Updates? You mean the update that made the style better and let us allow auto-joining? The style was useless and auto-joining is really only useful to chatterbox guilds and guilds that need members really badly. Most guilds have an application so auto-joining would just be useless to them.

If you say so, honestly that's a pretty bad excuse for why it isn't updated.

Was that even correct english at the end there? I think I understand what you were trying to say but I'm not really sure I follow. I say this with the utmost respect, god knows I'm not perfect.
Member list updates, sorting, and a way to sort by joindate, even if you don't know what the numbers mean you can still see who joined when, at least approximately.

Twice now you have ignored me saying that. I'll say it a third time and then just write you off as being selectively mute, an a**, or just dumb.
The GGN devs has stated that to continue being allowed to work on GGN code and other updates the GGN needs to increase traffic, the job of guild captains and somewhat of their crew and members, to show by numbers that the GGN is being used and growing (even if slower than the rest of Gaia) and therefore is used enough to justify having devs work on it as opposed to, say, a new mini game.
I recently lurked upon a topic created by WindowOpener which peaked my interest. He used concepts like us (GGN advocates, captains, etc.) "getting behind Guilds." This actually supports the idea that increased traffic and such will boost the amount of people developing guilds. If we show the developers that we are behind guilds and help to increase traffic towards them we will more then likely see sporadic updates. Otherwise, we will end up like something rarely touched by the developers and I stress the word rarely (i.e. journals - as far as I've seen).

No I have, but I don't usually wonder when my members join, mostly I just want them to join.

Good god, if they can't figure out that people use the GGN then they're a special kind of stupid. The problem with the GGN is that too many people are creating guilds which causes members to be scarse and productivity to go down. For example, if a truck load of companies made the same product but with different labels it would be impossible for the other companies to get ahead even if their product had something better in it. It isn't hard to get 20k, I would know I make that kind of gold in my sleep by selling a donation item. Any idiot with an idea can make a GGN so we have tons of guilds that grow and die without any stability. In the old forum, and I've been here since March 2004, if you don't believe me then that pink building in barton you can't click on anymore used to be the gaia personals but was shut down because the mods couldn't control the porn advertisements. But back to my original statement. The old guild system was better only because it was an open market, any active guild could be seen and not just the really good ones. You can sort of do that now however the big guilds are still in the way and some of them aren't even active anymore and just take up space. I would talk about the downturn of rping, but that's a rant for another time.

I think the Captain and Co-Captain should be able to take money out and put money in so it can be used for contests and auctions and stuff like that.

The problem with that Momo, is that Captains and Vice Captains could take the money and put it into their own pocket. There would be no way to regulate it.

Gemini's point renders yours void. The point is that there IS traffic in the GGN. It is just spread so bloody thin that devs think we need to "up the ante", so to speak, for them to put time into us. I would really be interested in how many guilds there are in the GGN that haven't had a post in over a year (or two for that matter). Furthermore, I know that there are plenty of fantastic guilds in the GGN that only have < 5 members because there are so many inactive guilds burying them to page 4 in the GGN listings. So many guilds that are past their prime; guilds that "closed" months ago.

And as a side note...this is the reason for the confusion:

Quote:
You seem to have missed the part that: Without traffic, work on the GGN can't be justified enough.

I found it Gemini....it needed a colon and a capitalized "w". Also, I couldn't decide whether the "enough" was redundant or not so I just put it in italics. It makes sense with it, but the point isn't lost if it's removed.

Try reading it now xp
Gaians don't make GGNs (Gaia Guild Networks), there is one GGN that is comprised of many guilds.

More traffic, to a comparable percentage of other site areas and features.
If you have ever played in site building, bandwidth. They want us to cost more to host. (Seems backwards but somehow makes sense.) The GGN is all on separate servers than the other forums, I'm sure that when they said more GGN traffic they meant that, not more big guilds or a higher posts per user in all the guilds.

