INTRODUCTION

Welcome students to Spektral Academy for the Gifted. We are glad to have you and hope your stay here proves satisfactory. Here on the islands, you will be expected to live and learn accordingly. Please follow all our school rules and DO NOT under any circumstances wander off into The Forest. Instead, there are many other places on campus for students to visit. Besides the Academic District, the Remang Islands are host to a full community of welcoming natives. During your stay here there will be regular visits during free hours during the week for students to visit the local towns for shopping, fun and time away from their studies. For these tips students will ride a bus down with a chaperone and a map detailing the parts of the town they may travel. Please follow the maps accordingly as it is most respectful to the locals.

SETTING

Spektral is located on the main island of the Remang Islands, a group of floating islands positioned above the Pacific Ocean. It is a majestic campus that spreads across much of the biggest island. The campus is divided into Four Divisions: The High School, College, Administrative and Residential. Outside the campus walls is a small local village called Tiir'den. Under a faculty chaperon, students are permitted to visit this and a few other villages on the surrounding islands. Though there are a few exceptions.
PLOT

Currently at Spektral, you'll find the students hard at work, going through the middle of their school year. Life is calm and uneventful so feel free to enjoy the peace, make new friends, catch up with old ones and for Gods sake, do your homework!

Updates will be given as the plot develops. Keep an eye out here for what's current and what's already happened!

  • Add ":{D <-- Mustache smiley" somewhere in your profile so we know you read these rules. Preferablly at the beginning or the end, you know. So we don't have to play "Where is Waldo with the smiley.
  • Send all profiles to ____________.

t w o: Arcane Knowledge: Holds a vast amount of arcane knowledge, allowing her to be extremely adept with most kinds of magic.
t h r e e: Healing Light: Has the ability to harness the benevolent powers of light and healing. She uses it to aid those in need be it from minor cuts, deadly poisons or even bringing back people from the edge of death itself. ((Note: However the more severe the injury she has to heal, the greater the toll it takes on her and the longer it will take for her to recover her strength before using it again.))
f o u r: Sunlight makes her quite drowsy and if she's out in the sun too long she is likely to faint, she also has a weakness to fire and if things are too hot then she becomes weakened as well as suffering heatstroke easily if she's not careful.
f i v e: She has been known to suffer from blood lust at times so when she comes into contact with the scent or sight of it she will likely leave the area to stop her hunger or she may try to drink the blood of others around her and cause them harm.
s i x: She has a racial weakness that consists of Gold Illness, causing burning upon contact with the precious metal or illness if she is subjected to exposure to large or copious amounts for extended periods of time, this is akin to the Vampire and Werewolf aversion to Silver and the Fae's aversion towards Iron. Other than these, she has the typical human weaknesses.

                            W E A P O N SxxO FxxC H O I C E:
p o w e r: Kartia/Luna Tears: The ability to use magical cards or orbs made of enspelled crystal for various things from simple spells to summoning.
p o w e r: Alter Mode: A pair of strange creatures that Sakura had made, almost like a pair of pet's or familiar to her.
l i m i t: Unable to mass produce these as it takes a lot of time and energy to create them. The effects must be specific in what they do for each card or orb to be of any use. To use the wielder must apply blood to the object in order to activate the effect, this is easier with the card design as the sides are razor sharp, unlike the orb design.
l i m i t: Yin and Yang will follow Sakura's body movements, slamming into the bodies of her foe's or altering their shape slightly to become a pair of blades she can command to strike using hand and body motions.
w e a k: Using this ability she is able to create cards or orbs for others to use, this skill however does have it's limits and is not as powerful as her own magical abilities and the effects only last for a limited amount of time. The creation of several cards for use can take a harsh toll on her body, her current limit is 5 cards or orbs at a time being created. They can however be used by anyone that knows what what each card or orb is enspelled to do as well as how to activate them.

In truth if you manage to scratch the surface of this woman then you will see what lays beneath, hidden from those around her. She is actually quite impish, overemotional, timid, temperamental and a bit of a seducer at times.

