tall and athletic, ainslie’s frame is a result of her inability to restrain herself when it comes to fighting. also a direct result of this inability are a handful of scars, the most visible of which is a mark across her right cheek. she keeps her silvery hair long mostly because she can’t be bothered to cut it but partially because she knows it gives opponents a predictably easy target. her bangs often fall wildly into her indigo eyes, and both ears are pierced at least twice. ainslie’s clothing suggests a readiness to fight at any given moment—her wardrobe is casual and contains nothing she’d particularly miss if it were damaged in a fight—and she rarely applies makeup; she wouldn’t know how anyway.

— SELFLESS ❙❚ few expect it of her, but ainslie is fiercely protective of those who matter to her. she would gladly put her life at stake in place of theirs, and sometimes she surprises herself with those she chooses to protect. it’s not uncommon for her to have gotten into a fight defending some unfortunate stranger, although she’d never willingly admit it. her ideals are also something she would willingly die for.
— MISCHIEVOUS ❙❚ causing problems for alkaline followers, starting fights in the middle of the streets, inciting arguments with strangers: ainslie loves watching people succumb to their chaotic natures. she takes a particular pleasure in her actions, to the point where she might even thrive upon them.
— IMPULSIVE ❙❚ it isn’t so much that ainslie doesn’t think before she acts—she definitely has at least a few thoughts first, but it’s a very rare occasion that ainslie doesn’t choose one of those first options to act upon. something of a reckless streak overlaps with this trait; she never considers her own safety when she acts. ainslie doesn’t have any particular desire to die, but she simply doesn’t think about what might happen when she places herself in dangerous situations.
— CONFIDENT ❙❚ ainslie exudes confidence; she claims that she doesn’t know what it feels like to doubt herself. she doesn’t care about what others think of her. although there are a few exceptions here and there, ainslie views herself primarily through the lens of her own opinions. she learned very early on that most people didn’t look fondly upon those with her sort of upbringing, and she wasn’t going to let them tear her down.

❙❚ HISTORY —
Ainslie’s family was one constantly vacillating between having nothing and just barely having enough. She was the middle of five siblings—three brothers and one sister—and together all seven of them shared a small house in Old Town with another family. She attended a school barely capable of imparting knowledge unto its students and even less capable of maintaining order within its walls. Early on, Ainslie couldn’t stop herself from picking fights with the other students: biting a girl for making fun of her masculine hand-me-downs, punching a boy for pulling her hair, refusing to address a teacher by anything other than unkind names. Aside from her own problems, Ainslie often found herself at the center of everyone else’s troubles as well. A younger sibling was being bullied at school? Well, she would have to do something about that. Her older brothers planned payback for a classmate’s mishap? She’d definitely have to help there. Perhaps because she didn’t know any better, she was happy. Even when her family struggled, she found ways to ease their burdens.

It wasn’t until Ainslie’s older brothers joined Hope that she began thinking about the world beyond the small sphere existence she knew. She was thirteen and didn’t care to know much, but she respected the endeavor to make their home better for everyone, even if she had little interest in joining herself. She was too preoccupied with helping her own family to start helping anyone else. Still, when she turned fifteen and showed no signs of discarding her scrapper reputation, her eldest brother began dragging her along to Hope events, attempting to curb her troublesome behavior. Ainslie officially joined somewhat reluctantly; she never gained any prominence within the group nor did she lose any of her bad habits. A year later, after the announcement that the Academy planned to destroy her home—to destroy all of their homes—there was no question of which side of the rift she was on. Unsurprisingly, Ainslie found herself at the center of many of the fights that erupted between the divided group, including a few against her own brothers. She’d even incited a couple of them herself, unable to contain her disgust for anyone willing to let the Academy demolish Old Town.

After both of the new groups were left leaderless, Ainslie almost considered leaving. After all, no one could replace Xenon, and for some time, it didn’t seem that anyone wanted to. Besides that, her older brothers had already left, too frustrated with the chaos to remain any longer. Her internal debated lasted less than a day. She’d stopped attending school years ago and it wasn’t as if there was anything else she could do with her life. When their new leader finally took her place, Ainslie knew she’d made the correct decision.

Since the destruction of Old Town and the conflicts with her brothers, Ainslie has had very little contact with her family. They know that she’s alive, and she sends them as much help as she can manage, but she hasn’t actually seen them in at least three years.

❙❚ LIKES —
— LIGHTNING ❙❚ she doesn’t particularly enjoy being in the rain, but ainslie loves watching lightning flash across the sky and those rare moments when it strikes nearby.
— BOXING ❙❚ she enjoys almost every sport, but there’s something therapeutic for her in the type of fights boxing creates. this is something she took up fairly recently, after a fellow xenon member suggested it to her.
— BANTER ❙❚ for as much as she loves physical fights, she almost enjoys verbal fights more. no one ever expects her to be capable of them and ainslie finds the looks of surprise hilarious.
— HEIGHTS ❙❚ the higher the better. it’s something of an adrenaline rush to be at the top of a high rise, and it’s calming to be on the roof of the average building.

