The Past

Jelani was the strongest warrior in his village. His uncommon insightfulness for a beastkin and unmatched strength made it so that he was chosen as a candidate to wed the Chieftain’s daughter. All candidates participate in a test of bravery and strength. They must retrieve a horn from a member of their natural enemy; the wild horned lion-beasts that roam their hunting grounds. Where all had failed, returning empty-handed or not at all, Jelani returned with horn in hand only to find that an attack had been made on his clan in his absence. The chieftain was killed along with all warriors fearless enough to fight back against the small army of Drows. The tribe of beastkin were no match for the armored and war-trained Drows, some of which were able to use magic.

Jelani did not want his people to fall in vain by charging in, obviously outmatched and at the plea for vengeance from his brother dying on the outskirts of the village, he fought in a fit of rage before retreating to the ravine while his home was destroyed and defiled. When the fires had died down and the Drows mobilized once again, Jelani took the Chieftain’s warhammer, the weapon that was to be given to him upon his return, and fled, vowing to repay the Drows for the decimation of his tribe.

He took to wandering and attempting to learn the language of other peoples. He had been born and raised in the Western Plains and rarely left. His goal now is to at least rescue his fiancee from enslavement and others if possible. Left without a home or a plan, he continues to roam the land.
