CHAOS DEMON
Izanami-no-Mikoto was (is) the great mother of Japanese mythology. She gave birth to almost all of the famed gods and goddesses of the area. Why, then, do the people not acknowledge her for what she has given them? Ah yes, for the pesky reason that she may have died in the process of birth. It was Izanagi's fault, honestly. His greed forced her to bring forth more and more offspring until she had to attempt to give birth to the god of fire. Her final child burned her alive as she pushed him out into the cold, cruel world. So died the Great Mother.
Izanagi tried to 'save' her, but she knew he was just unwilling to let her go somewhere he could not follow. The land of Yomi frightened him and she liked that. She ate a piece of food while there, tying herself to her new home. This was to be her domain while he tried to maintain the world of the living. He didn't understand how she couldn't leave it all behind for him, until she showed him her decayed, dying self. That was finally enough to push him away and he attempted to trap her in Yomi, cursing her name and swearing that he would make sure she would never destroy all of creation. For every thousand of his creations that she killed, he would make a thousand and five hundred. She always did like a challenge.
She grew stronger in Yomi, eventually becoming Yomotsugami and ruling over it. She was no longer a yamato nadeshiko, but a fighter- molded in discord and strengthened in battle. She later left her land to explore the world her children and their creations had molded, pleasantly surprised to find such intriguing things as weapons of mass destruction, militaries, and mochi. She stayed mainly in the land she helped to form, but as part of what is now known as the Japan Self-Defense Forces, she would occasionally go to other countries. In the end, she preferred to stay in her homeland. But the Conception wiped out everything recognizable. To be fair, she didn't start all of this, but she certainly benefitted. She thinks the swarms of demons out and about now are far preferable to just humans being around, but perhaps a few things should come back- like mochi and Tokyo milk cheese cookies. Perhaps if she found her own knowledge, then she'll be able to mold the world around her to be a little more tolerable, or maybe even merge it with Yomi.
