In the garden, a gijinka in her twenties lay sprawled across the lush green grass. Her lustrous golden hair followed her movement as this Arcanine gijinka rolled to her side causing her thick fluffy tail to wrap around her body like a blanket. Maiya lay there, content to be outside the stone prison. She has been laying there since the break of dawn, or rather on the first chance she got to go outside. She never liked her room. Even with the windows wide open, it always seems stuffy that it is suffocating.

’ I need to do some remodeling’ she made a mental note as she pulled her tail closer. The thought of remodeling her room have crossed her mind countless of times before but she never got to it. Grey on black theme, posh modern windows, a fully carpeted floor, it remind her strangely of her Growlithes’ dog house. Maiya frowned. If she doesn’t like it in there, she wonders how the police’s pokemons would feel. She bet they were like her; looking out the windows to catch the first ray of sunlight and looking forward to the day under the sunshine. ’When I get back, I’ll renovate the dog house-‘. Maiya stopped the trail of thought in its track. She bit her lips and forced down a sob. This line of thought occurred almost every time she steps foot in the room. She tried her best to break the habit but habit dies hard. The room itself is a painful reminder that she will never leave this accursed place. She will be here till the day she die, and that’s the issue. She won’t even know how long she’ll have to live through this nightmare for they say that a gijinka lifespan can match that of a normal pokemon.

Maiya rolled abruptly to her back, allowing her a view of the azure blue sky. She continued to lay there for the next half an hour, her thoughts jumping from her family, her life and her fate. Sometime she thought of absolutely nothing. Only allowing her to the peaceful silence. She didn’t remember when she fell asleep but she remembered clearly what woke her up. A gentle breeze washed over her, bringing forth the scent of coffee. And it is not just any coffee. It was Hana’s specially brewed coffee. And where there’s coffee, there’s food.

As fast as she fell asleep, the gijinka rose to her feet and made her way into the building. This life of a gijinka was something she needs to get use to. But this morning ritual was not something that needs a lot of her effort. People wakes up and eat. At least she does. And that’s the natural logic. As a human, pokemon, or even a gijinka, you need food. As she walked through the hallways leading towards the kitchen, she took another huge wiff of the air and frowned. “Masaaki isn’t cooking?” she muttered to herself, the look of disappointment was clear on her face.

A few days before, if someone told her that they can cook food that is more delicious than her mother’s, Maiya would just point and laugh. It was a ridiculous idea. Her mother’s job requires her to make food suitable for all the pokemon and also make food that would suit the taste buds of dozens of breeders on their farm. You’d be surprised of how picky some people can be. It came to no surprise how advanced her mother’s culinary skill was. But she can’t say the same for Masaaki. It was as if her mother’s skill is nearly on par with his and not the other way around.

“What’s for breakfast?” she popped into kitchen, bringing with her the scent of fresh grass and dirt. Her light brown canine eyes scanned the room, almost everyone was there. Her nose caught a faint scent of the legendary gijinka and she shivered slightly. Never liked him. In fact, she’s happy that he isn’t there.