She tends to appear in strange places or times without drawing much attention to herself, sometimes the only trace of her being in a place is a small scattering of crystals, flower petals or feathers that remain where she was standing. Due to her strange appearances she has gained many a rumor as to who and what she is, when asked she often just gives a kind and mysterious smile before she turns and walks away. Just as there are many rumors about her there are also many different opinions as to her demeanor. Some people report their encounter with her as quite pleasant, others say she is harsh and cruel.
f i v e: Sakura has been working on creating an ability she calls 'Alter Mode' which will allow her to alter her appearance slightly to augment a selection of her abilities into two groups, allowing her to aid others in combat or boost her ability with medical needs.

ACT I:
Welcome to Spektral Academy!!!

"BOOM!!!!!"

"AFTER 'EM!!!"

Josh Johnson was being chased by the police. Having been blamed for the deaths of his parents, blamed because of the powers that were bestowed upon him by the drugs and his meth addicted parent's 'experiments', the whole entire of Madison Ave. and Jackson Street were ablaze in a five alarm fire that required the assistance of every fire department in the area. It was violently spreading.

Josh was crying as he ran. Ten years old and now the subject of a wanted criminal, he had lead a life of sheer misery from the first day of birth. His powers were mystifying even to him, and yet he had no idea why he was made the way he was. The other kids bullied him relentlessly and without mercy. It was hell.

Josh was an outcast. If people didn't bully him, they were freaked out at some of the things he could do. He had tested at a 'Genius' level while in school, and he constantly heard voices in his head. From sounds of the Hallelujah chorus from Handel's "Messiah" to his teacher's love affairs, they were all mixed up in this blender of hash that was in his mind. These voices told him the answers to his tests, they told him the information that their teacher's couldn't teach (Yes, there was plenty of info. like that around).

Even now, he knew they were closely gaining on him.

"Hey boy, follow me." said a voice inside his head.

The chase continued onward.

He concentrated hard.

"God is that you? If so, why this would be a fine time to help me out."

It hurt his mind to talk back to this voice, especially since he still wasn't sure how he was doing it.
The voice that responded was chuckling.

"Not necessary so Josh. Run into the next alleyway you see, then scale then pause for three seconds and lean against the wall."

"Won't they find me?"

"Have faith Josh. Tonight, I play the role of your guardian angel." spoke the voice, in a confident and determined voice.

"Now you know you're going looney tunes Josh." he thought."If this is wrong, then you know you'll be going downtown for a real loonnng time."

Josh took the alleyway, and leaned against the wall. A black gloved hand grabbed him, and literally pulled him through a closed warehouse door. The police ran up against the corridor, but missed him as if they had not seen him at all. Josh watched their movements through the frosted glass.

Josh had missed them.

"FIND HIM!!! HE COULDN'T'VE GOTTEN FAR!!!!"
yelled the Police Captain.

"Give me one good reason, not to throw you to the a*****e pigs outside!" yelled Josh to the stranger before him.

"Well, I did save you from getting caught, didn't I?" spoke the stranger.

"I'm still not trusting you." spoke Josh. "Even if you did save me."

"And I know that you didn't cause that explosion either."

"How do you know that?" he asked.

"Your parent's died in that explosion. I detect no sense of life from that building. You're the only one that did survive. They will never be able to not prove that it wasn't you either Josh. Right now, you're a wanted felon. The sad news is, is that you cannot return to your old way of life. But I cordially invite you to live a new life."

"Who are you?" he asked, with a bit of fury in his voice.

"Me? I am Allen Masterson. An entrepreneur, a writer, and the epitome of philanthropist to the general public. But when the night comes falling, I am also the headmaster of an elite and private academy that caters to the tastes and abilities of students with abilities such as yours. All that I'm asking right now is, are you looking to lead a better life and a way to have control over the abilities that you possess?"

Josh nodded.

"I want to help you live the life of your dreams. I know you have one. I don't care how goofy you think it is. I'm here to help you with it. All that I ask is that you trust me on this. I have your back."

"And how do we get there?" he asked, already suspecting that he was full of himself.

Masterson waived his hand and a concealed hand crank switch on the wall flipped down.

"Did that switch-" he thought. Even though he had wondered what this place was, and was about to ask, the situation never sought itself.

Masterson nodded, and just like that, the dingy little boy and the headmaster vanished into green mist.

-----------------0-------------------

In an instantaneous movement, they found themselves in an aircraft sized hanger.

"Welcome to Spektral Academy Josh!!!" he said.

Present Day

Josh Johnson was under a new identity. He had found himself thinking of that faithful day five years ago. It was amazing how much time had flown already. Allen had given him a place to live since then. There was nothing that he had going in, and yes he had been denied the right to a normal childhood, but there were always ways around that.

