                                          PERSONA
                                          — ANALYTICAL ❚ Having already been familiar with criminal psychology with some years spent working in homicide, Jasper cultivated a sense of keen observational skills. Not only has he made himself to be wary of details but he's also capable of forming theories and concepts that would better aid him during ongoing investigations. This also extends well during periods of danger and conflict where Jasper would try to decide on the most appropriate form of contingency to solve problems. However ,it should be noted that his analytical skills can prove to be too effective for him, which has resulted him in going through bouts of paranoia.
                                          — SECRETIVE ❚ As part of Jasper's urge to remain in control at all times, he made it necessary for himself to exercise extreme discretion to nearly all aspects in his life. Even when he juggles between various "masks" that he puts on for different situations, he's goes through great effort to make sure he remains in character. He found it effective during his time out of Academia that the less information somebody has on him, the more likely the scales will tip to his favor. As a drawback, this makes it highly difficult for Jasper to trust others, which leaves one to wonder if he's capable of establishing any kind of meaningful relationship let alone a healthy one.
                                          — COMPOSED ❚ If there was one important detail that Jasper knew was essential, it would have to be remaining calm at all costs. He makes great effort when playing out as different "masks" of himself in order to remain character so as to know just what sort of reactions are considered believable. Being collected is no easy feat for Jasper's already damaged psyche, since he achieved by dulling himself emotionally for the most part thanks to various military books such as "Hagakure." While this isn't to say he can't understand another person's feelings, this makes it near difficult for him to be sensitive to the needs of others.
                                          — VIRTUOUS❚ Perhaps the one sane tether he has in this world, Jasper believes in righting the wrongs in this world, or at the very least, Academia. He shows great concern over how his actions and their repercussions may impact the city and its citizens. On a personal level, his ambition to save others is something he attributes to his parents, particularly his father Janus. He believes this to be one thing that keeps him connected to them and is also the reason why he's willing to give crime victims their much needed closure. Of course, morality has never been an easy topic to solve in philosophy due to its limits in practical scenarios. In Jasper's case, this means he often holds inner debates with himself over the possible impacts his decisions could have on people and Academia itself. This also means that he's unwilling to take a life. If anything, a big secret about Jasper is that despite how much violence he immersed himself in, he had never taken a life once. Should he, though, it may a cause an extreme sense of psychological and emotional devastation to his scarred mind.
                                          — OBSESSIVE❚ Ever since being tormented with seeing his father's bleeding body, Jasper vowed to himself to always become "strong." In his definition, someone strong would be someone who is competent enough to resolve any situation and come out victorious. He may have been a child at that time, but Jasper holds himself accountable for his father's death, which makes him take on the unhealthy idea that somehow, every crime that happens his is own fault. He takes the Academia Explosion case very seriously because of this, since he sees it as being his fault for not having justice served for those victims as well as exonerating Xenon from any further accusations. This experience resulted in him not only to actively learn about the darkness that lurks in the minds of people, but also how to combat such evils. Wanting to shed off anything he perceived as "weakness," Jasper delegated to strengthening his body by practicing intense physical training such as free-running and martial arts like a religion whenever he has the free time, though he does so discreetly. The time he felt most at peace was during his Phantom years, where he felt empowered when he righted the wrongs in his neighborhood. It goes without saying that this is as bad for Jasper's mental health as it is stacking boxes of dynamite in a steel mill factory. He often uses his obsessions to solve crimes, since his disturbing curiosity in all manners of abnormal psychology allows to imagine himself as the criminal acting out the crime.

                                          HISTORY
What is a person if not an afterimage of ripples made from the past? For Jasper, it was because of his exposure to the underprivileged and unfortunate in society that made him understand a bit of the world's real nature at such an early age. Hailing from a mixed heritage of Caucasian and Asian lineages, he was born to people who had invested themselves in trying to lessen the miseries of the poor and destitute. His father, Janus Kido, was an attorney who championed social justice and equality, aspiring to claim a seat in Academia's judicial infrastructure in order to clean the system. Because of both his parents' busy schedule, Jasper spent a handful of his days in the community health clinic with his mother, Irene. Even though he accompanied his mother, she was far too busy to show any significant attention to him. His father was not different either, as his push to head into Academia's judicial office made it necessary for him and his family to engage in events with the rich and powerful of society. His parents weren't oblivious to his woes, but in spite of their busy schedule, they managed to devote much of their free time to him. His father consoled to him, explaining that from his perspective, all the citizens of Academia are like family but he had also asserted to Jasper that he wasn't any less valuable because of it. Both Janus and Irene wanted their son to grow up not just in a prosperous Academia but a peaceful and equal Academia.

