It started like a whisper, a breath against his skin or the brush of a wing. But then it grew. Louder, more forceful, like a gale or a cyclone. It tore at his breath, ripped at his heart his heart. He came to consciousness clawing like a drowning man as his eyes snapped open and his lungs rattled in his chest. How long has it been? he wondered as the dilapidated ruins of Regos filtered into his vision. The sky is different...broken. Ruined. Cassiel sat up, rubble falling from his ashen hair. He had been still for so long that his clothes had long since turned to tatters. Easy enough to fix for him, however. He stood and waved a hand, replacing his old garb with new. The aether flowed around his fingers and he turned his hand this way and that, watching the light play across his skin.

“Still not enough.”

Would it ever be enough to send him back to the Farther? The amount of souls he would need to force open the door...Cassiel's features twisted with anger. How dare they. How dare the Fates trap him here for actions out of his control! The prince's dark eyes turned towards the night sky. He would find a way, Fates be damned. He had already spent far too long on in this god forsaken world. It was time to end it all, time to be reunited with the other half of his heart, the other piece of his soul. As the thought crossed his mind, an ache in his chest blossomed.

Again...always the pain of the past...

He clutched at his shirt as the crystal shard embedded in his chest began to pulse. The air around him shimmered, glowed, beat in time with his heart. Cassiel took a ragged breath as the pleas that always followed assaulted him.

Please no...

Cassiel don't—

You're better than this. I know you are!

And then the images, the memories, the warmth of a time long since past. It surged and faded like a fickle ocean wave. Always the same. Never changing. Over a thousand years he had bore this burden. No longer would he submit to the whims of entities never deigning to touch the earth. He would release Apatha from their clutches, release himself from this wheel of pain and suffering. He was the savior the world didn't know it needed, it's righteous cause and unequivocal truth.

“Just a little longer.” Cassiel spoke to the sky as its hue changed from deep midnight to blazing cerulean. Another star was falling, another Fate hurting towards the earth. His lips pulled upwards into a bitter, knowing smile. The machinations were now in motion. While the Fates had forbidden him from ever touching another star, they had never sought to forbid man. And man's ambitions always outweighed its foresight.

While one war might end, another was just beginning.

From the sky came a star, bright and shining and true. Its body coursed through the clouds, shattering them. The shockwave of its impact rippled through all of Apatha and, most importantly, through Petra. Buildings rumbled and airships spun, losing their grasp on the air. Everything would change with this impact, everything. ORO gave pause, his features turning to the north. MOTHER's form shifted in and out of sight, her connection with the world quickly disintegrating.

Then another light. It burst into being with the force of a new sun, blinding all with its brilliance. Everything within radius turned to dust, leaving a barren crater of broken spirits. Swirling around it were tendrils of pure aether, their sighs and whispers enticing to all who could hear them. Petra stood, though barely, just outside the realm of the Crystal's destruction. But, all within turned towards it, drawn like moths to a burning candle.
