The storyteller opened her book and cast a glance at the children. She sat in a rocking chair out in the sand, at the edge of the ocean. Behind her, a massive serpentine creature, aged and adorned with frilly fins, kept watch.

"You want to know where the guardians came from?" The old woman asked, referring to the giant behind her. It must have been her pet.

The children nodded vigorously, and the old woman smiled in response. She did love to tell the story, it was always fun for her as well. "Then I will tell you of how these animals came to be, and why they were so important." She began to read from her book to the children with flair and animation...

"Centuries ago, deep within the ocean lay a city built by people far beyond their time. These humans were driven to the ocean by war and fammine on land, and the ocean held no such displeasures. Seaweed was plentiful, and the group that transgressed into watery life was peaceful. Thinkers and engineers, this single group built and sank their perfect city out of reach of the landlocked wars. For a long time, they were left in peace to govern themselves, grow for themselves, and it was a near utopia. Of course legend of their city grew, and the land dwellers became curious. They developed their own technology to explore the sea bottom, bringing not only just explorers, but those who would conquer the city as well.

The intelligence of the people who had escaped into the sea had not dwindled through the generations, however. They developed and bred massive sea monsters to protect them from the onslaught of conquests. These giant beasts patroled the edges of the bubbled in city from the ocean, and destroyed any vessel that tried to approach. The Guardians were efficient at their job, and loyal to their human companions.

And so the city lasted quite a while longer, protected by crushing waves and an army of monsters unseen by anyone on the surface. More peace prospered. Until the people on land became very determined, and launched a massive attack against the undersea city. It was unrivaled by any other battle ever experienced by mankind. The land peoples developed weapons specially designed for their undersea encounter, and for that the sea people were unprepared. The clash between the monsters, the weapons, and the undersea bubble resulted in the weapons and the city being laid to waste.

The story is, that some of the seamonsters, the Guardians of Atlantia, escaped before they were killed by the weapons. Eventually the city and the monsters faded into legend and were forgotten by everyone.

That is, until a clutch of eggs washed ashore. That clutch was the beginning of the staunchly protective companions that we have today. They are the beginning of our continuing story..."

An entry is handwritten into the storybook, for the month of December:
"A storm passed through last night, whipping up cold water onto the shoreline. The Guardians have all either gone down deep with the warm water, or sought shelter in places people don't normally want them, like garages. Shockingly, the storm had enough power to it to put a thick layer of fresh snow even on the sand. Frothy waves breaking onto the snow covered sands is probably the most beautiful thing I've ever seen, but none of that is important to this entry. Today, the day after the storm, a group of beach combers tumbled upon something startling. A frost colored Guardian, huge female. The girl was unlike anything we'd ever seen, her scales were covered in a rich fur in places. Further exploration found two other adult specimens of this new subspecies. We had known that the Atlantians bred several types of Jourmung, but exactly how many is unknown even now.

The new subspecies has been deemed 'Arctic' by our local scientists. Its fitting, actually, considering how they came to shore. They are indeed unique, very well built for cold water. Perhaps there was more to the Atlantian society than once thought, and they had many cities throughout the ocean. It would make sense for the specialized purpose these animals appear to have.

The scientists have gathered the information they need to accurately categorize the Arctics. These Guardians appear as friendly toward humans as the previously discovered normal subspecies, so now we're looking to give them homes. It shouldn't take long, these animals are a lot more cuddly than a regular scaly creature."

A scrawled entry is written. It is not dated, and seems like it was entered in quite a hurry.

"We have unwittingly unleashed the demons. Deep sea divers off of our coast brought two strange eggs back to the facility and they were unlike anything we had ever seen. Larger and having protective protrusions. We hatched them here, not knowing what would come of it. The babies that came from these eggs were also larger than normal, and bat winged. For a long time they were docile, and the babies were as sweet as any Jourmung.

The teens shattered their enclosure. We had to find higher grade materials for their aquarium, and still these horned creatures fought to escape. It wasn't long before they were flying and the enclosure needed a roof...

Now the adults are loose. There wasn't anything that could hold them. We have retreated, and they are ransacking the lab. Oh the equipment! It will be months... though that may not matter. I have managed to escape with the Atlantian texts, that is why we now know these are the evil fighter Jourmung, a subspecies designed to protect the city. Apparently their instincts still run strong. There is only one real chance, we must somehow subdue them and retrain them..."

The scrawling stops abruptly, trailing off.

1. You must show up and post ATLEAST once a month. Failure to do so will have your pet taken away and resold.

2. Those with rares need to post at the very least show up twice a month. Some rares and auctions will be RP required, and those will be listed ahead of time. Failure to make the posting requirement without notice of hiatus will result in the loss of your pet. We DO check the status of people on hiatus. If you're showing up every day and posting elsewhere, don't expect your pet to be around much longer.

3. No stealing. That includes claiming the pet as your own, coloring one without permission, and/or otherwise attempting shady business with the property of the shop.

4. Be polite and courteous. Starting s**t will get you in a hell of a lot of trouble with Glacial. OOC Drama is to be kept OUT of this shop.

5. Roleplaying is not required but is encouraged.

6. Any and all trades are to be sent to the mule unless specified otherwise.

7. Obey the rules and you'll be fine. They're seriously not hard to follow if you actually care about what you purchase. If you're complaining or whining about how this shop is run, you will get automatically grey listed. Continue to do so, and you will get banned.
If you have a problem with one of us, PM the mule and settle your problem with us in private. You'll get further that way.

