eccentricMaybe she wasn't cut out for this. Cadence Smith had sat up in her chair with the only other victor from Twelve and known as soon as they announced the theme of the 75th Games that she was going back in. It didn't really matter with who to be honest, no one from Twelve had won in the six years since she had, and she just had to make sure that she was the person who came out again. Snow had made it quite obvious during his speech that this a result of all the unrest in the districts and he hadn't even need to imply it when he said that the tribute going into the arena was going to be above eighteen. It was a way to take care of the rebels, hopefully they got one of the leaders and they died in the Games and then Snow could pretend that everything was back to normal.
eccentricIt was foolish to think that everything would turn out all right, but the look in Snow's eyes as he had spoken had said all that Cadence had really needed to know, once the Games were over if things didn't quiet down things were going to get a lot tougher for many more people and she wasn't quite sure how she felt about all of it. Everything in Twelve had been calm, things were as they always were the Peacekeepers pretended to do their jobs and the citizens avoided them as much as possible unless there was someone offering coin for a little money. Kids still starved down in the Seam...and thoughts of unrest were few and far between. People could fight the Capitol if they weren't being fed.
eccentricCadence had resigned herself to going back into the Games the second they had learned what they were being forced into this year, but it still didn't change her heart pounding as she and Haymitch were directed to their area, sitting next to the people that were being rounded up for the chance decision of the second tribute. The square was quiet after the video was played and the treaties were ready and she had to fight to keep her composure, the anticipation for her name to be called from the glass bowl that had only two names in it was almost unbearable and the fact that Effie Trinket seemed to be talking much slower than usual was almost grating on Cadence's nerves.
eccentric"Cadence Smith." Trinket's smile was warm as Cadence walked to the stage, her lone clapping echoing through the quiet square for a moment before she realized no one was going to join her.
Sponsors, water, food. Haymitch had long since given up in trying to Mentor the tributes that were chosen for the Games, but Cadence was still trying, so the list of things to do was easier to focus on than anything else. It was going to be much more helpful this time around, now that she knew what she was doing in and out of the arena, she knew how to get sponsors and she had enough 'friends' in the Capitol that should be more than willing to bet on her if she played it right.
eccentricIt was almost comical to her that six months ago the fact that going back to the arena had caused so much stress and given her so many nightmares and then when her name was called she was nothing but calm and collected, but she took it as a good sign that she would get out again.