To pay for his permanent room and board while he studied, he was given the job of an assistant groundskeeper. It was hard work, but it was like training in a way also. Josh also was a key carrier. He was fifteen years old and he had been taught the responsibilities of a diligent adult.

He was laying on his bed. Today was his off day, and all he could do was meditate on all the time that had gone by, since that day that Allen had saved him.

Amaranth Nightshade, a senior at Spektral academy, was walking up the flights of stairs to the top floor with great determination and frustration flowing through her. She had a small yellow slip of paper in one of her hands, which was the source of her current bout of annoyance.

Without knocking or calling through the door, Amy flung the headmaster's door open and strode right through. As she walked toward Allen's desk, she caused the door to shut behind her by controlling the energy particles inside of it. She did the same with the yellow piece of paper in her hand when she flung it toward the desk. She directed it to land on the center of Allen's desk.

While the piece of paper was flying over to the desk, Amy angrily walked over to the couch in the office and flopped down on it. She scowled at the piece of paper as soon as it landed on the desk. It was a detention slip from her Telekinesis class.

"I am NOT going to work with another group of students again, Allen. And I am NOT going to serve another detention because of it. How many times do I have to tell that teacher that I do not work well in groups?! We hardly ever were paired or grouped up at Daedalus. As was one of our motto's, 'you either sank or swam on your own,'. I don't do well with groups of people, Allen, you know that!"

She may have hated nearly everything about her old academy, but being able to be solitary in nearly ever aspect of her life wasn't one of them.

Amy had come from a fellow magical academy called Daedalus. It was a very high-brow school that only promoted excellence. If you failed to live up to that expectation, you were kicked out. There were no 'average' students at Daedalus.

Amy had absolutely hated it there, and a big reason for her hatred was due to the fact that her father was the headmaster of that school and her vicious older sister was basically his right-hand woman. Her entire family was known for taking advantage of the 'little man'. They used their powers and influence to try and get anything they wanted. Since her family had the power to control energy particles and everything is made up of energy, her family was quite powerful in the pecking order of the magical world. However, their greatest asset was also their greatest weakness. Too much energy around the Nightshades weakened them severely. Having too much energy around them could overwhelm their bodies, senses, and render them basically useless. If enough energy was used, a member of the family could even die. The amount of energy it would take to kill one of them from energy exposure alone was astronomical, though. It was hard to come by that amount of energy. However, it was not difficult to come by a couple of large generators and weaken them enough to attack. A lot of electrical appliances all in an enclosed area could weaken them, too.

Amy's family was very close, and each member looked out for the other. Well, that was until Amy came along. Amy hadn't exactly liked using her powers to hurt people or take advantage of them. She also hadn't liked being at Daedalus academy because the entire school was filled with rich, arrogant snobs that would just as soon kill you as look at you. She had hated the environment of both her family and the academy. Her father was ashamed of her and he had given Amy sister, Camilla, the responsibility of 'looking after' Amy. To her sister, that meant keeping Amy in Daedalus and not allowing her to leave the grounds... ever. Amy went to classes and tutoring sessions, but that was about it. Also, if Amy ever got in trouble with one of her teachers for mouthing off or for getting a low grade, Camilla would take her to one of the towers they had at the academy and punish Amy. The punishment usually involved whipping, beating, and/or emotionally abuse. Oftentimes, her sister would yell at her about how much she hated having to look after Amy because she was such a screw up and couldn't get anything right. She hated the responsibility of taking care of Amy, but she would not let their father or family down. She would become a respectable member of the family. Sometimes, however, Camilla would just throw Amy in one of the dungeons and leave her there for hours with no sunlight or fresh air.

It was in this dungeon where she had met Allen Masterson for the first time. It had been during this past summer when professors and headmasters from fellow magical schools visited each other's schools to learn of the various techniques and strategies that were being implemented to see if anything new and successful could be added to their own curriculum. Most of the teachers and headmasters didn't stay at Daedalus for very long when it was Daedalus' turn to host. They usually got a quick tour of the building and an overview of the classes that were offered, and that was it. Daedalus didn't exactly exude warmth or friendliness. Of course all of Daedalus' staff and faculty were proper and did everything that was expected of a host, but their actions lacked sincerity. It was as if they were just going through the motions.

