- Hello fellow dancer! My name is Madame Callister, owner and overseer of the prestigious Abney Dance Academy, located in New York City, New York. Here we have trained some of the world's greatest dancers and choreographers, and consider ourselves one of the best academies in the United States if you want to pursue the career of dancing. If we are not known throughout parts of the world for our academics and teachings, then surely we are known throughout the U.S. for such things. Also, our destination makes it easy to travel to the beaches, multiple districts, and attractions of New York City, making this place another great hot spot for those who also enjoy the city life.
For 65 years, we have accepted the best of dancers from around the world, but that had always come with a price. Because of our amazing choreographers and teachers, the tuition is high. However, we do offer many financial aid programs, grants and scholarships for those who are unable to cover the cost.
Although we love to know that those older or younger are interested in dancing, this is still an institute, and we cannot have parents lingering around. Even now we're bending the rules by allowing seniors in high school to come join us, but we cannot allow anyone younger to join due to the fact that they still require an education before coming to our academy. Nationality and gender matter not, for we accept all kinds here. And for our students who are still learning English, we have a talented staff of Language Professors to aid them.
As long as you have been trained in some sort of field of dancing, we will accept you. Our choreographers and teachers at the school also have a huge range of knowledge about the styles, so we most likely can find someone who will match your own style.
Attending the academy would mean you would have to stay inside our dorms, along with one other roommate. You will not be able to drop out of the academy unless there is a valid reason. Our curriculum is also composed mainly up of dancing, with only about one to three academic classes during the day. Because of this, there is a lot of free time given to students, in which they may go around the city, or stay on campus. Classes are personalized to fit a student's schedule, where they will either work with a group or privately.
There is a cafeteria located on campus if students want, they can get a meal for free [extra food is available there for a minimal cost] but otherwise off-campus, students have to pay for their own and also are responsible for themselves meaning Abney cannot be held responsible for any trouble they get themselves into, nor do we wish to be associated with any ill-gotten behavior..
At the end of each year, we hold a dance competition in which all students are required to perform at, although throughout the year, students should prepare for it ahead of time. When dancers arrive, we have an orientation beforehand that places dancers by into groups of 5 by their personal dancing styles. Throughout the year, we hold events that promote the competition, and rewards are handed out to the group that wins each event that can better help them at the end of the year. Dancers in the groups are required to choreograph their own dances- they can have help from choreographers but they cannot ask them to choreograph a dance for them. At their time in Abney, we also hope that they will treat their group like their family- usually groups are placed near one another in terms of buildings [don't worry, you always get in a dorm with people of the same gender as you] and have dance classes together.
If you are interested in applying to Abney Dance Academy, please send a letter back to our institute addressing your name, style, and enclose a picture of yourself, as well a sample of your dancing to show why you think you should get in. Any questions will be answered if you make it to the campus. Do not worry, this school is safe, and we take pride in our ability to care for all of our students. Thank you for reading, and hope you to see you on our campus.