❙❚ DISLIKES —
— SMALL SPACES ❙❚ for one thing, it’s much more annoying to fight in a smaller space, and for another, the only small, enclosed space ainslie ever wants to be in is her coffin.
— PRETENTIOUS PEOPLE ❙❚ these are the sorts of people that she will forgo banter with and punch in the face instead. she hates those who carry themselves as if they’re better than everyone else, and she hates them even more when they make it clear they believe they’re better than her.
— CRITICISM ❙❚ even when it’s meant constructively, ainslie can’t stand critiques. she’s very certain and set of the way that she is, and she doesn’t see a point in trying to change herself.
— BLAND FOOD ❙❚ it’s something she grew up with, since her family could never really afford decent food, and it’s something she’s always hated.

❙❚ STRENGTHS —
— PRESSURE ❙❚ she performs well in high risk situations, at least in the sense that she doesn’t panic. the actions she takes, of course, may not always be the best ones.
— COMBAT ❙❚ beyond the fact that she’s been scrapping almost as long as she’s been able to walk, ainslie pestered enough teachers that she took a brief series of lessons across a smattering of different martial arts disciplines. she decided that mixed martials arts seemed like the most fun and that teacher was the most willing to make financial arrangements with her, and she’s stuck with it ever since.
— HARDINESS ❙❚ both physically and mentally, it takes a lot to wear her down. this isn’t to say that she’s capable of brushing off things that should kill her: it might just take a little longer for her to succumb to them than the average person.

❙❚ WEAKNESSES —
— RESTRAINT ❙❚ unsurprisingly, ainslie has almost zero ability to keep herself from acting once she’s made a decision. she also doesn’t have much of a verbal filter, and although she doesn’t always mean everything she says, she doesn’t hold back when it comes to saying what she means, even if maybe she should.
— PERSPECTIVE ❙❚ it’s not that ainslie is unintelligent—she’s simply never been able to think of things on a larger scale. For example, she’s perfectly capable of thinking several moves ahead within the confines of a fight, but she doesn’t know how she’s going to make it through the entire building beyond knocking out anyone in her way.
— HARD-HEADED ❙❚ once she’s made her mind up about something, it’s painfully difficult to convince ainslie to change it. everything from decisions about actions to opinions she’s formed are covered under this, and sometimes she is a little narrow-minded because logic and facts don’t always sway her.

❙❚ FEARS —
— LOSS ❙❚ ainslie is terrified of failing to protect someone close to her or having to watch them die while she’s unable to do anything.
— IMPRISONMENT ❙❚ she dreads the possibility of captivity in any sense; she doesn’t even handle being physically restrained well. the idea of being in the hands of the academy whether having been merely arrested or something much worse is something she’s had more than a few nightmares about.

❙❚ AMBITIONS —
— PROTECTION ❙❚ despite the distance she’s maintained from them, she mostly just wants to keep her family safe. she’s even gone so far as to discourage her younger siblings from following in her footsteps as a member of xenon.
— DISMANTLE THE ACADEMY ❙❚ to be frank, she’d be perfectly content setting all of the academy buildings on fire and being done with it, but even ainslie knows that physical destruction wouldn’t be enough to actually change things. she just isn’t sure what exactly it would take, but that’s what people like xenon and kaira are for, after all. she’s content to help in whatever ways she can even if that means she ultimately stops being useful.

❙❚ BLURB — while hope still existed, ainslie and alice became close friends; it started mostly because she hurt herself during a particularly harsh fight and alice ended up treating her. after ainslie found out that alice was relatively new to academia, she started doing as much as she could to help the medic learn more about the city. any time she ended up hurt, ainslie always went to alice, although sometimes someone had to bring alice to her. after all, ainslie had a habit of underestimating the damage done to her body.

after the explosion, however, with tensions running high and the two friends falling onto opposite ends of the spectrum, ainslie and alice argued. both said particularly unkind things to the other, and they haven't spoken since. ainslie regrets never apologizing, and sometimes she looks at alice's contact information and thinks about how easy it would be to call her and ask to meet. but she feels like it's too late at this point, and besides, she doesn't think she deserves alice's forgiveness. regardless, she'd still do anything to protect alice.

❙❚ BLURB — she feels like kaira is constantly trying to turn her into something she's not, and most of their encounters don't exactly end on a pleasant note. ainslie does at least think that she's a sufficient leader, and so long as kaira is trying to dismantle the academy, ainslie will stand by her side, or at least somewhere in the vicinity. sometimes she wonders what kaira will do if xenon actually comes back or if xenon as a group is no longer needed, but such thoughts are fleeting and uncommon.