Allen had broken away from the tour of the building and gone down to the dungeons when he found Amy. Maybe he had sensed a life form down there and that's why he had gone down there. The dungeons were never a part of the regular tour. Amy had never asked him why he had gone down there in the first place, though. She didn't like to talk about that time, so she didn't ask.

She also didn't ask how Allen had persuaded her father to let her leave Daedalus and come to Spektral. All she knew was that after she had met Allen down in the dungeon and he had left for a brief amount of time. Then, he had come back about an hour later with the dungeon's key. He had let her out and said that her father had given him permission to take her to Spektral Academy for good. She had heard of Spektral Academy and had obviously heard of Allen Masterson. Many Daedalus students made fun of Spektral because they heard it was a nurturing environment and that they took in almost any magical creature. Of course, Daedalus students didn't exactly talk fondly about any school but their own.

Amy didn't care what Spektral was like. It had to be better than Daedalus, so she agreed to go with Allen. She had stayed with him at Spektral for the summer months since she didn't have any place else to go. Spektral was closed during the summer months, so there hadn't been any other students around except for the college students that stayed there to take extra classes. They were so busy with school and jobs, though, that they hardly noticed Amy's presence.

Amy had been very cautious of Allen at first. She naturally didn't trust anybody, especially a man in a headmaster's position. However, Allen made it nearly impossible for Amy to not open up to him. She had gone to his office the first few days she had been at Spektral to learn about the layout and what she could do around the place. First, the absolute freedom she found out that she'd have here was new and surreal to her. It appealed to her greatly. However, it was Allen's incessant friendliness that broke through her wall the most. Even when she would sit in a chair with her arms crossed and not saying anything, Allen would continue to talk as if she were a chatty and sunny individual. She couldn't seem to make him angry or upset at her. It was odd. She had always pissed people off, but she couldn't seem to get Allen angry at her no matter what she did.

Eventually, Amy started to come up to Allen's office more and more frequently, even if she hadn't been summoned. She even fell asleep on the couch in the office a couple of times instead of going to her room to sleep.

She had grown close to Allen and discovered that she actually enjoyed his company. He was fun, nice and funny. He was also very smart. He thought of things in a way that Amy never had before. He challenged her view on life, and she loved being challenged in this manner.

However, she found adjusting to Spektral quite difficult when all the students came back and classes began. That's what led her to be in Allen's office now discussing one of many detention slips.

The Unknown Shadow
Masterson only gazed at her listening intently to what she had to say. He had his feet on the edge of the desk, and his fingers interlaced within each other.

"Yes Amy, I am aware of the fact that you presently do not work well in groups." he said. "But I am also aware of the handling's of how business is performed at your academy too. I felt what you have, and at one point, I also felt that I could handle it all like some superhuman being. But, that's that how it's done here. Here's what I have found: You feel upset of working in groups, because you have not been exposed to the environment of having friends to back you up, nor people that you could trust. This caused you to develop a subconscious fear to working in said groups. Part of it is because you have never surrounded yourself with good quality people who are willing to help you achieve what it is that you're trying to go for. You've been so used to living like an impoverished hermit, that you have forgotten what it feels like to be with someone. You have, to put it blunt, been deprived of the basic necessities of existence, when I found you down there in that prison that one day. You have forgotten what it feels like to be in someone's heart the way that they are in yours. To love someone, whether that person be a friend or, perhaps something more.

"You have developed this fear that you'll be setting yourself up for rejection and betrayal if you open your heart even once and work with someone to help achieve their goals on the projects or assignment's given. I want you to overcome all your fear, but especially these ones I am mentioning now. Since fear is just an illusion. It is what we use when our bodies do not understand the right way to feel around certain things, whether they will bring harm or good into our lives.

"I made this work difficult enough to where one person alone would find it next to impossible to obtain it, and customized it to their overall level of skill. However, in partnered with the right people, s/he will find it much easier, since the overall team will help to fill in the gaps where the one person is lacking. This builds character, and leadership skills, while teaching the people involved in the project/assignment, the lessons that they need to know.

"But, If you ever want to get strong enough to take on your family, you will have to form a team of your own Amy. Because when your family get's serious, even your family will operate as a unit. As a team."

As he said these last words, he was peering at Amy over his spectacles.

