COLLAB GHOST STORY THING

SETTING

• It's steampunk-ish
  
• And there are vast canals running throughout the city. Public transit = large steamboats, smaller private "coachboats" for those that can afford it.
  
• In this world, a small number in the population is born with the potential to learn magic. Said potential is outwardly shown in the presence of strange coloured particles in one's eyes
  
  One of the key abilities all magic users have is the ability to see ghosts. Those strange coloured particles glow when ghosts are near. Yes.
  
• It's a multi-tiered world. Near the bottom floors, there are poor people. Near the top, there are richer people. The middle is all public areas/markets. The buildings move all over, and to reach the very top floors, you need a status pass and thus access to the glass elevators. At the heart of the city is a generator lined with mysterious statues.
  
• The water gets very high and very deep at places and very low at others yes. There are some parts of buildings that are practically underwater yes.
  
• The main story takes place at the CAPITAL.
  
• There are varying accents across the country, but British is the most common in the Capital.

THE PAST (as written by the history books)

• SOMEWHERE that isn't here AND SOMETIME that isn't now there was a city. The city was prosperous and all kinds of fantastic*~*~*~*~* At its core, people laboured and powered the city. And, though the work was hard it was rewarding.
  
  
• Then, ONE DAY, from out of nowhere a GREAT HAPPENING occurred, and while none of the buildings were destroyed, several thousands of people simply stopped moving--and, as time would show, they stopped aging as well.
  
  
• It was terrible... But, the week of mourning that followed, the machines that powered the city suddenly began to move by themselves.
  
  
• "It is the hands of God!" a group finally decreed, stepping forth from the shadows of the church steeples. "Surely, the happening was a cleansing of the sinful and religion-less!"
  
  
• And thus, said group rose to power, with this *~*~*philosophy*~*~ of *~*cleansing*~* and *~*god's divine intervention*~**.
  
  
• With newfound power, the group rounded up all the bodies and placed them throughout the cities as statues-- a constant reminder to the populace that sinning and amorality is BAADDDD.
  
• They also banned several other things such as magic, but it's coo b/c their city is powering itself.... Right....

THE PAST (what really happened)


• The Great Happening was, in actuality, an event planned by the current order itself. The people who stopped moving were not killed you see... They simply had their very SOULS ripped from their bodies.
  
  
• Then, said souls were harnessed for energy and used to power the city * u*
  
• Magic users were discreetly assassinated/taken down/captured by the gvmt. so they don't uncover the secret.

THE PRESENT


• Several years back, bad rumours about the order began to circulate, causing the order to cease ghost-power to the city's core.
  
• So, people were suddenly forced to labour again!!
  
• It was sad and after a few years of that, people got lazzyyyy and saadddd.
  
• And then the gvmt was like "TEEHEE GOD'S PUNISHING YOU GAIS FOR TALKING SMACK ABOUT US n____n"
  
• After much bawing and apologizing, the government decides to start the ghost-power again and make a huge spectacle/festival about it-- a kind of "renewal of vows to god" or something.
  
• And then our charas come in.

• THE ORDER IS MADE OF SEVERAL MAGIC USERS ITSELF. BECAUSE IT IS MAGIC AT ITS DARKEST THAT CAUSED THE GREAT HAPPENING TO OCCUR.
  
• IT FIRST EXPERIMENTED ON SOUL POWER USING CRIMINALS AND ORPHANS YEAH
  
• GHOSTS CAN'T GET VERY FAR FROM THEIR BODIES, UNLESS THEY HAVE STRONG MAGIC. If a soul gets too far for long periods of time, they feel an impossible amount of strain and eventually disappear.
  
• Time is calculated around the Great Happening--- Rebirth of City, or RC. The story takes place 0028RC.

• Ridley lives by the motto "KEEP CALM AND CARRY ON." As such, he's isn't easily phased by adversity and believes that sulking is much more trouble than it's worth. It's rather hard to phase him, much less aggravate, or daunt him, and he usually prefers sorting out problems in private.
  
• When he was young, he was very, very depressed. Ridley usually avoids the subject of his family now (except his sister he likes talking about her) although he still quite unwillingly carries a bit of emotional baggage from his homelife.

• Ridley was born into a hyper-religious family (an older brother and two parents).
  
• All was well, until, of course, he exhibited signs of magical potential at about the age of four.
  
• His parents and his older brother were horrified and appalled at the presence of magic in the household. As such, they tried to restrict/repress Ridley's ability (and essentially the boy himself). Though there was rarely any physicality to their actions, he was very emotionally distanced.
  
• As a child, Ridley was terribly repressed and truly believed that he was destined for Hell. But, he eventually overcame it with practice and came to the conclusion that nobody has any right to bring down anybody.
  
• WITH THIS NEWFOUND OUTLOOK ON LIFE, HE BECAME A STRONGER PERSON INWARDLY.
  
• A Ripper girl was born when Ridley 9 OR 10 and his older sibling was 11. She too showed signs of power potential.

• She grew up in a well off family with parents who both worked for the government. So after growing up, she also ended up working for the government too.
  
• The government is god basically and what they say is obviously true and for the benefit of greater society.
  
• Parents taught her the truth about the statues and the ghosts and her magic power was trained. However she did not know that the statues were still ~*~ALIVE~*~.
  
• So after the government announced that the gods were happy again and power would come back to the city, she and a group was sent to excavate ancient statues from the outskirts of the cities.
  
• While gathering a few wandering ghosts, a huge magical force came upon them and she was turned into a statue herself.
  
• Her statue was hidden away from the rest and her ghost hid herself in horror as she saw her ~*~RIVAL~*~ take her groups' statues away.
  
• Then she was tormented. For a few long years by the other remaining ghosts.
  
• By the betrayal and torment from the other ghosts, she begins to realize the severity of what the government is doing. But she's afraid to fight against the government b/c she knows how powerful they are.
  
• Ridley finally happens upon her a few years later and accidentally breaks her statue. As to "curse" him, she stalks him around now.

When Daddy Fulton realized that Mommy Fulton delivered a girl, he was so disappointed and did not bond with the daughter at all.