Jasper absorbed the compassion his parents had towards the unfortunate citizens of the city, but he still wanted his parents to spend more time with him. It wasn't any surprise that the ten year old was overjoyed to spend time with him by getting to see a big boxing event one night. Neither of them anticipated there would be so many spectators flooding stadium, so one could imagine just how thick the crowd was at leaving the stadium. Jasper and his father became separated through the sea of moving bodies, and his father's voice was drowned by the scattered murmurs. Just shortly after, a scream could be heard as if there was a horrific sight to behold. The crowd began to part ways and there on the ground was Jasper's father, his throat cut open and his belly bleeding out. A crimson pool sprawled out underneath his frame as people stood back as though fearful of its touch. Only Jasper stood there, his eyes staring hard at the disturbing vulgar riddle placed in front of him. Everything became ingrained into him of that scene, from his father's still body to the flow of the red tide. Jasper wanted his father back and even went as far as nudging corpse for the faintest glimmer that his father was still around. But that juvenile prayer went unanswered and with the death of his father also came the death of his security. Jasper had no idea who or what did this or if it could have been stopped. His and his mother's world had turned upside down and there was nothing he could do about it.

Irene endured the loss as best as she could, still sparing enough time and energy to work in the community clinic. However, her shifts were shorter than they used to be as she spent more time with her son. In some small sense, Jasper appreciated this but it didn't matter if his father wasn't present. A pillar broke off that supported his world and he felt all more helpless about it. The police claimed that his father was killed in a mugging attempt done by a hoodlum. Jasper wasn't allowed to see him in the court hearing so he was only delegated to seeing his father's killer through photos during the hearing. This man looked no different than the other underprivileged citizens that Jasper's father tried to help. He expected to see an evil and wicked person in those eyes, but to his surprise, there was only fear and despair instead. His mother told him all the happenings in the courtroom due to his insistence of wanting to know details. The tone of the suspect's voice and the way he described his crime seemed very puzzling. Did the suspect not know who Jasper's father was and what he was trying to do? If he was trying to steal from his father, why try to do so in such a busy place where there were so many potential witnesses? Perhaps the most important fact was the way his father was killed. He was stabbed in the stomach as well as having his throat slashed. Robbers prefer to flee the scene as soon as possible and, under the given circumstances, they would be less concerned with killing their victim so methodically. Eventually, the court tried and convicted that hoodlum, sentencing him to life imprisonment. Suffice to say, it didn't feel like justice to Jasper who began to doubt just how guilty the suspect was.

Inconsistencies were running in Jasper's head that pecked at him, continually reminding him that he was powerless to do anything. The circumstances behind his father's death were things that he couldn't figure out; there was a reason why his father died that hasn't been made public. Jasper can not stand being weak any longer, and began to obsess over criminal psychology and forensics. For the young boy, it was no longer enough to just understand evil to make himself feel less vulnerable, and for that he took up strenuous martial arts at a local school. When Jasper entered his teenage years, his bursting desire to be in control was still holding the most dominant position in his soul. Because the affairs and issues that plagued the lesser class went being unaddressed by Academia's government, it became more easier for crime rates to climb up. It would be easier for someone to stand up to thugs if it weren't for the fact that they would resort to ganging up on someone or worse, threaten the people closest to them. By this time, Jasper developed a formidable athletic build for someone his age but did his best to maintain the image that he was a pacifist wanting to just get by in school. A day came when he couldn't stand it anymore when there was a small skirmish that broke out on school grounds and result in one student getting stabbed. That night, Jasper had an unquenchable urge to remind those gangs the misery and fear they spread from their actions. Wearing clothes that concealed him and sport items to act as protection pads and a mask, Jasper enacted his own brand of justice and gave the thugs a taste of their own medicine.

It was an invigorating feeling for Jasper, who felt that his sense of powerlessness disappeared the moment he wore the mask and became a symbol of terror to his victims. He resumed his activities, albeit on an infrequent basis to throw off suspicion, as a means to wanting to keep some form of order in Academia. After all, news of his escapades manifested as rumors that circulated around the neighborhood, some even dubbing the vigilante as "The Phantom." As racy life was turning out for Jasper, his reign as the Phantom would only last a year and a half before Hope would be established. In it, Jasper saw it being exactly what it was named after, a symbol of strength for the underprivileged and destitute. However, Jasper's tendency in wanting total control of things made him skeptical about how successful Hope would turn out to be. Jasper was aware that while symbols can give great power, it can also be stolen and abused as history demonstrated time and again. But a weakness in the form of the memory of his father made him concede to at least try in humoring that Hope could be exactly the aspiration that Academia's citizens needed. Jasper bowed out and desisted from his vigilantism, eventually graduating high school. He could leave Hope with the task of providing order to the people, although somewhere in the back of his mind, he began to feel the pangs of regret from giving up on his vigilantism. Of all the things he experienced in life, it was the one thing Jasper felt gave him some sense of empowerment.