When Allen was speaking about what she had been exposed to in Deadalus, and when he touched upon the day that he found her, Amy shrunk back a little in the couch and crossed her arms in front of her chest. She fixed her eyes on a random spot on the carpet and stared at it. She was trying to look like she didn't care about anything that had happened to her. She was trying to look like it hadn't affected her the way Allen was saying it had. If she didn't think about it, then how could it affect her? If she just kept focusing on what was in front of her and moving forward, then how could what had happened to her in the past affect her now. What Allen was saying was making too much sense and was touching too close to home. If she admitted that what had happened to her had affected her, then she would also be admitting to being weak. If she was ever weak, her sister would beat her until she thought she had knocked the weakness right out of her. Nightshades were not weak. Nightshades did not give into pressure. They took the strength from others and fed on it, so they could never and would never be weak. Emotions were for the simple people. If you let your emotions affect you, then others would take advantage of you and take what was yours.

When Allen was done talking, Amy sat there for a few moments in silence before she cleared her throat and stood up from the couch. She went behind Allen's desk, leaned over slightly, and started digging into his top right drawer. She quickly found what she had been looking for. When she straightened back up, she had a wrapped brownie bar in her hand. She closed the drawer and then leaned back against the edge of the desk.

"Strong enough to take on my family? Yeah, that won't ever happen. I have no desire to, either. In fact, I don't like to think much about them period. So, why don't we change the subject? You drop the detention and I'll straighten out these piles of papers on your desk since I know how much you hate to do it. Sound like a deal?"

Amy unwrapped the bar and took a bite.

The Unknown Shadow
Masterson sighed. It wasn't a pointless talk, but he knew sooner or later, Amy would have to confront her past. She'd have to face the things that drove her crazy and made her feel fear. Sooner or later, it would happen. Fate had a weird, sick twist of humor that worked out that way.

"Outside." he simply said.

Once outside, Masterson lead her to an eight story sized boulder. It was made of mountain granite, and about two football fields in width.

"I want you to concentrate on the energy particles of that boulder in front of us. If you can lift that thirty ton boulder above your head with your mind by yourself for three minutes WITHOUT showing any struggle or emotional pain, I'll lift the detention. I use this boulder as a warm up for my daily training, and to get it in by human means, would require the usage of ten skycranes.

"So far, three minutes and twenty-two seconds is my best time with my own psychokinetic abilities, and I can get it as high into the air as twenty feet. Back when I was starting out, it was willing a bit of hard candy. It's taken me a long time to work to this level, but it can be done. It's far easier when you have someone backing you up. But you can only use your energy particles or mental energy, same source. You will be allowed up to three people to assist you if you find that you cannot do it, or that your brain starts to hemorrhage from trying to mentally lift something this heavy. Care to try it?"

Cuwen
Amy was about to lift the brownie bar to her mouth for another bite when Allen simply said 'Outside'. She looked at him in confusion, and then he grabbed her free hand and they teleported outside, leaving Amy's bar behind. It fell to the ground where she had been standing moments ago and left Amy to cry out into the void, "Hey! My bar!"

Once they were outside, Allen led her to a gigantic boulder. She arched an eyebrow in question at him and then listened to what he had to say.

When Allen said that all she had to do to make the detention go away was to lift the huge boulder above her head for three minutes, her eyes went huge and she looked at Allen as if he had lost his mind. Her eyes went even wider when he said he could do it himself now but had worked up to it. Oh, she understood what he was trying to teach her about teamwork. He wasn't exactly being subtle, and he probably wasn't even trying to be.

Amy turned her attention back to the boulder and squared her shoulders. She could do this. All it took was sheer willpower and strength. If she couldn't do this, then she was weak and deserved a detention.

Amy breathed out a slow breath and then began concentrating on the boulder. A few moments later, a low rumbling could be heard as well as the sound of smaller rocks falling off of the boulder. The boulder started to tip back and forth slightly. Then, very, very slowly, the boulder started to lift.

It wasn't a quick movement, but eventually, Amy had the boulder about waist high in front of her. Her eyes were squinted, though, and she was starting to shake slightly. Perspiration was starting to bead along her forehead. The boulder started to go higher, but suddenly Amy gasped out, the boulder fell back down with a loud crash, and Amy fell backwards in a seated position on the ground. Her hands were braced behind her, she was breathing heavily, and a small trickle of blood was present just under her nose.

