's about time! His parents are a white mother and black father (lol, he kinda looks like Tiger Woods mad D), he grew up in Hawaii with his grandmother.

He has firmly stated that the old Baby Boomers (in my rough translation, stiff necks!) should step aside and let the new generation govern for themselves. Personally, I think this might finally be our generation's chance to put in a president that is young, vibrant, mixed race, and and opinionated, instead of swaying with the popular vote (as in Hilary Clinton, the Democratic favorite for presidency). Very firmly, he has argued against the war in Iraq and it's inadequacy in securing America's security.

A Message from Barack

As many of you know, over the last few months I have been thinking hard about my plans for 2008. Running for the presidency is a profound decision - a decision no one should make on the basis of media hype or personal ambition alone - and so before I committed myself and my family to this race, I wanted to be sure that this was right for us and, more importantly, right for the country.

I certainly didn't expect to find myself in this position a year ago. But as I've spoken to many of you in my travels across the states these past months; as I've read your emails and read your letters; I've been struck by how hungry we all are for a different kind of politics.

So I've spent some time thinking about how I could best advance the cause of change and progress that we so desperately need.

The decisions that have been made in Washington these past six years, and the problems that have been ignored, have put our country in a precarious place. Our economy is changing rapidly, and that means profound changes for working people. Many of you have shared with me your stories about skyrocketing health care bills, the pensions you've lost and your struggles to pay for college for your kids. Our continued dependence on oil has put our security and our very planet at risk. And we're still mired in a tragic and costly war that should have never been waged.

But challenging as they are, it's not the magnitude of our problems that concerns me the most. It's the smallness of our politics. America's faced big problems before. But today, our leaders in Washington seem incapable of working together in a practical, common sense way. Politics has become so bitter and partisan, so gummed up by money and influence, that we can't tackle the big problems that demand solutions.

And that's what we have to change first.

We have to change our politics, and come together around our common interests and concerns as Americans.

This won't happen by itself. A change in our politics can only come from you; from people across our country who believe there's a better way and are willing to work for it.

Years ago, as a community organizer in Chicago, I learned that meaningful change always begins at the grassroots, and that engaged citizens working together can accomplish extraordinary things.

So even in the midst of the enormous challenges we face today, I have great faith and hope about the future - because I believe in you.

And that's why I wanted to tell you first that I'll be filing papers today to create a presidential exploratory committee. For the next several weeks, I am going to talk with people from around the country, listening and learning more about the challenges we face as a nation, the opportunities that lie before us, and the role that a presidential campaign might play in bringing our country together. And on February 10th, at the end of these decisions and in my home state of Illinois, I'll share my plans with my friends, neighbors and fellow Americans.

In the meantime, I want to thank all of you for your time, your suggestions, your encouragement and your prayers. And I look forward to continuing our conversation in the weeks and months to come.

Sincerely,

I've gotta say, if he DOES win the primaries, he's got my vote in the bag.

This will be fun to watch. I bet Hillary is going to produce smear images against Obama, proving that Democrats, frankly, only care about themselves and power, and not about ideas.

Yes, because one woman represents the millions of democrats in America. rolleyes

How about we turn it around and say that Obama running a positive campaign proves that democrats only care about bettering the country with a feel good campaign? Not that I'd ever expect to hear that coming from you. The republicans are just as good as smearing people as democrats are which was seen in 2000 when Bush's group trashed McCain's image.

McCain was overstepping his boundry. Agreed about the Obama postive remark, disagree with your comment in the sentence after that; Like I said, your opinion, even though it's wrong.

Obama is like the Democratic version of Ronald R.
Hopefully without the screwing with Middle eastern politics by siding with certain countries in war. Overthrowing democratically elected governments in South America, cutting welfare, creating huge budget deficits that required heavy borrowing from abroad and domestically (which causes the US to go from creditor nation to world's largest borrower), saving and loans scandals and hopefully without him being in a state of confusion thanks to his mental condition, right?
I can't say I'm too familiar with this guy, but still, anything is better than the psuedo-conservative Hillary! surprised

Well, McCain often oversteps boundaries, nothing new there. But the fact remains that both parties are guilty of running ugly races. If people want to smear someone, they will do it whether they have any real dirt to throw or not.

Obama the RR of today??? no, not at all. Obama is smart and awake, so two points there! xd In fact though, Obama has much more insight into the American people and their needs than Ronnie ever did which makes him a viable candidate to the masses, not just those who have or believe in specific ideologies. He also 'seems' to be strong in his convictions and not afraid of taking on tough opposition when it comes to defending them. (Quality some say they like about Bush, but the difference is that Oabama deals in reality and concern for the people's concerns, where Bush defends his own egocentric ideologies and goals to the point of obsession over his "power to be the decider".)

Hillary would be wise to refrain from any attempt to throw mud in the contest, as that would most likely only strengthen support for Obama. Although I like her in general, I find that her policies tend to more "inline" with the conservative while she speaks out as a liberal. Too much contradiction from her to feel I can trust her, but she would still be a major improvement over Bush and much better than McCain or the many other neocons throwing their hats into the ring.
No, he is not the right choice for this country, he needs more leadership exp. in the senate, and, he needs to treat the run more professionaly instead of like a celeberty contest, like he is making it seem like.

True, and the media has treated Obama like one, more than like a politician. But then, we had Ronnie for pres and Arnie is running CA, so maybe it can help.

Making policies loved by his party and being a hero to half of the country?

And how SHOULD an election be treated, if not a performance? That's all they ever are. People say what they want to be heard. They calculate their every move, and that is why we have people like Arnold Schwarzeneggar(sp?) Jesse Ventura, and Ronald Reagan in politics. They, like it or not, know how to make a performance. They're career actors, and even if they're not the best out there, they still know what they need to do to get the roll, whether it be in a movie or in the white house.
Well said, and we've had our share of presidents who were merely class actors, with a tie and fancy policies.

This election should be interesting. There are several presidential candidates that would make their election a first. A woman candidate, an African-American candidate, a Latino candidate, a Mormon candidate. Hmm, and the drums start rolling domokun .