- Posting»
- Three paragraphs, please aim for at least that. I won't care as much about how long your posts are, just so as long as there's substance in it that keeps the story moving forward and you have at least 3 paragraphs. I don't want to read about a flash black that makes up the majority of a post unless it really does have some importance to the story, nor a paragraph about how pleasant the sunset looks to your character. I will expect intros to be longer and to have less substance because at the starting point, all you're really doing is introducing your character and propelling them into the actual story. And, I'm sorry, but I also would like you to make your posts flashy- if it has little to no color I will most likely ask you to go back and add more flair. If you do not have any graphics-editing program, you can always ask someone else to help you out, or go to picnik.com. (Or ask me if you truly need help, I'm not amazing but I'll do whatever you wish)
Activity»
- We have all come across those people at least once in our Roleplaying lives. The person who's all gung-ho about a roleplay for two or three posts, then just disappears off the face of the earth without a trace. Please don't do this to me. I'm not asking you to post every single day, I know we all have lives away from the computer. I'm just asking you post two or three times a week if you can manage it, at the very least once a week to let me know you're still interested in the roleplay. If you need to go on a hiatus for whatever reason, just PM me and let me know about it so I don't delete your character from our list
Characters»
- Firstly, I ask for real photographs; This means no anime/cartoons/self-drawn images. I'm not against them, (I'm an Anime Slut, I'll have you know) but I tend to prefer real photos whenever I do a modern-school roleplay. If you can't find a model you like, check out DeviantART or Flickr for some lovely images, it's where I always snag mine.
Respect and ToS»
- These should really go without saying. Follow Gaia's rules or we'll have trouble. This means keep it PG-16. Violence and Romance are fine, and mildly encouraged to keep things real. But tone it down and if your character want's do to the horizontal mambo, don't do it here. Got it? And if you can't play nicely with the other roleplayers, don't play at all. I understand we can have disagreements and tiffs, but keep it on the downlow. If you really have to fight, do it with your characters. Things that also should go without saying:
- -No Godmodding. No GaryStus/MarySues. Big no-no. No auto-hits if you're fighting. Give your characters some depth. While your character should be good at dancing to be in this Roleplay, they have to practice and work their bums off. Nobody's perfect/amazing on their first try for anything
-When you PM me your profiles, title it "Abney Park - Shanty" to let me know you've paid attention
Our Roleplay»
- The story of the roleplay is fairly open- there is no set plot you have to follow, except for the fact that there is a dance competition and your character is a part of it. The only thing you will have to follow is events that will be posted, otherwise what happens is up to you. This is also a first-come-first-serve roleplay, since there are no specific roles and people are placed into three different groups. That doesn't mean I will accept you automatically- you still have to qualify, and I want to keep the boy/girl ratio nearly equal [since there are 15 dancers, we can't have an equal amount, but I would like it to be 7:8 or 8:7], but as for how many girls or guys in a group, I won't be picky [of course I don't want 5 girls or guys in one group]. For the groups, I don't want too much applicants in a row leaning towards one group [as in I get three applications requesting to be a hip hop dancer one after another], so I will tell you if I'd prefer that you'd be in another group.
There is also no set date for profiles to be turned in, but there will be a set date for when the roleplay starts. I won't cut people off if they don't turn profiles in by the time it does start nor will I stop accepting people [unless of course all the roles are filled], but I do expect you to be finished by then.
Please ask any questions you have in our OOC board and I will try and answer them as soon as possible.

- 1. Choose which group you want to be a part of.
Yes, I realize there are 7 more groups but I doubt I would be able to find 35 more roleplayers. If more people want to apply, I will add on another group, but for now there will only be three. The personalities given does not mean you have to fit your character exactly to the description. They're just more of a foundation to build off of. [but don't go too far off like by making a ballet dancer a total gangster].

2. Send in an application to us, and we will decide whether or not to accept you! [please read the all of the rules and all of the story before you send one in to ensure that you are right for this roleplay]
xxxxxxxxxxIf you'd read the rules, you know what to title this when you send it to me smile If not, you better go back up and check. When you send this in, do whatever you want to it. Make it xxxxxxxxxxpretty (or even better, set it up like your post format so we know what style to associate with which character)
[size=24]Dear Madame Callister,[/size]

Name - name, first middle last
Nickname - Any nicknames they have?
Age - Fourteen - Remember, no younger than a senior in highschool, but not really "parent" old (this means a cap at like..twenty-six

Quote - If it's from someone else, please give them credit.
Appearance - Links. You can place them anywhere else in the profile if you want. But you've still gotta describe em here

If you are lazy and don't want to type up a history, then just give a really quick bio and move onto the personality. Make your history interesting, not just something like You can have parents dying, but don't make people die to the point where we're actually making a change in the population.
Hobbies - What do they do in their spare time? At least two.
Theme Song - One would be enough, not required section but it's still fun
Username - Your username~

