• Ninety-seven years ago, a nuclear apocalypse devastated the surface of the earth. Nearly all life was wiped out, with the only known exception being the roughly 400 humans inhabiting the thirteen national space stations that were in orbit at the time. Two years after the apocalypse, the thirteenth station was tragically destroyed, and the remaining twelve stations - belonging to the nations of Australia, Brazil, Canada, China, France, India, Japan, Russia, the United Kingdom, the United States, Uganda, and Venezuela - came together to form a single habitat, dubbed "the Ark." With all 12 nations resources pooled together, the Ark was expected to be able to sustain humankind's survivors for six generations until they made their eventual return to Earth.
  
  Over the years, the Arkers have entrusted their survival to the Council, the governing institution on the Ark. Headed by the Chancellor, the Council consists of one representative from each of the twelve Ark stations and is responsible for making all important decisions on the Ark. The Council's main responsibilities are overseeing Project Exodus, which deals with their eventual return to Earth; rationing Ark resources; and enforcing the Ark laws. Due to the extreme conditions of space and the limited resources available, the Ark's laws are strict and harsh, but they are necessary for the Ark's survival. Rigid population laws restrict couples to having only one child. Food, medicine, and supplies are strictly rationed, and the medical staff aren't allowed to continue treatment for patients whose prognosis are deemed too grim to be worth the resources. Any adult found guilty of committing a crime, regardless of the nature or severity, is punished with death via flotation, while juvenile offenders are imprisoned until they turn 18 when they were either freed or executed. These rules may be harsh, but they're necessary to ensure humanity's survival.
  
  Except it's not enough. The original estimates for the Ark's resources is proving to be wrong. The population's grown from 400 to over 2,600 citizens in only three generations, and the Ark's life support is stretched to its limits. It's clear that the Ark won't be able to support all the Arkers for much longer, and after the oxygen supply was found to be reaching critical levels, the Council formed a plan: a hundred juvenile prisoners, chosen due to their expendable nature, would be sent down to Earth to see if it was habitable. The juveniles, referred to as "the 100," were all equipped with a wristband to monitor their vital signs, loaded into an Exodus dropship, and sent on their way. No one knows what they'll find on the surface or if they'll even be able to survive for more than a minute. If they survive, the Chancellor has promised to pardon all of their crimes, and if they die... well, at least they bought the rest of the Arkers some time.

  These are all the things you've read a thousand times by now and probably know by heart: follow Gaia's TOS, no god-modding, keep everything PG-13, etc. Super fancy post formats aren't required, but please include at least a picture of your character, their name, and their location in the format. Also try to avoid using anything larger than size 11 or smaller than size 10 font for the body of your posts in character.

  As far as literacy goes, this is more of a lit. break/lazy lit roleplay. You don't have to churn out a novel every post, but I expect at least three quality paragraphs per post. I'd prefer posts be written in first person point of view.
  
  Since this is going to be a pretty casual and small group, I'm not going to be strict about posting. Just don't leave people waiting for over a week without notice. If you're going to have to leave for a while, let me know. I'll contact you twice about inactivity before your spot is opened up to the public. If you don't respond to the first message within 24 hours, I will send another, and if another 24 hours passes without you answering, I will take down your character. If you get back in touch with me before anyone else applies for the spot, you're free to ask for it back or reapply.

  I'd prefer you use celebrities or models for face claims, as they tend to have better quality pictures, but you're free to use whoever you want. Just try to avoid scene kids and make sure your character looks their age - basically, don't try to pass off a thirty year old as an eighteen year old. Characters can be anywhere from 14 to 17 years old. change to 20? Your character cannot be 18 at the beginning of the roleplay. They can be turning 18 soon, but if they were 18 when they were on the Ark, they would've either been pardoned or floated already and therefore wouldn't be one of the 100. Also try not to use likes such as "stormy nights" or "swimming" when you're filling out your profile. These kids have grown up in space and literally never experienced a rain storm, nor would the Ark waste water on making a swimming pool. C'mon, son.
  
  I'd like a diverse cast of characters, both in terms of ethnicity and personality. Not everyone's crime should be murder or being born, nor should everyone have it out for the Chancellor. Try not to make carbon copies of canon characters, either.

Once your reserve's been accepted, you can move on to the profile. All profiles should be posted in a thread of their own in the test forum. You have 72 hours to complete your profile and send me a link to it. It's fairly simple and shouldn't take too long, but if you need more time, just ask.

  Formed in 2054 when the 12 Nations' individual stations joined together their resources and populations, The Ark (formally known as the United Ark Federation) is home to the last of humankind. The Ark was originally expected to sustain human life in space for six generations before they would make their eventual return to Earth. Strict restrictions were placed on resources due to unexpected population boom, and the Council became stricter, enforcing capital punishment and population control on the citizens. Even with these measures in place, the Ark's population has become more than its life support systems can handle after only three generations, with the original population of 400 having grown to 2,659 known citizens.

  The main divisions of the Ark are broken down into different stations, and each station hosts jobs that are vital to some specific aspect of life on the Ark. Stations include: Government & Science Station (also home to Ark Station Medical and the Earth Monitoring Station), Agro Station, Alpha Station, Aero Station, Factory Station, Hydra Station, Mecha Station, Prison Station, and Tesla Station. Most Arkers live in the station where their job is located.

  Due to resource scarcity, the Council developed a form of capital punishment known as Flotation. Any Arker who is 18 or older who is convicted of committing a crime, regardless of its nature or severity, will be sentenced to execution via floating. The condemned party is placed into an airlock chamber, which is then opened so that the person's body will be sucked into open space without any sort of protection. An adult offender may be granted a stay of execution by the Council, but this occurs very, very rarely.
  
  On the other hand, if someone under the age of 18 is arrested, they are sent to the Prison station and held in lockup until they turn 18. On their eighteen birthday, juvenile offenders get a review before the Council for the crimes they were charged with. During this review, the Council can either acquit them or find them guilty. If the offender is found guilty, they are executed via flotation.
  
  With the Ark oxygen shortage reaching critical levels, it was decided that one hundred of these delinquents were to be sent down to Earth to see if it was survivable yet, as well as to buy the Ark more time to try and fix the life support problem. If the 100 survive their time on Earth, the Council says they'll be pardoned for their crimes.

  Before the Exodus dropship was launched, each delinquent had a metal wristband attached to their wrist. This wristband allows a crew on the Ark to monitor the vital signs of the 100, so that they can determine if their experiment was a success. It is possible for the 100 to remove their wristbands, but it would require a great deal of strength and they won't be able to do it with just their hands.

  Due to the Nuclear Apocalypse, living organisms on Earth have undergone many mutations. Many of the animals and plants that the 100 will find on Earth will have noticeable disfigurements that were not mentioned in any textbooks on the Ark. Mutations that the 100 are likely to see include two-headed animals, luminous plants, psychoactive nuts, and even mutated humans.
