Closer to the Sky I Reach: 160 cm 5' 3"

Yet Held Down to the Earth I am: 50 kg 110 lbs.

Look Into the Windows of my Soul: Reddish brown eyes.

What the Wind Blows Through: Sea green Naturally dark auburn

The Shape of Who I Am: Her most striking feature is her large, doey eyes, set over lips that are more full than one would expect given her generally slight build, and that are usually smiling wide, unguarded smiles. Indeed, her expressing, sunny, smiling face is her biggest selling point, and is what the marketing specialists prefer to highlight in photo shoots. She is not tall, and neither particularly skinny nor curvaceous, and has mediocre bust and hips. Her shyness and meekness make her posture defensive, so she looks smaller and younger than she really us because she is usually drawn up into herself. She tends to avoid eye contact when talking, squeezing her arms against herself, and bunching slightly down and toying at the ground with her feet while smiling and blushing - a trait that has endeared her to her fans.

How I Present Myself to the World: Violette absolutely loves anything lacy, or frilly and flowing, with bows and ribbons galore, and not just for her stage clothing. Even her day-to-day clothing consists mostly of dresses - from simple, light summer dresses, to layered, lacy outfits - always in light colours, never darks. She doesn't even own a pair of jeans or sweatpants, and the only pair of shorts she owns is solely for the purpose of being worn over her swimsuit. She also accessorizes with bows and ribbons as if it were a fetish, at the very least usually tying her hair up in two bunches.

What Marks Distinguish Me?: Other than a pair of piercings on each ear, no distinguishing marks.

Worth a Thousand Words:
__ Meet Vi,
__ Famous for her large eyes and full lips,
__ But painfully shy.
__ Natural born performer,
__ But lousy dancer.
__ With a love of beautiful dresses,
__ Even when performing.

:Personality

Despite her fame and success, Violette was always painfully shy and weak-willed. She lacked the spirit to be assertive, or even to make eye contact with people. Her life was controlled by her parents, her publicists, her image managers and her partner. Whatever anyone said, Vi did; whatever it took to avoid confrontation.

Or at least, she would do whatever it took to make it look like she was compliant. Secretly, she is quite vindictive, spiteful, and petty, and when people ask her to do something she does not want to do, rather than simply having the courage to say no, she will say yes, but do something to secretly sabotage the effort. Either that, or she will take a spiteful revenge on them because they forced to do something she did not want to do (even though that is usually not true – a simple “no, thank you, I would rather not” would have gotten her out of it). She holds long grudges against people that she feels push her around, even if they were not really pushing her around – Violette blames them for her own weakness. She is not aggressive in that she will never take anyone or anything head on, but she will fight dirty, secret wars against anyone that she feels has harmed her, and she will be nasty about it.

But Vi is growing up, and she is, for the first time in her life, finding strength in herself to find her own path. She still lacks the courage to face confrontation directly, and she still begrudges stronger people that she ends up submitting to because she cannot sum up the courage to say no, but she is quietly and carefully exploring her own assertiveness. Coming to Emerald Hills Academy was the first thing she has ever chosen to do on her own in her life (although, it wasn’t much of a battle because her parents did not raise any objections). Her secret considerations about joining girl-group Morning Breeze are another symptom of a growing backbone... and that decision would lead to serious conflicts, but Violette is slowly growing more and more determined... it is too early to say whether she will have strength enough to do it despite everything.

:Biography

Even as a small child, goaded on by her parents, Violette loved to perform. A painfully shy child, she would never play or interact with other children, but whenever she got the chance to perform for anyone – parents or children – Violette would rise to the occasion. There was no doubt that she was a natural. Everyone said it, her parents believed it. They started grooming Violette for a life on stage, and Violette didn’t mind – in fact, she was thrilled about it. She had always been unable to make friends, but whenever performing, she felt like everyone in the room was a personal friend of hers, and she performed for each and every one of them personally.

