I like to think I'm solid stone
I need to spend my time alone
So why'd I feel you in my bones
Your hands on my soul?

♬♩♪ A surprising amount of the crowd was separating off to head towards the detention room. Just how many people had fallen foul of the rules in one day? Then again, given how ridiculously strict they'd been with him and Aimee, perhaps it oughtn't be surprising. He dropped his - already slightly dogeared - detention slip onto the front desk alongside Aimee's three.
Slumping down into the chair beside her, he glanced around at the rest of the class. He didn't know any of them, although he recognised a few faces from the classes he'd had during the day. Might be able to put names to some of them, maybe... he was always pretty slow at learning new names. He cocked his head as Aimee started mumbling, nodding wryly at the comments about needing a cup of tea.
"Ain't none to be found, believe me. That cafeteria shite ain't worth the water. Gonna have to try and pick some up this weekend, get a private stash going, if you want in on that..."
He trailed off, leaning back on his chair, resting his feet on the table and staring at the ceiling. If this was just a waiting game detention, they wouldn't find him wanting. Especially since there didn't seem to be anyone to stop them from talking. Detention could actually be fun, if this carried on, just an hour or so of chatting, maybe get to know the others here.
So when one of them turned to face him and Aimee, he glanced down from the ceiling, an easy smile on his face.
"Would you shut the hell up already? ******** you’re annoying.”
Josh blinked, taken aback by both the abruptness and the rudeness of it. Who the hell talked like that to a stranger? He reacted far more slowly than he ought to have done, just from sheer surprise - his initial reaction was that he must have misunderstood. This couldn't be the situation.
He took his legs from the table and sat forwards, opening his mouth to say something when he saw Aimee give him a placating smile, asking him silently not to cause a fuss. His eyes narrowed, not liking that at all. It was true that he didn't really know her as well as everyone probably assumed he did - he realised then in fact, that since they'd sat together in pretty much ever class, and spoke with accents which... a good three or four hundred miles separated though they were, to foreign ears probably didn't sound that dissimilar... yeah, people probably assumed they'd moved to Japan together. But even if he didn't know her that well, he knew her at least ten times better than anyone else in the school, and it rankled to hear her talked to that way.
He took a deep breath, though, and nodded. She wanted him to keep quiet so she could handle it herself? Well... alright. He could deal with that. See how she dealt with it.
... she dealt with it by apologising.
"No!" Josh slammed his palm against the tabletop, with a resounding crack. "What're you apologisin' for? What've you done? ******** all, that's what."
Josh pulled himself to his feet, his chair sliding back along the floor behind him with a piercing screech. Levelling a finger at the boy, he let rip.
"The hell d'you think you are, dicksponge? Y'don't spout that crap to a stranger, y'don't spout that crap to a lady, and you sure as eggs is sodding eggs don't spout that crap to a friend of mine. Open that trap again without bein' civil, and I'll assume you're gaping 'coz you're hungry for knuckles, y'got that?"
