ノHOW DO YOU FEEL ABOUT YOURSELF?┇Oh, wow. Uhm... I try my hardest, I suppose! I always do what I can to make sure everyone's safe and happy- I guess that's not quite what you asked? Sorry. I do like myself, I think. It's very important that you like yourself, and now that I'm at a point where people see me and try to emulate my behavior... It's very important that I'm someone that I can live with. Not just for myself, though it's a great side-effect.
I wouldn't say that I have nothing to be ashamed of, of course, but I also don't get to choose the points in my life to pick apart and take away. Who's to say what kind of person I would be without the bad, the good, the seemingly insignificant? Not- Oh, wow, I'm not trying to get super philosophical or anything, sorry. I just... I think it's very important to recognize where you come from, hardships and all. I've made mistakes that people have on video, yanno. That's like... wow, that's really hard to forget about sometimes. But that's okay, too! I'm not proud of what I've done wrong, but I'm proud that I'm always learning.
I think I've gotten a little off-topic again, but uh... yeah. I like myself. I like the parts of myself that I hate sometimes. ノBACKGROUND┇
Two twins were born into the world; Maven and Raven, til death do they part.
Maverick was always the easier going child, more bubbly and less fussy and far less likely to break down into wild sobs unless his brother was in tears. As they aged, this personality manifested into violent optimism and belief in other people, the kind of trait that was a magnet for attracting friends and acquaintances. Even as a pre-schooler Maverick was a hit with the other kids, and when his quirk officially manifested in the form of a warm blue aura it was much easier to understand why. Maverick's quirk allowed him to inspire other people, to give them hope and make them feel like they could accomplish anything. His brother's quirk was far more practical - it was the first time their parents really split them apart and favored Raven for anything at all.
Maverick hadn't minded; he hadn't even noticed.
However, when he reached his preteens he started to realize how his quirk worked. It wasn't just a beacon of inspiration, no. He could manipulate the energy he obtained from the feeling of hope and use it to do things others couldn't. His teachers praised him for his new discovery and Maverick went home proud and ready to share with his parents. They loved it, obviously. Everyone loved it. This bright, optimistic child who had a personality that could sell sand to the beach had a power that could make him a real hero. Maverick was ecstatic.
The twins went to a heroic high school in England, which only further set the divide between them. Maven loved his brother, but his brother held an envy for him that he couldn't do anything about. Mav did what he could to include his younger twin in events he was invited to or parties that he held, but that did nothing to dissipate the wall that was starting to build. Maverick was popular. He had women fawning over him and men who envied him to the point of fighting for his attention in hopes women would notice them if they hung around him enough. He wasn't the smartest crayon in the box by any means, but that just gave people room to spend time with him and tutor him on subjects he struggled with. Mav wanted for absolutely nothing, and he was oblivious to the problems his brother had until it was too late.
Maverick was scouted for many a hero agency but his brother... had nowhere near the options he had. The older twin lightheartedly declined his offers and decided to go to college instead, hoping his brother would feel less pressured if he took more time off before becoming a hero. Perhaps it didn't turn out that way. Perhaps he felt pressured to go to college, too.
Maverick joined an agency in his sophomore year of college. He tried to keep it under the rug for a while, but his quirk isn't exactly subtle and he's never gone out of his way to hide it in class - not that he necessarily can.

Okay. So. What is hope embodiment? What does that mean? What does it do?
For quite a large stretch of Mav's childhood, he wondered the same. The blue aura that exuded happiness and expectation was considered his quirk for most of his early life. He was some sort of... productiveness conduit; he could absorb the happiness and desire of others and reflect that in an aura of some kind. Maverick was more than happy with that. He didn't mind the jabs that his quirk was weak, that he was just a small fry. None of that mattered to him.
When he discovered that his quirk was more than that, though, it started to matter. As the embodiment of hope as an aspect, Maverick can absorb and manipulate the idea of hope and use it to do a multitude of things. It's like a bar that fills up and can overcharge, the excess of which starts to make his body glow a light blue and give people around him a feeling of hope. He can expend the energy he's crafted out of hope to do things which then depletes how much he has; it recovers over time using the energy of other people and the energy he has himself.
Essentially the more outrageous the thing Maverick wants to believe he can do, the more energy it takes. Something such as a blade crafted out of the embodiment of hope is surprisingly easy, just a physical construct created from the bright blue energy he converts hope into. Dodging bullets is quite a bit harder and also requires his unwavering confidence in the ability to do so - and that confidence is not enough to keep him from getting shot.
Maverick doesn't get a whole lot of energy from just himself; in most cases he can maintain his blades and nothing else. When in a group, however, Mav can feed off of their feelings and do even more. The inverse to this is that he also feeds on feelings of hopelessness. As the embodiment of hope, the lackthereof drains his energy faster than the actual feeling of hope replenishes it. Someone able to manipulate him or people around him into feeling crushed and without a way out will render him absolutely powerless. Maverick has to believe something is possible if he has any hope of doing so, but so do the people around him. If he's without hope he's a step above useless - he can even end up doing things that are detrimental to his team.
What sort of bad stuff can he do, then? If someone were to make Maverick believe he were suffering of a broken leg he didn't have, for example, Mav can physically make himself break his leg. Someone skilled in the art of manipulation can make Maverick do terrible things to himself and even get him to hurt other people. Illusion quirks are the absolute worst thing for him when he's alone; once he realizes he can't trust what he believes, feels, and sees, his quirk falls apart completely. He's relatively easy to take advantage of while he's alone. Even with his quirk working at full capacity, on his own they're just manifested blades. Many a quirk could outrange or outpower that.