- Abney Dance Academy is located in New York City, NY, and currently about 280 students, foreign and nonforeign, attend, with 40 staff members. Abney is a boarding school that requires all students to live on campus. We offer many different classes that relate to dancing, and several classes in academics. Although we hope that many of our students will end up in the dancing field as the head off into the world and choose their careers, we try to keep as many options open, and if a student portrays talents greater than dancing, we offer them the chance to transfer to one of our many affiliated schools that will help them in that particular talent.
Most of the classrooms here are designed as a studio, while the ones meant for academics are shaped into college classrooms. We also have a swimming pool, exercise room, cafeteria, and library for any one who feel the need to relax and take a break from their regular routine. Our campus is somewhat large- although only about 300 students attend to our school, we could hold up to about 100 more students inside our large and carefully constructed dormitories.
If students wants to get out of his/her dorm, they are free to leave starting at 7 AM, but must be back by 10 PM (Weekends is 12 AM). No matter how late students stay out, they are expected to come to class the next day- too many absences will eventually result into expulsion. Also, anyone that is 17 or 18 must be accompanied by at least one other person during the weekends if you are to stay past 10 PM. Students must also have their IDs on them at all times outside of the campus, and will be sent back if spotted without them. They also cannot leave the city unless it is currently winter, summer, spring, or thanksgiving break, or for different reasons, there is an elongated weekend.
There is a free bus daily that takes people to and from the campus on weekends- it comes every hour starting at 9 AM, and ending at 7 PM daily. The only stop it goes to is Times Square. Students may use other means of transportation to get around- public bus, subway, or car.
The following is the various classes you can take during the day;
List of dance classes
[For a more condensed version& a version that has more of the dance classes taught in Abney, look up the dances from So You Think you Can Dance & Dancing with the Stars; you can use wiki for that]
There are very few classes on weekends.

Cassy slowly walks into the big and beautiful school and leaves a bone at the entrance saying "Werewolves above and under , left and right , keep an eye of those in my sight!" She passes in and loses her smile, seeing there's nobody inside. She starts singing a song of her like : "Walking alone... leave them pass by... fell in a hole .... looking to the clouds on the sky.... "
While she was singing she looked on the paper where her room was written. " I'll go place my bag and then eat something" she though. She got only a bag... so it wasn't hard to carry , but she wanted to be free of all the fears of stealer people. So she placed her bag on her bed , she changed in a turquoise dress , her favorite color, and she jumped the stairs to the cafeteria. When she got there, she saw that there ain't anybody as well. Disappointed, she gets to her locker , which was very close to the cafeteria. She got her books, which were already placed there, and gone into the first classroom she saw, hoping that there was somebody. But there wasn't anybody. Very disappointed again , she said a word in the wolverine language. " Anfin!" she shouted very angry and gone back into her room ( Off topic: Anfin means "empty" in wolverine. ^_^ )

