The suburbs is defined within Websters dictionary as: an outlying district of a city, especially a residential one. Suburbs started cropping up in the United States following World War I, and they expanded en-masse following World War II. Families were starting, or in some cases expanding - and many people had grown tired of city life and were seeking a calmer lifestyle. This is what the suburbs offered. Many suburban towns are what can be depicted as "bedroom cities," people have residence here; meaning they live here, and sleep here... but they commute to work, typically with their place of work in the nearby city.

We lay our scene in the suburbs, in a small town in Florida known as Winter Park. Yes, I acknowledge that the name is ironic considering... well, Florida has absolutely no winter. Winter Park is a small suburban town with a moderately sized population. It's sleepy, relaxed, and is highly residential. From the center of the city, it's a little over a fifteen minute drive on the main highway until you hit the greater Orlando area. This is, of course, assuming you're driving 90 MPH on the 70 MPH highway, as everyone else does. DisneyWorld, Universal, and SeaWorld are all within a half an hour of the town, and Winter Park is known for housing some wealthy tenants, and being a very, very family oriented environment.

We focus our story on a gated community called Harrington Acres. Visitors to Harrington Acres will be greeted by two very large, elaborate looking gates. Enter a resident or guest key code, and the gates will open and you'll be allowed in. Harrington Acres has it's own private golf course just inside the entrance to the neighborhood, which residents can utilize for a small fee - and visitors can utilize for a rather pretty penny. The neighborhood then splits off into a zig-zag of various different streets. Harrington Acres is your typical Florida community, with houses lined up in a neat row that look almost one-hundred percent identical to the one next door, and to the one down the street, and to the one three blocks over. They were built typical suburban cookie-cutter style. But they're comfortable, and they're homey, and this is the place our main characters call home.

This is not a story about a hero or a heroine, this is not a story about adventure. This is a story about normal, everyday people, and their day to day lives - their work lives, their love lives, the struggle they go through to get that big promotion at work. Normal stuff.

There is a vast array of residents at Harrington Acres. They come from all walks off life, all religions, all parts of the world, all sexualities, and all beliefs. They're young, old, middle aged, and they all get along quite well.

So this is where our story starts, just a normal day... in sunny Florida.

Oh yeah, watch out for the old people. They may bite.

Note: Winter Park Florida does actually exist. No, this roleplay will not be portraying it correctly to the actual town. Harrington Acres is an entirely fictional location, do not go searching for it. You will not find it. If you do... well, I just did really good at making up a neighborhood, now didn't I?

❝ ▬ The ooc requirements are quite simple, post on a regular basis, be friendly towards one another, don't argue, keep us updated on your situation, do some plotting, have fun. The end. The requirements in the main thread are a little more difficult than that.
❝ ▬ Posts made in the main thread (aka IC) must be understandable. Essentially, they must be written in English - proper English. Please try and use correct spelling and grammar. I'm not expecting you to be perfect, but you have spell check and all those fancy online gadgets for a reason. Use them. Do not use chat speak unless your character is texting. I repeat, do not use chat speak unless your character is texting. Nothing irritates me more than having a post of really good prose being interrupted by "and Shelly wuz lyke, omg wuteva."
❝ ▬ Post length minimum is 500 words, which really isn't asking much. I can write that much in 15 minutes, and beta it in 10. So I can have a 500 word post up in 25 minutes, and it really should take you around the same time frame. You're more than welcome to write more, but I'd rather this roleplay move FAST and ACCOMPLISH something than drag and accomplish very little. I have no post length maximum, but once you get over 1.5K words in a 500 word min roleplay (with the exceptions of intro posts and posts picking up right after a time skip) you're getting to be a little bit ridiculous.
❝ ▬ Layouts should be attractive. You don't have to use photoshop or super awesome coding skills, but they should not be an eye sore. Excessive amounts of glitter, stretched / pixelated images, an abundance of icons, and size 12 text will prompt me to tell you to take a hike faster than you can say supercalifragilisticexpialidocious.