Jasper's post graduation years went in all sorts of directions in his life. To those who knew him, it came as a surprise that he decided to join the military and did a brief tour in a military campaign for five years before returning. By then, Jasper had still kept his obsessions in learning about the darkness in humanity and wanting to know how best to combat it. His reason to join the army was for his own personal training for when he'd start on his real goal: joining Academia's law enforcement. What brought back Jasper to Academia was the news of his mother having sustained injuries in a major explosion that occurred in Academia. Jasper returned and saw his mother, still alive but in intensive care with burns having overtaken 40% of her body. Additionally, his optimism for Hope also died that day when Hope dissolved. To make sure he'd keep a closer eye on his mother and help her in her recovery, Jasper requested to depart from the army and joined with Academia's police force. A few years in climbing up the ranks and Jasper became a detective. The first case he received was the big one: The Academia Explosion. Jasper intended to fully explore the circumstances behind the attack such as the bomb manufacture and potential witnesses prior to the attack. But his superior and coworkers already told him there was no need to pry open the lid any more. The case was ruled that Xenon was implicated to be the culprits behind the attack, a conclusion that didn't sit well with Jasper.

The explosion that took Academia by storm felt no different from the murder of his father. Just like how that man was most likely still rotting away in his cell for a crime he likely did not commit, Xenon was shunned and despised by the public for the allegations made against them. He was now most definitely picking up vibes that there was something that did not want him to dive in any deeper than what the case report stated. The Academia Explosion was something that still stuck to his mind no matter how many cases he had to pilfer through in his career. He had gone through many debates in his weary mind, one even considering about reviving his old school "extracurricular" activity. He had no lead, save for a tip given to him when interviewing one of the homeless about a series of strange terminals located throughout the city. While there doesn't seem to be a clear correlation between those hubs and the Academia Explosion, Jasper's intuition was pecking at him to cover all his bases for potential leads. But it also went without saying that his intuition was also warning him to do so with utmost discretion.

                                          — Thrillers ❚ Jasper prefers to keep his mind stimulated by occasionally picking up a thriller novel or two. He enjoys guessing what will happen next.
                                          — Puzzles ❚ Another form of stimulation, Jasper likes to keep his mind sharpened by solving a couple of mental games here and there. He takes some low-key satisfaction upon completing the more challenging puzzles since it shows just how competent he is.
                                          — Training ❚ Holding it with a religious zeal when it comes to maintaining personal strength, Jasper regularly imposes on himself grueling sets of physical exercises. Throughout the years, he's become extremely well-versed in free-running, gymnastics, and martial arts.

                                          — Cigarettes & Alcohol ❚ Jasper avoids these two as much as possible so he could keep himself healthy. He may be lenient with alcohol if the situation demands of it such as keeping appearances.
                                          — Unhealthy foods ❚ You would be hard-pressed in finding Jasper binge-eat on junk food. Not minding eating something sweet every once in a while, he makes it a habit to never indulge in these foods over a balanced diet.
                                          — Nosy individuals ❚ Maintaining privacy is a must in Jasper's life, which makes him highly wary of people to try to pry into his personal life. He's a firm believer in the concept of the less a person knows, the better.

                                          — Discretion ❚ It goes without saying that Jasper is a skilled actor who can not only remained calm under pressure, but also leak false information to protect his secrets. He learned in his experience that keeping useful details hidden can be far more devastating than either a bullet or a blade.
                                          — Peak physicality ❚ Constantly pushing his body to its limits led to Jasper becoming proficient at gymnastics and free-running. Additionally, his skills in martial arts and some street-fighting also makes him one of the best fighters in Academia, although he does his best to hide this talent to provide for himself the element of surprise.

                                          WEAKNESSES
                                          — Morals ❚ While wise enough to know that the world isn't just black and white, Jasper still believes there are lines you can't cross. This sort of belief of his, noble as it, can also work against him.
                                          — Distrustful ❚ Jasper's need to retain secrecy in his life comes at an expense of him being unwilling to trust other people. It goes without saying that it's nigh impossible for him to establish meaningful emotional bonds.
                                          — Fragile Minded ❚ Jasper's past traumas also made him overly protective of his remaining emotional bonds. His knack for being able to greatly empathize with killers also contributed to his mind's current state.

                                          FEARS
                                          — Going mad ❚ Jasper's well aware of his own mental state, which has him dreading the possibility that some day he'll become as insane as the criminals he put away.
                                          — Fear of loss ❚ It's apparent by now that Jasper didn't take the death of his father all too well. This makes him hoard over the emotional links he still has left in life.
                                          — Helplessness ❚ As stated many times before, Jasper is absolutely terrified of feeling weak and vulnerable.

QUOTE/MOTTO — "Everyone wears masks. The trick is in how you wear them."

SECRETS — In his late teen years just before the formation of Hope, Jasper was once a masked street vigilante who was called by others as "The Phantom."