"I... I... I get it, okay? But I can work on it just like you for awhile and eventually get it to go in the air, too. You said you got to the point where you can do it without help. Oh my head...."

She reached one of her hands up and gripped the side of her head in pain.

"Welcome to the holy ground,
It's not what you're thinking.

                  Foxxenne and Taddie's Freshman Year

“Hey Foxx.” The girl named Taddie tapped Foxxenne’s forehead with a fry.

“What?” Foxx didn’t look up, she was intently focused on something she was reading and seemed reluctant to be pulled away from it.

“Want to start a club? It’d be fun right?” The other girl, Teodora Danao was a chipper girl from a very big but very poor family. Somehow though, this girl never seemed worried about financial troubles and didn’t seem especially frugal with her spending. She was the type of person who was almost always interested in what everyone else was doing or if no one was doing anything interesting, she was making interesting things to do. Her “fun stuff” usually ended in someone getting in trouble. Her bright and sunny attitude stood in contrast to Foxxenne’s almost perpetual serious calm and the girl's quiet air of disinterest.

“Taddie, you’re being impractical. Just join one. There’s pretty much a club for everything on this campus.” At the sound of her friend’s distracted tone, Taddie smacked a hand down on Foxxenne’s book and frowned. Sighing, Foxx looked up.

“No…” The girl removed her hand to cross her arms thoughtfully the french-fry she’d been holding in her hand, forgotten. “But I'm bored. We learn stuff, but we’re not allowed to use any of it at all. I’m bored. Please start it with me?”

“No. You’re plan is half-baked. Besides, it sounds like you’re planning to use it for that fetish of yours.” Foxx went back to her reading, but after a moment of silence passed, she looked up at Taddie accusingly. “What the heck Taddie! It is another fetish venture!”

“Shhhh! Don’t call it that darn it.” Taddie threw the fry at Foxx and crossed her arms again. “You have to admit though… It’d be cool.”

“Friggin’ hell Taddie, it’s against school rules to go around doing that all willy nilly. Plus! Your powers would do you no good in an actual fight. I mean really! It does you no good in school either!” Foxx had completely abandoned her book now. Her hands gestured wildly, a bad habit that happened when she got too excited or upset. A habit, that was making the students around her nervous because it was her moods and gestures that tended to set off her other abilities.

“Calm down dammit!” Taddie threw another fry at her friend who retaliated by throwing it back at her. “Anyway, you break the rules every day! One in particular, but still!” The fact seemed to give Foxxenne some pause. “Besides, we can just make up a cover theme for the club. Who knows, maybe it’ll help your silly ‘on-campus black market’ thin that you’ve got going.”

Foxx stared at her friend for a while before she gave up trying and decided that agreeing with her might be easier in the long run. “Alright. But you better study properly for this. We can’t have you becoming a ‘damsel in distress’ instead of a ‘hero’ like you plan to be."

“Great!” Taddie squealed happily and produced a small stack of papers. “I’ve already gotten some people interested and here’s our cover theme for the club. We just need an advisor.”

“I thought you said we didn’t have a cover theme.” Foxx said, squinting at the girl skeptically.

“I lied. Though I don’t think it’s that great of a cover theme to tell you the truth.” Taddie responded with a shrug as she flipped through the pages she’d taken out.

“Well, I’m glad you’re prepared this time…” Foxx said sarcastically as she picked up her pen again and continued her work for a moment before adding, “Also, I’ve got the perfect person for the job. We’ll take care of it after school. So what’s the cover theme for this club?”

"Well, since you tend to do just about anything drawing or craft related already I was going to take advantage of that. Since between the two of us and the others I’ve chosen for the club we cover just about every possible creative activity out there,” Taddie strugged when Foxx glanced up from her paper and looked at her blankly, “We could be a Hobby Club. It’ll work right? With a little convincing?”

Foxxenne just stared back at her friend and didn’t say anything.

                  Current Day

Foxxenne sat at the back of the room in her World History class. She understood that she should care just a little bit more about all this, but she couldn’t bring herself to. Altier Caaes was an interesting place where in some cities the eras seems to mesh together in the most messy and disorganized way that she found so fascinating and beautiful. But this place of short lived humans just depressed her. But history depressed her in general. If you looked closely, you started to see plain, boring circles of repeated mistakes and constant prejudice. In so predictable a world, why would one want to know history? She sighed as she doodled in the margins of her worksheet just to look busy.

