Look at the words in bold. See a recurring trend? The majority of 4Kids' titles have been made for, and about, young children. Not 16-year-olds like you. They're made for kids.

no they were not made for kids-- well in Japan they were. but thats different (cultural boundaries) 4kids have dumbed everything down. I dont recall if Yugio is done by 4kids, but in Japan, Joey spilled gasoline on a guy and lit him on fire. In the japanese version of pokemon, Ash is held at gun point. THESE THINGS SHOULD NOT HAPPEN TO AN ANIME!

Most people don't mind when these things happen to European animation because "OMG dey not GOD of animatons".

Well, you do make a good point, but I just wish that One Piece would've gone to a company like Funimation or Viz.

Wish all you want. It won't change anything.

Hopefully they'll make a time machine so that I CAN change it.

Your kidding right?

What? A guy can dream, right?

These people are the kind that act like a booster shot is the same thing as a blood transfusion. I wanna just see Naruto come out in America so it gets more publicity so the minds behind it can get more money to create more stuff. "Oh no...we're gonna miss a few precious seconds...darn." stare All of the stuff people cut out is because it's not relevant to the plot, or because the kiddies watching it may get some bad ideas. (*cough* Look at what the show Jackass did.)

Yes, but if you're influenced by Jackass, you weren't too bright to begin with. Meaning if things are dumbed down, then teens think they can do things on Jackass, Viva La Bam, and Wildboys and not get hurt.

And I don't care for minor editting, as long as the plot isn't affected in the long run.
I'm not saying it's not the kid's fault, but I'm not going to just promote violence to youth. I mean...is it SO relevant in Pokemon to have Ash held up at gunpoint?
Yes because he'll forget it next episode anyway... and it makes it funnier and parents will actually watch it with their kids like they're suppossed to!
If cartoons were approriate, adults wouldn't HAVE to watch stuff with their kids. My dad left me home alone a lot, so I watched TV. Besides, I don't have anything against someone having a gun in Pokemon...but is it SO IMPORTANT to have a gun? or the fact Ash was being held hostage?

One Piece (1999) - Enter Monkey D. Luffy, a boy endowed with the strange ability to stretch his limbs. Along with his friends, he searches for the treasure One Piece, to prove once and for all he can become king of the pirates.

I'm not exactly sure if anybody has mentioned this before, but Luffy is actually 17 years-of age. sweatdrop
In fact, most of the cast in One Piece are relatively older characters.
The oldest, in the crew, being Robin who is 28. xp

And as of that matter, many characters in Naruto are also perceived as older characters.

Correction here, 4Kid's does not make these series. They just edit it to a degree were it's perceived as "TV Y7" and alright to be shown during Saturday morning cartoons. If you leave the series as is, I'm relatively sure, in American standards, it would be at least rated "PG," or more likely "TV 14." If you really must argue whether or not these series are intended for children or teenagers, you'll have to go into a whole cultural studies aspect.
And thus, you'll have to compare what is accepted as children programming in Japan and what is considered more of an teenage/adult program. I'll take for example, Adult Swim's Case Closed and the Japanese version, Meitantei/Detective Conan. Meitantei Conan, in the eyes of Japanese standards, would be considered more of a children's series, usually playing during the afternoon. Yet, here, it is perceived as a series intended for teenagers or even adults, which (a couple months back) ran late night on Adult Swim.
Edit out all the blood and the killing spree in general, and I'm sure Case Closed would make it pass the FCC too. Of course it wouldn't be the same Detective Conan, but, hey! It's "TV Y7," who cares if the storyline is totally out of synch! The same also goes for Inuyasha in a sort of way. In Japan, it is also viewed as more of a series for children/teenagers. And so is Naruto. Prince of Tennis. And I don't think I should need to go on. But even so, in Japan's eyes, though the intended audience might be for children, it brings together a large degree of fans from a wide range of audiences. In fact, if you've ever been to Japan, you'll still often seen grown middle-aged men sitting in the train station reading a manga. Cartoons and comics aren't JUST for kids anymore. Go to a comic convention, and tell me wrong. Comics such as Batman, Superman, X-Men, and various other comics and graphic novels are now so immersed in the American culture. And why is Hollywood, again and again, making these series into live action films? It's definitely the cultural aspect you have to look at here. And even here in the U.S., this stream of thought is gradually reforming . . .

The general thing concerning series such as One Piece and Naruto is that there are more "adult themes" going on. I will take One Piece as a prime example. I've only seen some of what 4Kid's has done with One Piece, and I will admit, it is terrible . . . From Sanji's edited lollipop to the completely new musical score, it's the equivalent to pissing on Eiichiro Oda's work! If One Piece was really intended "4 Kids" here in the US, 4Kids wouldn't have to edit so many things out. It goes into our preception of what is intended for children and what is not. If One Piece holds true to it's original, in the US, it would definitely be considered more for teenagers.
After all, you have the cunning Captain Kuro who killed Kaya's father and intended to take the family fortune. Then there's the even more complicated Arlong Park Arc, of which goes into Nami's past and Bellemere's death. Excessive amounts of cursing from Zoro and Sanji. Then there's also Sanji's trademark habbit of smoking. Let's not forget the quarts of blood that Luffy and Zoro keep loosing.
I mean, if there's so much "violence" and "adult situations" occuring in the original One Piece, in the eyes of parents in the US, how would Naruto look?

But, then again, Naruto will most likely be treated as Inuyasha has been treated on Cartoon Network. It will be directed at the teenage and adult audience. I doubt it will be as bad as people are suspecting . . . I mean, I've seen all of Full Metal Alchemist in Japanese and intend to do so with the English version. How it was dubbed does not affect the storlyine whatsoever because Funimation actually did a relatively good job with this. The English voices sound relatively similar to the Japanese cast (except for Envy, I'll admit.) Little to no editting; the cursing is still there, the blood is still there, and, you know what, the musical score is there as well.

So, generally, the bigger picture here isn't "who is the target audience," but rather what's happening with the American cartoon industry. Why are there so many more anime series being dubbed?
It's more of a cultural aspect in that many American series start becoming cliche, and the every changing every growing anime industry in Japan fulfills this sort of change.
And, by changing the original series, American companies are just trying to revert back to their conformist ideas that this is the moralisitc standards by which they want to shape children, rather than developing their minds with real stories.

If you're saying Ash will forget it by the next episode, then yes that's true. If you're saying the child will forget it by the next episode, you're wrong. Some children can remember almost every detail of their favourite shows, and they would remember Ash being held at gunpoint.
And parent's are busy, they shouldn't have to sit down with their child and watch the show with them to make sure it's appropriate.
Yes, I was refering to Ash.

Hey, it's not the job of a show to teach children what is right and wrong. It's the parent's job.
Let EVERYONE be loved heart

Like I said, parents are busy, and they shouldn't have to sit there with their child and watch every show with them. That takes time out of their busy schedual, and makes the child uncomfortable. Parents are trusting that the people who have brought the show over, can make it suitable for their children to watch, so that they don't have to watch it with them. It's a little to late to tell your kid what's right and what's wrong once they have brought a gun to school.
Why make parents sit down and watch with them, so that they can tell their child "Guns are bad", when the entire situation can be avoided?

Clean Genius

That does make sense...I don't normally go on and on about "dissin'" 4Kids, but sometimes I do feel a little disappointed, like when I read the manga or something and wanted to see the anime done...umm...not 4Kids.

Oh well. I'm coping, there's plenty of other anime to watch.
