Legitimate Reasons to Report
Here are the more common reasons to report someone, and when to do it.
Spamming
Spam is allowed in the Chattebox forum ONLY. If you are posting somewhere else, and another user posts something random and unrelated to the subject, you can report them for spamming. Use the

Signature Size/Content
If their signature has a picture of a naked person, that would be the 'content' and in that case, 'inappropriate'. Or if their signature has hateful or racist words toward another person/group. Size is also an issue, which is covered in the Rules & Guidelines section. It must be under 500x500 pixels (dimensions) and 100,000 bytes.
Offsite Trading
That's if someone tries to trade Gaia related items or gold for anything non-Gaia related. Such as, "I'll give you twenty dollars for 200,000 gold!"
Remember, art is a different story. You can buy art/graphics at the mini shops for Gaia gold.
Offsite Advertising
That's a pretty easy one. Don't advertise other sites on Gaia, in posts. You can have links in your signature and profile, only. You can advertise in the Chatterbox in your posts, nowhere else.
Trolling/Abuse
Posting material that is intended to offend another person or group.
Password Phishing
No one should ever ask for your password at any time. If anyone does, even if they appear to be a mod/admin, report them.
Inappropriate Content
Over the top violent or gore images, copyrighted material, or anything else against the rules (except for Sexually Explicit Material, that's below)
Sexually Explicit Content
Asking for or posting material of a sexual nature.
Underage Users
By California state law, Gaia has been deemed PG-13. That means you must be 13 and older to join and be active on GaiaOnline. If you find someone underage, please report them. If they state on their profile they are below 13, copy the url and send it via PM to a moderator. If they state it as a post/topic/comment/etc, screenshot it and send the image AND the link to the post/topic/etc to a moderator via PM.
Hacking
Quote:
Hacking, on Gaia Online, refers to the unauthorized access of an account by someone other than the account owner. In most typical hacking cases, an unauthorized person enters an account which does not belong to him or her and takes items or gold from the account, often changing the account information so that the original owner can no longer access his or her account.
Scamming
Quote:
Scamming is when another member of Gaia takes your gold or items, or tries to take your gold or items, by making false promises of giving you rare items, get-rich-quick schemes, or by any other deceptive means. Scamming generally involves a situation in which two members of Gaia make an arrangement to trade gold, items, or a Gaia approved service (e.g. avatar art commission) with each other and then one of the parties involved in the arrangement fails to live up to his or her promise of an exchange.
IMPORTANT NOTE:
Scamming does NOT involve the loss of your account or the direct theft of your items/gold. If you cannot access your account, or someone else has gone into your account and taken your items or gold, this is not scamming but hacking and needs to be reported using the Hacking Report Form
IMPORTANT NOTE:

Quote:
Please do not report posts simply for swearing, bad attitude, or issues not covered in the Gaia Online ToS. Additionally, do not submit multiple reports for the same post, or otherwise abuse this reporting tool. Only submit this form for the exact post that is breaking the Gaia ToS or Forum Rules, and provide as much detail as possible as to why it's being reported.

Here is what the report will look like.

That's an easy one. Give the username of the scammed account NOT the one you are filling out the report with.

Another easy one. Who scammed you? Give their username.

When did you get scammed? Please provide as close to the time as possible. If you are unsure, give a specific range of dates. Don't just say 'sometime this weekend'. Say, "between late Saturday night and early Sunday morning".

Give as much detail as you can. Don't say "he took my shirt." Instead, say "We had agreement that I would provide ____ and he would give me ____. I gave him my ___ but he never gave me his ____." Include a screenshot of the agreement. If you are unsure how to take a screenshot, view the important links on page 5. Do not link directly to PM's. Moderators cannot see your PM's, only you can. Instead, take a screenshot.

List the items that were taken, or gold. Say you were commisioned for art, and the buyer agreed to pay 100,000 gold. If you finished the art, and he refuses to give you the gold, say here that the buyer owes you the 100,000 gold, because you have finished his art. That is only an example.

Here you can add any information that is relevant to the scam.

The verfication and confirm page, simple. Type in the two words as you see them (they won't be those exact words). And click submit.
If the report refreshes, you didn't fill it out completely or the browser hiccuped. Try a different broswer. Once you submit the report, you will be given a confirmation number. Keep that handy, so if you have questions you can give it to a moderator and they can find your case easily.

* You can no longer access your account and have already tried the Gaia Online account recovery system.
* You can access your account, but notice that items and/or gold are missing from your account's inventory.
* You notice your account has been used in a malicious manner to violate the Terms of Service of Gaia Online and you were not responsible for the inappropriate content that was posted.

* You notice your account has been used in a malicious manner to violate the Terms of Service of Gaia Online and you were not responsible for the inappropriate content that was posted.
Here is what the report will look like.

That's an easy one. Give the username of the hacked account. (Even if you regained control of the hacked account.)