❝ ▬ This roleplay embraces a wide age range... from young kids to old folks. Certain age groups within the roleplay (teenagers, young adults, and even some adults) are prone to experimenting with things like sex, drugs, and alcohol... but just because those types of things happen, it doesn't mean I want to see them. If it happens, really, just skip over it... and try not to have it happening in excess.
❝ ▬ No descriptive sex, skip over it. I think we went over that already. No cursing every other word, that's excessive and silly. No excessive violence (ie: seriously maiming or killing anyone... very rarely do you see that besides in lifetime movies). No weird stuff that we don't want to read about, just... use your own imagination to assume what I'm talking about.
❝ ▬ No mary sues / gary lous. No god modding. No power playing. None of any of those annoying, overdone, roleplay faux pas... just please, don't. No instant romances / relationships unless it's obviously that some legitimate background has been plotted out. ❝ ▬ I am not going to be providing character outlines for you to follow by. There are no base characters, creating your character is all on you. However I do have some specifications / restrictions / requirements which I will now review.
❝ ▬ The sky is the limit with your character, you can play whatever type of character you want... from the busy single mom to the lazy and unmotivated college student. However, I must stress that I want you to make your character believable. Take the time to make your character 3D, make them come off the page... but make sure they seem like they could be a real person. Essentially, be realistic. Like, why would the church girl be getting into fights at bars? She really wouldn't, so don't try and run that past me.
❝ ▬ I am putting a lot of emphasis on this: DEVELOP . YOUR . CHARACTER. Figure out what makes them tick, what they like, what they don't like. However - one thing I'm not allowing in this thread is anything that could fall under the topic of "trigger topics." Serious (mental / physical / life threatening) illnesses, abusive backgrounds, and topics like rape / self mutilation etc will not be ones that we visit in this thread. I'm not saying that they don't happen, because they do. What I'm trying to say is that it's very difficult to accurately portray those sorts of topics, so I ban them altogether because the last thing I want is or somebody to play a character who was raped in the past... and then to have someone who is a legitimate rape victim come in and kick up a stink about how the character has offended them or something. Just trust my reasoning, don't question it, and don't try and pull that kind of stuff.
❝ ▬ Play people of diverse races and ethnicities! There are more races in the world than just caucasians and asians. There are more crayons in the box than just white and yellow! Same goes for sexualities, religions, beliefs, genders, etc.
❝ ▬ We are welcoming a pretty sizable age range in the roleplay. It's a neighborhood, slice of life roleplay... so you can literally play characters from age 2 to 92 (and beyond that). In regards to your face claims, though, try and make them suitable for the age being portrayed. Like you wouldn't use Channing Tatum for a sixteen year old, nor should you. If you're playing a college age character, they should appear to be college aged. If you're playing someone elderly, they should appear elderly. I'm not going to march out and google them and check to see if they're really the age you say they are, but if they don't look to be within the appropriate age range... just, stahp. You can age your character up a few years above their face claim, or a few years down... but nothing overly dramatic. I would really, really like it if most of the characters were at least 24 + and at the point where they're engaged / married / having kids. This is a neighborhood, where there should be families! I will accept a few houses full of roommates that are in college, or are platonic friends, but if I have eighty of those and two houses with families... we have a serious problem on our hands.
❝ ▬ Other than that, you can really use any face claims you want.... models, celebrities, internet celebrities, deviantart people... as long as they offer high quality pictures, you could use your damn next door neighbor if it pleased you! (I'd rather you didn't use your next door neighbor, they may find that to be a little bit creepy). We do, however, reserve the right to ask you to change your face claim for whatever reason. Our primary reason for asking you to change a face claim will usually because A) they don't suit the ethnicity you picked for your character or B) your face claim is emaciated / sickly looking. You won't have much luck getting high fashion models into this roleplay. Sorry.
❝ ▬ You are allowed to apply for / play as many characters as your little heart desires, just make sure you can manage the workload you take on. The ratio for this roleplay is 2 girls to every 1 boy. Thus, you can take 2 girls, but if you want a third girl than you must first take a male before you can add another female. This is to avoid having specific people within the roleplay holding a monopoly on the female characters. That's just bad.
❝ ▬ If you're playing multiple characters and you want to drop one, that is no problem! Just private message me and notify me, instead of suddenly letting that character become extremely inactive / doing absolutely nothing with them. I'm understanding, I'll not argue with you about dropping characters.