ノ BRIEF SUMMARY┇ Maverick is the kind of person who has always achieved great things through hard work and dedication. Before he really understood the intricacies of his quirk, Mav was essentially quirkless. Sure, he could inspire other people, but it did nothing for himself and he had to achieve things through his own efforts. His quirk makes him almost frightfully optimistic at times, always trying to look at the bright side of things and understand where other people are coming from. He has an acute sense of empathy for others that can be easily exploited.
Most of Mav's life hasn't been exploitation, though. Maverick is a popular young man, and his attitude as well as his quirk make people flock to him. He's funny, cute, and understanding of others - what's there not to love? Despite how people do quite literally fawn over him at times, he doesn't have the ego to show it. Maverick is humbled in the face of compliments and truly tries his hardest to be the best person he can be every day. It's actually disgusting, how pure he is. It would be a shame if someone broke him.
ノ HOPE EMBODIMENT┇ ♛█▻▻█ maverick embodies and manipulates the aspect of hope. ♛█▻▻█ hope is an idea, and not a physical thing. maven can manipulate the idea into a physical energy that lasts until the feeling goes away. most commonly, he can manipulate that energy into blades to wield. ♛█▻▻█ this is a power that works directly on his own feeling of hope and the hope of others - as long as someone on his side feels strongly that not all hope is lost, he can work with that. ♛█▻▻█ excess amounts of hope exude in an aura around him that emboldens other people. he can essentially inspire other people to feel hope! he also glows blue a little bit, which is pretty sick. ♛█▻▻█ the more he's surrounded by hope, the more powerful he becomes ♛█▻▻█ just the same, he is much weaker on his own and can be manipulated into losing his power completely. ♛█▻▻█ without hope, maven has nothing. if he starts to feel helpless, he becomes weaker, which makes him feel more helpless and the cycle continues.
♛█▻▻█ Maverick embodies hope, and hope empowers him to do things beyond standard human condition. If he believes in his ability to do something, then he can do it, if he has enough strength to do so. Mav can draw on the hope of other people to give him strength, as well as manipulate his own feeling. For this reason, Maverick is generally optimistic and hopeful. The more hope he feels - from himself or otherwise - the more powerful he becomes.
This feeling of hope, when held in his body in excess, exudes an aura that empowers people to feel hopeful, as well. Maverick can manifest it into a physical construct as well. He can craft a blade to fight with, and often dual-wields. With hope to spare, he can sometimes do things just because he believes he can. On the flipside, he is weaker than most without hope around him. If he feels hopeless he has no leg to stand on and no power to fight with. His power of belief can work in extraordinarily negative ways, getting himself or others hurt if he believes it's a possibility.

Also known as "Sunset's Daughter", Qi is a spirit of nature personified. She has a love for seeing the light in life and in others, and a greater love for losing herself to her own imagination. Books have been an important part of her life from a young age. Since Qi cannot physically announce herself or speak when spoken to, most of her interactions have come from the realm of paper bound in leather hardback. She's lonelier than she lets on, but she does her best not to show it. Qi is all smiles when people are around, because she genuinely enjoys the company even if she's hardly noticed.
Qi, however, harbors a secret; she was not born a woman. Qi's mother gave birth to twin boys and she absolutely hated them both. Alternating between heavy emotional abuse or a constant rotation of women's clothing to wear, Qi grew up with the perception that in order to please her mother, she had to be the daughter her mother always wanted.
Her twin did not get that memo. His spirit was returned to the earth, and Qi was left broken and desperate to please the only family she had left. Her voice was stolen from her - the one person who could speak in her stead was gone, a light that would never return. Qi wallowed in that misery for the better part of her life before finally shedding herself of the weight of her mother and escaping to Cherryblossom - but she still carries her pain and her bad habits.