Speaking of history, she considered her own as well as that of Taddie. She'd met the other girl sometime after she'd moved to the school. Foxx hadn't been in much condition for talking, but Taddie had merely talked constantly while Foxx waited for her broken jaw and other bones to heal. Foxxenne hadn't arrived at Spektral under the best of situations and if it weren't for Taddie and the Matron, she'd have left as soon as she was well again, but the woman, with a warning from Taddie had done something weird to her powers, restricting them and thus holding her there for the time being. For her own good. They'd said. She'd thank them later. They'd said. Even if she did, that didn't mean she'd be all happy and thankful before that. So she attended classes.

Foxxenne still wasn't sure what Taddie's deal was. What had brought her to the school. All of the students and faculty seemed to have a story. It must be hard for them. Being so different that they're hunted. She wasn't exactly a stranger to it, but she at least recoginized a difference her her situation to everyone else. She had an entire nation waiting for her return. Some of them didn't even have familys. She may not have been happy about her current stranded predicament, but she knew when to keep her mouth shut and just do what was expected of her.

Taddie was human. She'd live a much shorter life and it would seem to her that her friend never aged while she herself did. Foxxenne fidgeted with her charm bracelet, the many gold, silver and copper charms that hung on it rattled noisily on her desk drawing a glare from her teacher, she put her hands in her lap in a purposely bashful way as she gave the teacher a nod of respect and the lesson continued. Meanwhile, she thought about the charms on the bracelet. The chain itself as well as the charms were each specially designed to restrict her powers. She'd been surprised the Matron had known anything about it. The woman had seemed perfectly human when Foxx had met her, but apparently the opposite was true. Though not as pure-blooded as Foxx, the Matron was of the same species as her and so, knew the laws and techniques.

It was the Matron who'd added the single red gem on her bracelet that stopped Lairena from taking it off. She could still remove the other charms, but the red gem and chain could only be removed by the Matron herself. The girl sighed and lifted her pen to continue doodling again and waited for class to end.

After class, Foxxenne met Taddie outside in the hall, the girl had a ridiculous grin on her face. "What?" She asked her.

"Nothing. Let's go visit the High School. Let's see if the Hobby Club is still alive this year." Taddie said cryptically. Foxxenne merely shook her head and followed the other girl.

"You're too happy for first thing in the morning." She said, Foxxenne's elation for the year had already been spent. She'd started the year in a good mood, telling herself, "Half-way to freedom." But already, she was tired of sitting through classes and antsy to get out and go searching for her family, friends and allies. In her four years under the Matron's care, she'd still not heard anything of the rest of her kind.

"Should I help you off that ledge?
Down into that pathetic void of ignorant self-pity?
Let me burn this broken, hellish LOVE of yours."

The Unknown Shadow
"We'll take a quick break." he said, checking Amy for internal brain damage. But outside of the external injuries, she thankfully had little.

Golden colored energy pulsated from his hands in bands as he waved his hands slowly up and down over Amy's head. In what felt like a temple massage, but from internally, he massaged her brain and then stopped.

"That was a good attempt. You actually did better than what I was expecting. Now, let's try it again, but this time I will help you."

Cuwen
Amy let out a loud, relaxed sigh and flopped completely backward on the ground as she felt a soothing massaging sensation in her mind. It was like bathing in a hot tub surrounded by magical golden light. A soft smile even appeared on her face, and that hardly ever happened.

When Allen mentioned trying it again, Amy sighed in frustration. She didn't want the sensation she was currently experiencing to stop. But it stopped anyway, so Amy looked up at Allen and then finally stood up. She brushed off the back of her jeans and faced the boulder again.

"Alright... But I don't want my nose to bleed again. If we do this, do I get out of the detention?"

She focused her mind on the boulder once more and cautiously tried to lift the boulder again. She was a little nervous to do it now since she had hurt herself before.

The Unknown Shadow
"Fight through it Amy." he said, and sensing that she was trying it again and struggling, he added his strength to hers and a sudden flood of energy came from his mind. It was powerful enough to cause roller coaster queasiness to an energy sensitive group. The boulder rose an additional twenty feet higher, and started to levitate to the left as if it were flying on it's own. It was in the air for more than ten minutes and they had moved it away to reveal soft muddy ground and various bugs and other crawlies.