❝ ▬ So I find it just a little bit ridiculous that I have to take time to mark down rules about plotting, but if it's necessary... it's necessary, so I will do it. These are the rules about plotting.
❝ ▬ Plotting is required in this thread, you can't not plot. No, we won't force you to plot, but you'll very rapidly discover that plotting is what hinges on your success or failure within this roleplay. That is to say that this roleplay is about 85 percent character oriented, and therefore having a strong character who has strong relationships with other characters is what is going to make partaking in this roleplay fun.
❝ ▬ Plotting will take place in the ooc, though you're welcome to plot over skype or private message if you're more comfortable with that. Do not add a person on skype or private message them unless they explicitly state that they're comfortable with that. Some people don't like having their inboxes disturbed, myself included.
❝ ▬ Generally, when you initiate plotting (or better yet, respond back to plotting) it would be best to include some ideas. Don't just say "hey, I want to plot." It would be better off to say, "hey, want to plot. I think character x and character y can get along because lmnop." Simple as that, you've provided a foundation to plotting and it will only go up from there!
❝ ▬ Like I said, none of this insta-relationship crap. It simply won't fly. It needs to have some foundation and justification behind it. Don't pair your characters together "just because you feel like it" and provide no explanation as to how or why it happened. Plot the how and why, and then pair them together.
❝ ▬ Don't over-plot and figure everything out down to the last detail, because that will very quickly make the roleplay predictable and boring for you. Plot enough that you have something to go off of, an idea of the relationship, and then expand upon the relationship via the IC. It's a lot more entertaining that way.
❝ ▬ Don't one-line plot, that's a plotting faux-pas an is irritating. Saying "X and Y should be friends" and then dropping it at that is... well, no.
❝ ▬ A lot of people in the roleplay will know each other. Think of how you know your neighbors, and the person who lives across the street! If you've never lived in a neighborhood like this before, think of Desperate Housewives... how they all basically knew each other, or at least of each other, and gossiped about one another and talked some serious s**t about the other women in the neighborhood. Now, your character doesn't have to know everyone, but they wouldn't not-know a single person... unless they recently moved in.

Harrington Acres is located on the calmer, outskirts of Winter Park. Starting from the center of town, take main street to 42nd street. Follow 42nd street south until you reach Cypress Court, which will lead you directly into Harrington Acres. Of course, to get in you have to have the entrance pass code or some form of residential key card. The neighborhood is closed off by a gate that surrounds the entire neighborhood, and the neighborhood is very well protected 24/7 by a guard. Follow Cypress Court into the neighborhood, and on the right you have the option of turning into the golf course. If you keep going, you will reach the main-office of the neighborhood. This is where the property manager works, the home owners association does all their work, and where the neighborhood board meets once a week for their typical arguments about policy. From here, Cypress Court ends and the road turns into Hammock Court, the main road in the entire neighborhood that will lead you off to all the connecting streets. There are several houses along this road, the oldest of them all, and usually occupied by more elderly residents. Cherry Lane and Banyan Road are the most populous of the roads, though a lot of families with children like to live on Wisteria Lane due to the family-friendly cul-de-sac. Elm Street is where the youngest crowd lives, it seeming to be where all the college folk like settling down with their roommates. The houses on Willow Street are again, some of the oldest. These houses have been passed along in families from generation to generation, and getting the families on this street to give these houses up is near impossible. There are large-scale construction projects currently being undertaken on Redwood Road, Dogwood Drive, and the eastern end of Maple Street.

The houses in Harrington Acres all look nearly identical on the outside, in typical suburban fashion. Some are older than others, some are newer. They're all two stories, with a small front yard and a sizable back lawn. The houses on Cherry Lane, Banyan Road, and Willow Street have below-ground pools incorporated into the backyard. There is also a public, Olympic sized pool at the main office to be used by the community, for those homes without swimming pools.

Houses in Harrington Acres are all two-stories. Houses in Harrington Acres can have two bedrooms, three bedrooms, or four bedrooms. The largest of the houses is the four bedroom, with one bedroom downstairs, and three bedrooms upstairs. In the two bedroom and three bedroom models, all bedrooms are located upstairs. Residents at Harrington Acres are responsible for upkeep of their house, interior and exterior, and maintaining their lawn and any garden areas they may opt into. Failure to maintain upkeep of the home may result in a fine from the home owners association. Exterior painting of the home must be approved by the home owners association.

❝ ▬ THANKSGIVING;; Official Thanksgiving is on Thursday, the 26th, 2015. This entire week, relatives will be flying in or driving in to spend Thanksgiving together. There will be lots of cooking, lots of cleaning, and then Friday everyone can officially switch gears and break out all the Christmas decorations and prepare for the next big holiday.
❝ ▬ CURRENTLY;; It's nearing the end of lunch time, and elementary school is finishing up now. Some people will be getting home from work, some will just be leaving for work, others will still be at work. The high schoolers and middle schoolers are still at school for another couple of hours. Some people can be heading to Disney, some can be at work, the sky is the limit! Maybe just find a friend, and go on a lunch date.