~ What Are these called anyway?
Atlantican Gaurdians or Sea Serpents as a general name, and the species itself was named Jourmung by its creators. Take your pick.

~ Can I have one?
Check the sales, auction, and events post.

~ No, I mean a free one.
Nope. Setting up a shop and running it is expensive goldwise. There might be a random free raffle, but asking for free or reduced priced pets will make GlacialWolf pop a gasket.

~ Can they walk on land?
Yes. They are like anphibians in that they are both gill and lung breathers. However, the Jourmung are most comfortable in the sea.

~ For auctions and flatsales, can we pay in items?
Yes. Donation items are taken at mid Teh Guide prices. If your item currently has an inflated price listed, we will take it at mid inflated price. Common items are taken at sellback (Half store) price. Rares (Nitemare/Angelic headband, Nitemare Bustier, etc.) will also be taken at mid Teh Guide pricing.

~ So.. no uncommons?
No thank you. I realize its a shade complicated, but be sure you're familiar with the item bidding policy before using them in a bid.

~ For Roleplay, can I interact with my Jourmung as a character in the shop?
Of course. Your personal character can have as little or as much appearance as you like in interactions with your pet. However, Jourmung do not speak in human tongue. He may be able to communicate with you through body language, but on a very, very basic level. Jourmung can learn to understand human speaking, but not on a complex level.

Stages:

Usually, Jourming go through four stages in their lifetime:

Egg > Baby > Teen > Adult

Sometimes, there are Jourmung that reach the age of elder, usually through extensive roleplay and significant age, shopwise. Its a coveted stage where the age and power of the Guardian really shows.

Very rarely, there have been sightings of anthropomorphic sea creatures. There are rumors that they are mermaids, but the books from Atlantia show that these elusive beings are actually transformed Jourmung, morphed to take on a closer appearance to those they guard. At this time, it is only known that basic Jourmung can become anthros.

Subspecies:

Angels:
Large Jourmung with great feathery wings and a good streak a mile wide. They're usually sweet and trustworthy, and enlightened. They were specially bred to be companions inside the city, and rarely took a place in the battles for its safety. These are a passive subspecies.

Demons:
Also large Jourmung, but bred for an opposite purpose. They were the battle leaders, are fierce and unruly. Demons were never allowed inside the city of Atlantia because of their nature, and the widespread fear that the bloodthirsty ones would not be able to distinguish between those they were to protect, and those they were to kill. Conducting new studies...

Techs:
An extremely rare subspecies. The only knowledge of them so far comes from spare parts excavated from the ruins of Atlantia.

Arctics:
A furred subspecies slightly smaller than the average Jourmung. Their adaptations make them perfect for cold water, and why exactly they were bred this way is uncertain. We do know, however, that they are very fluffy and cuddly when dry.

Halfbreeds:
Only a subnote in some Atlantian texts. They appear to be an abomination and were destroyed when they were created accidentally.

Flatsale Rules

~ Each egg will cost either 5 or 6K.
~ You can only buy one per flatsale.
~ No editing posts. We will KNOW.
~Pay attention to the rules of each type of flat. You get one shot. (Usually)
~ If you proxy for another person, that person your proxying for cannot try.
~ If you proxy, you may not try for yourself.
~ You may not have multiple people proxy for you.
~ If you win an egg, send the trade asap to the mule.
~ Do not complain or start something if you do not win or get the one you want.

Flatsale Types

Roleplay Prompt
This is the most common type of flatsale. Participants will have a certain span of time, from thirty to forty-five minutes, to respond to a prompt in order to recieve a flatsale egg. Entries should be articulate, in paragraphs, and well organized. The more interesting the character in the roleplay, the higher your chance of recieving pick of the eggs.

Winners will choose in the order they are judged.

Randomized
For those who aren't the best roleplayers, we will have an occasional random flatsale. Participants will roll one 100 sided die, and the closest to 100 for that egg will recieve the flatsale egg. This type is best explained by example, and will be outlined in detail before flatsales.

Speedsale
Uncommon here because GW doesn't like them. Basically first to post for an egg after the 'GO' post, gets that egg.

Previews

All sold.

Events will happen in the shop every now and then, and there are few Krissie and Glacial really like. These are the ones that will be shop staples and happen rather randomly.

Event Type Number One
Musical Death Chairs

Baiscally like a Raffle. Only in Reverse. Usually there will be a set limit to the tickets you can pruchase/claim (sometimes this will be free, sometimes not). When all slots have been claimed, either Krissie or Glacial will start drawing random numbers between 1 and whatever. If your number is drawn, you do not win. You are out of the game.
Basically, the last wo/man standing is the winner. That is if your number has not been drawn by the time everyone else is eliminated.
If by some freak chance there is no clear winner, we'll start it all over again.

Type One Rules
~ First and foremost, no whining, complaining, or generally causing s**t if you do not win this.
~ If the slots cost something, a trade must be sent with the specified amount before your slots will be claimed.
~If the pet is not claimed/paid for within a day, the runner up will be given the pet.

Breeding occurs between two adult Jourmung, usually of opposite sex (However, there have been some documented cases of same-sex Jourmung relationships.) Any Jourmung younger than adult may not breed. The species must also wait a set time between breedings, or risk losing the clutch of eggs. The wait period is usually one month.

Any breeding will result in two to four eggs depending mainly on the level of roleplay between the couple. Any pair may breed, Jourmung do not necessarily have 'mates'. As an artificially created species, they instinctually interbreed to have the most genetically superior babies they can.

Breeding will cost 12k as a base price, breeding a rare may cost more.