Now the member and post numbers go down when posts are deleted and members leave, which should have fix the dead guilds problem. My guild seems to perpetually be on page 3 of roleplaying, while I just checked today and page one was all small and new guilds, and page 2 had most of what is usually page one and two. Sad. Usually when I check the dedicated school is page one, the other one page two and mine page three, kinda funny and impressive in its precision.

Kirimoru-WO is awesome. He always has been and always will be. He is so awesome that he was born awesome and before he was born his unborn self was already so awesome that his mother had so much awesome she had a sparkily layer of awesome over her skin. Everything he posts is pure awesome for the purpose of that text being followed and worshiped. That is all.

As per your first comment...yes....I know.

Well it seems like circular logic logic to me, I believe that a way to get more people in there (as well as to get current members to post more) would be to advertise the GGN. I think if they put time in the GGN, more members would go.

How are people (especially the demographic we are attracting nowadays) going to see the GGNs potential or better yet, WANT to see it if the devs have it on the backburner. If devs have it on the backburner, that's showing the people that that is one of the least important "projects" that the devs have to work on (which supports your saying that it's backwards and furthermore ironic that they have us on our own servers). Now, as true as that may be, the GGN isn't even in queue. I mean, that like having a secret cove that you want people to go to but refuse to put up a billboard about it, let alone, make the cove itself a more desirable place to be.

And, yes, WindowOpener is probably one of the greatest people on Gaia to ever grace us with his presence...in fact, I don't feel worthy talking about him right now...

Twas a pleasure to be in the same guild with him indeed...
I am a captain, VC and member in a few guilds

Im not nessisarily sure if this is could be connected to the guild gold. but we try to keep up a status for our members so that we know if people are on vacation or what not, it would be awsome to have a audimated system to do that for you where you can set the status to be what you want,

example

active means posts within last 3 days
semi active means post within last week
inactive means hasn't posted in a week

then give members the option to choose a status of busy or vacation.

Also, mass Pms would be great, we send out a newsletter once a month or so.

Captain & Vice

Some kind of shop for guild Items

with items featuring

-A logo that would be uploaded at the guild (a small one)
-Guild color's picked by the Captain
-The guilds name and a link to the guild in the Description for the item.

the Item would be bought by Captain's & vice's and a record would be kept like with all things that use the funds.

And maybe some way to have an event or gathering
Hello every one

I didn't read threw every post on this topic but I did read the first page.

As a captain I would like to set a certain amout to distribute to all of my member equaly at any give point.

say I have 200k in my guild bank and I want to give 100 k back to my members.

so we take the simple equation (amount distibuted) divided by (numer of members) and each member would get that gold.
I'd like to be able to buy guild-only items. Much like the original Letter From Gambino or Engraving, I would like to use the gold to buy something simple for users that says the guild's name on it.
Playboyandi - That can be explointed. If the Captain bans everyone, they could 'distribute' all of the gold, getting it all. The point is so that exploitation isn't possible. Non-tradable and non-sellable guild-only items would be alright, but not any removal of the gold.
This is quite interesting.

I support many of the suggestions in here and I haven't read through all 9 pages or so, so I'm probably repeating a couple people.

One that I would really like to repeat, just because I like it so much:
*Captain & Vice ONLY should be allowed to send the gold from the guild donation to different members of the guild (i.e. for prizes).

*promoting guilds: I think that you should have a feature that for a lot of gold you can promote your guild (i.e. like user adds). This would be a nice gold sink (i.e. 1-10 mil to advertise) for the economy and if gaia wants the potential revenue, I guess they could incorporate gaia cash?

*In guild "name mods:" This would be a sweet feature! Being able to pay to make a name coloured or somehow different in the guild (sort of like they do for admin/mods on the rest of the site).

P.S. I love the PM system for gold. Glad to see that got put in.

I don't think that having a captain 'exploit' the gold should be an issue. People make their own decision as to if they want to join the guild, pay fees, donate, etc. The only consideration is that *similar* to contests, the rules/TOS should say that if the captain tells people that the donated gold will be used for prizes, then just like a contest, they have to award the prize.