- Slowly... So slowly... Everything had been close to perfect before, so close to what her parents had wanted. They didn't know about the times she'd snuck out, until a few weeks ago. Just because she stayed out a little later than she normally did, then lost track of time. They had walked in her room to find it empty, something it should never be at two in the morning. Her father didn't know why, but he had the feeling he should check up on her, and found his feeling to be a good thing to go by.
How stupid! To let herself lose track of time like that! 'Good going moron! You should know to be more careful than that, or not go out at all!' She mentally screamed at herself over and over to the past weeks. She was forbidden to see most of her friends and going to parties. Her parents set up newer, stricter rules, her curfew was made to give her barely any time for herself after school!
Gray eyes stared out the window with little emotion, the horizon flew past the window, the only thing that let her body know the car was moving. The sky was slowly changing colors, from blue to purple if you looked one way, the other way there were a few rays of orange that represented the sun. A hand placed itself against a cheek, the gray orbs closing as a barely audible sigh escaped from lips, colored a medium pink by lipstick. This girl was on her way to New York City, for a dance school. The two adults in the front either didn't notice the sigh or ignored it, the conclusion was most likely the first.
The gray orbs slowly closed as the next sound from the girl was a soft yawn. The woman in the passenger seat heard and slightly turned her head to the side to look at the younger girl, her eyes narrowed. The girl simply continued to stare out the window quietly, until the woman turned her head around again. She gave the woman a slight glare, but when the man's eyes flicked to the rear view mirror to check the traffic behind him, her face had already become void of any emotion again. 'I'm not going to lay down in the back seat, mother. You should stop turning your head to check on me every time I make a sound.' She thought, though dared not speak aloud. If her inner voice was heard by her mother, she would be in a lot of trouble.
She didn't lay down to sleep like most teenagers and young children did when on a long road trip, instead she leaned herself against the back of her seat and slightly against the door, her head turned so that her hair covered her face from view. Her eyes slowly shut and her world went black as sleep took hold of her almost instantly. How she was positioned was normal for her, she often sat like that when she was in the car with her parents, so they said nothing of it.
✔━━✘━━✔━━✘━━✔━━✘━━✔━━✘━━✔━━✘━━✔━━✘━━✔━━✘━━✔━━✘
A few hours of sleep proved to be just what she needed. During the trip she had taken many naps, luckily never having to speak to her parents, they tended to be silent in the car, just like her. She adjusted her position and looked out the window, they seemed to already be at New York City, she blinked for a second, looking at the tall buildings and the water. Had she really fallen asleep that much? She expected to still be on the road when she woke up. She continued to stare out the window, awed, until her father frowned.
"Laura, don't sit there and stare with your mouth hanging open." He said, and the gray eyed girl, Laura, quickly looked away from the window. "I'm sorry, father." She said politely, her voice was quiet, and sounded like a low chime. They continued driving for a short while, Laura stealing glances out the window at the city. She'd been expecting this, she looked up pictures of this same city for an assignment at her high school a few years before, about the place you most wanted to visit — it was her dream to be here, dancing — but she hadn't expected that the reality of it would be so powerful.
She wanted to jump for joy, or get out of the car and pirouette until she fell, but she kept herself under control. In her head she was making notes of everything, the people and the sights. Her hand twitched, she wanted to roll the window down, to hear the noise better, to be able to smell all the different sends, though mostly she wanted to scramble out of the car and touch everything in arms length, but still, she kept herself under control. Her inward glee not present on her face. She acted just as her parents wanted her to, calm, collected, seemingly unphased by the city, as if she lived her all her live instead of Chicago, like the license plate on the back of the car said.
Soon, they reached the destination they were trying to get to, a large campus that was home to a brick building, people of all types were walking around the campus, chatting, reading, dancing, or watching others dance. Laura's eyes were instantly drawn to the people dancing. Out in the open? With no stage? On the grass? It wasn't something she was used to seeing, oddly enough, even though she lived in Chicago, were people would probably do things like that daily. They had such odd, yet enticing movements! She had never seen this kind of dancing, not even at the few parties she had gone to, which was mostly girls and guys dirty dancing, with a few just swaying back and forth holding their partners close.
She watched the dancers, hypnotized as she watched. This was so amazing! Even her fathers throat-clearing didn't snap her out of her awed state. Her face was like it was when she first saw the city, amazed and intrigued. "Laura!" The firm voice got her attention as she whipped her head around, eyes wide to look at her father, her hair flying around her and settling over and behind her shoulder. "Stop getting that foolish look on your face! These dancers have no class!" He said, motioning to the dancers she had been staring at.
Just as he had started to speak, Laura's mother opened the door, allowing the dancers to hear. They were fuming with rage when the comment was made, one of the braver ones walking over to the trio. It was a girl with short, choppy black hair, her eyes were blue and her skin was darker than Laura's by a few shades. Her voice was accented with a Korean accent. "Back off, old man, I bet we could dance circles around you're little miss priss here!" The girl said, her arms crossed.
"Jea, just ignore 'em!" A boy's voice called out. The same boy walked over and took the girl, Jea's, shoulder gently. He was African-American, dark skin with brown eyes, his head was shaved, though the black hair was growing back. He looked at Laura, who looked back at him with a calm expression as she got out of the car. "Can't wait to see what you got, lil' miss." He said and pulled the Korean girl away with him as he left.
Laura stayed quiet as her father and mother fumed over 'impolite teenagers' and how they made it to this school. Finally, they calmed and got Laura's things out, giving them to her. She didn't have much, a back pack to put on her back and a rolling suitcase that had a few necessities. There was also a purse that hung over her left shoulder, the strap going over her chest for the actual purse to rest against her right hip. The purse had her make up, some money, and a few other small trinkets that a purse normally holds. She said goodbye to her parents, and they drove away without a back wards glance at their daughter.
When they were gone, a happy sigh escaped Laura's lips, she was still in public so she couldn't show all of her excitement, and she headed to the doors, a big smile on her face. Oh how she looked forward to this school, even if she had no choice in coming or not.