Then, they together set the boulder down.

"As far as I'm concerned, you completed your classwork today." he said. "The detention is void, yet I don't think that there's a 'teamwork' problem here. I think that you just find a lot of people to not be playing on the same playground that you do. You find them to be more inclined to goof off and not actually do the work. You try to do it all on your own, having been used to this method, yet you'll come to realize in life, that sometimes you'll need others help to solve a task. That is why you fail. So, what can I do to help?"

They were back in his office again.

Amy had wanted to give up and just let the boulder drop again. Her brain was hurting and she felt so drained. But then, at the last moment she felt she could hold on, she felt a fresh wave of energy surround her and then fly out toward the boulder. It lifted off of the ground and then floated to the side. It was so high up!

But the amount of energy that was coming from Allen was so much. It was making her feel sick to her stomach. Her whole family was so sensitive to high amounts of energy. It was making her feel weak even though he was combining his powers with hers and making her own power stronger.

She slumped her back against Allen and tried to hold on until the boulder was set down. When it was safely on the ground again, Amy's breathing was labored and a small sheen of sweat appeared on her forehead again. There was no blood this time, though.

Amy was so thankful once they were back in Allen's office. She quickly went over to the couch and flopped back on it. She stretched out completely and her eyes closed. She felt very warm.

"Detention... is void?" Her voice was soft and tired.

"Thank you, Allen... As far as the others goofing off and all of that, I've actually met quite a few studious students so far... I just don't work well in groups... You can help... by... staying...."

Amy didn't get to finish her thought as she had already drifted off to sleep in sheer exhaustion.

Dermot Zik reclined in one of the student lounges in the college area of Spektral. He was lazing back in a plush chair waiting for his turn again in Super Mario Brothers. Dermot liked playing as Mario not because Mario was the main character but because he could shoot fireballs and fly like Dermot could. Too bad he wasn't British instead of Italian and had a flash of red hair instead of black. And if he had been tall and lanky like Dermot, they could have been twins. But still, it was fun to play as someone who had some of the same powers Dermot did.

Dermot had come to Spektral 6 years ago after he had accidentally set his school on fire, and it hadn't been just a little kitchen fire, either. He had been taking a science exam when it had happened. There had been a question on the test about how fire reacted to an absence of oxygen. Dermot had remembered reading about that in his textbook the night before, but he couldn't seem to remember what the answer was. So, he tried picturing a roaring flame in his mind that was put in a vacuum-sealed room with the oxygen slowly being sucked out of the room. Suddenly, a small flicker of a flame had appeared at the corner of his test paper. Dermot had been so freaked out that he had tried to put it out himself without anyone noticing. However, in his heightened state of fear, the flame just continued to spread. It quickly got out of hand. His classmates started freaking out when they noticed it, and the teacher had remained calm while retrieving a nearby fire extinguisher. Obviously he had dealt with fires in the lab before, but never during a written exam. However, when the flames didn't go out with the extinguisher and continued to spread, then the teacher started to get nervous. He had gotten everyone out of his classroom and had then pulled the fire alarm. The fire quickly spread throughout the east section of the school. Luckily, everyone in the building had escaped without harm and the firemen were able to put out the flames. It seemed that as soon as Dermot had left the building and gotten away from the flames, the flames were able to be extinguished properly.

His entire class had been interviewed by the police and firemen with the principal present. The students that had been sitting around Dermot had all said that they had seen the fire start with him, with his exam. So, Dermot's parents had been called in to talk with the authorities as well as the principal. However, there had also been a man present that Dermot did not recognize. He was dressed in nice pants and a dress shirt. He had offered to help Dermot out by taking him to a facility that helped individuals like Dermot. His parents and everyone else agreed to it and Dermot was shipped off the next day.

It had been the best thing that had ever happened to Dermot. He had hated the idea at the time of leaving home and being punished for something he had no control over, but it had all ended for the best. Dermot had honed his powers and had absolute control over when his fires would break out. He was now a sophomore in college at Spektral Academy and was hoping he could study to become a professor here and help others like himself. Plus, he just never wanted to leave this place. This was the only place he had ever felt normal and at home.

"Blast it all, Mike! That bloody dragon is going to kill you if you don't watch it!"

A couple girls that were studying around the group of guys at the gaming console and TV giggled softly, which made Dermot smirk and wink at them.