What was the email of the account? Some hackers may change the email of the account so its important to give the email, your email. If the email is old, not valid, etc, give an email account that does not have a Gaia account.

When did you get hacked? Please provide as close to the time as possible. If you are unsure, give a specific range of dates. Don't just say 'sometime this weekend'. Say, "between late Saturday night and early Sunday morning".

Easy one again. Do you have any friends/family on Gaia as well? Usually a hacking occurs from a friend who you gave your password too, and they turn out not to be a friend at all. Don't worry, they won't just ban a friend because you listed them.

Do you share a computer with someone, and do they have a Gaia too? Sometimes people can hack your Gaia through the shared computer, especially if you use the 'save password' feature.

Give all the mules you have.

You want it all back don't you? Of course you do. It's wise to regularly take a screenshot of your entire inventory and save it. If you are hacked, you could get every item back with that screenshot. If you don't remember every item, list all the ones you do. Also, gold. If you don't remember the exact amount, that's okay. Don't lie though. If you were hacked of 200K, don't try saying "They stole 2 million!" Moderators investigate and can tell how much and what was taken.

Most people are subject to the "I'm a moderator, you were reported, I need your password!" scam. Don't fall for those. If you did receive a PM as such, say it here. If you don't know how you were hacked, or if you think someone hacked you by brute force (guessing your password) say that.

The verfication and confirm page, simple. Type in the two words as you see them (they won't be those exact words). And click submit.

Report Abuse or Harassment
Here is a list to the report.
If you find that someone is continually harassing you in multiple ways, please fill out this form. If it is harassment in a PM or post, report the PM or post instead. This form is if the user is continually harassing you through different means.
Make sure to include as much of the following as you can.
Quote:
* Quotes of relevant Private Messages
* Links to abuse/harassment occurring on the forums
* Links to abuse/harassment occurring in user profiles
* Report reference numbers
* Screenshots of abuse/harassment occurring on Gaia.
* If this is an issue with a comment left on your profile, please leave it up until a moderator handles your case, or take a screenshot and submit it as proof within your report.

* Report reference numbers
* Screenshots of abuse/harassment occurring on Gaia.
* If this is an issue with a comment left on your profile, please leave it up until a moderator handles your case, or take a screenshot and submit it as proof within your report.

The username is NOT your own, but of the person who is harassing you. Your username and IP address is automatically sent with any report. Please give a valid reason for reporting. Do not report someone for abuse/harassment if they swore at you once. A good reason would be that the person has continually targeted you, calling you names , spreading rumors about you, etc.

Report in Journals and Profiles
Here's how to report a journal/comment in journal.
If you find a journal is in violation of the rules, click the

Make sure to fill it all out. Give a valid reason as well. Things like "there's swear words" will not be accepted. Once you are done, click submit.
There is no option for reporting a comment on journals. If you find that you must report a comment on your journal (remember, you cannot report a comment on someone else's journal. The owner must do that) be sure not to delete the comment. Screenshot it and send it in a PM to a moderator. Or give them the link to your journal, and specify which comment it is that is against the rules.
If you find a profile is inappropriate (for example, nude pictures, or flashing images), you copy the url of the profile and send it in a PM to a moderator. They will remove the images. There is also no option to report on comments in profiles. Similar to the journal, you must screenshot (do not delete the comment), and send the link to your profile and the screenshot to a moderator. Once they have handled the report, they will either delete it or tell you that you can delete it.

When you are in the aquarium, on the left you will see the avatar's head. On the right you will see

Give a valid reason for the report. If it violates the rules, post it there. Do not report a comment simply because it says "your aquariums sucks" or if it has swearing. The url is long, but it will take the moderator who gets the report to the tank in question. Fill out the two words and click submit report.
Aquarium Bottles
If you feel an aquarium bottle message is against the rules, also report it! When you are viewing the message, there is a small link in the bottom corner that says "Report".

It will take you to this page.

Select the reason for the report, add any additional details, and click submit!

After a Report has been Sent
After a report has been sent, you may keep the confirmation number for future reference. I highly suggest this if you are reporting a hacking/scamming. If you sent a report for spamming/trolling/etc, you do not have to keep the confirmation number. Sometimes (but not always) the moderator who handled your report will send you a PM, saying "Thank You For Your Report." They'll tell you what you reported and why, then thank you for using the reporting system.
For hacking/scamming cases, it is very important to remain patient. Unfortunately many reports are sent daily, and moderators have to investigate deep into every case. Moderating is a volunteer position, and many moderators are in college or work, so they cannot be online all the time. If you want a progress report, you can politely ask a moderator. Do not PM more than one. Make sure to give them the confirmation number so they can check which case it is.
Remember, sometimes not all items/gold can be given back. Most of the time it is, but if there is such a case that a moderator cannot get all the items back, don't be mad. It was not that the moderator didn't try, it was just impossible to track it down.
Please be sure to thank the moderator who handled your report. They took time out of their day to help you, and they deserve recognition for their hard work.