At first, it was an activity as far as her parents were concerned – like after-school clubs – but before long it became an obsession. They enrolled Violette in play after play, pageant after pageant, with such growing frequency that school became almost pointless and they were hiring tutors. And while hiring tutors to teach academics, they hired vocal coaches, acting coaches, piano coaches, guitar coaches, dancing coaches. Nothing but the best for their little rising star Violette, and it started to pay off handsomely. On the one hand, Violette was sorry about being taken out of school, but on the other the thrill of performing to bigger and bigger audiences took the sting out of it. She had never been much for making friends at school anyway.

Eventually, her budding career was her life, and she pained for social contact with people her age, but at the same time was too meek to tell her parents to tone down their thrust to make her a star... and too shy to make friends with any people her age she came into contact with anyway. It was about this time that her parents finally noticed her true gift.

Violette’s greatest strength had always been her singing voice – she wasn’t a bad actress, but she would never be one of the greats, and her dancing was... let’s be generous and call it mediocre. It took some time to notice it, because Violette always spoke so softly, and even stuttered when she spoke normally, but she was always humming and singing wordless tunes to herself, and eventually her parents noticed how powerfully her voice opened up on stage. They quickly jumped on this, hiring vocal coaches to make her powerful and angelic voice even more so. One of them finally noticed that the wordless tunes that Violette hummed and sang to herself were... beautiful. Simply beautiful. She pointed this out to Violette’s parents... and a career was born.

A talent agent was hastily contacted, and upon hearing Violette’s vocal audition was surprised that so young a girl had such a powerfully nuanced, adult voice. But more importantly, she recognized the potential in Violette’s little tunes. She quickly arranged a meeting between Violette and a boy who had a gift for lyrics. Although Violette was reluctant about the meeting, and horrifically shy through it, in the end, after tentatively crafting a song together with the other boy, she saw, for the first time, one of her wordless tunes become a song... a real song. Driving home after the meeting, her parents were unsure about the pairing (envisioning that Vi would be a solo artist), but seeing that Violette was so satisfied, they gave it their blessing.

And Sparc en Ciel was born. Violette was given an image to fit – girlish, feminine, fascinated with flowery things – that was partly based on her actual personality, and partly crafted by her image people to capitalize on her youth and youthful appearance. Violette fell into the role without complaint... at first.

They charted right away – not spectacularly, but still on the charts – and slowly rose to moderate fame with further pop hits. Violette’s music was infectious and catchy – at the request of the marketing people and the band manager more so than what she wanted to write – and Sparc en Ciel developed a cult fan following. Violette adored the fans, and interacted closely with them – which just made them love her more – and her trademark sunny smile, bad dancing and hand gesture became signals shared amongst the fans like club handshakes. Violette was never so happy as when a complete stranger would smile at her from across the street and raise her trademark hand signal, to which she would raise it reply, smile and wink.

But despite all of this, Violette started to quietly chafe at the fact that she was being marketed as a “child sensation” even though she was in her teens (her small frame and child-like large eyes and unguarded smile made this possible). She started grow tired of writing bubblegum pop and wanted to try something more serious and adult. She tried dropping subtle hints to her parents and managers, but they wouldn’t even hear of it. “Don’t break the formula”, they would say. Violette started to grow more resentful of Sparc en Ciel.

Then, through private channels, she was approached by the manager for a well-known girl group called Morning Breeze. Their oldest member was retiring from the band (to become a mother), and they wanted a fresh young face. Career wise, it was a dream come true: Morning Breeze’s records sold a thousand times more than Sparc en Ciel’s. From an artistic standpoint, it was compelling: the band appealed to a much more mature image, she would get to draft her own “persona” and each member of Morning Breeze got to write at least one song each album, with total creative control. And from a personal standpoint, it was liberating: the thrill of finally doing something on her own – without her parents arranging it all for her – was quite appealing to Violette.

The invitation to Emerald Hills Academy came at a time when she needed to breathe, and her parents agreed – although they didn’t understand what she was going through, they sensed she needed a break. Unknown to them, Violette had questions to wrestle with: whether to leave Sparc en Ciel behind and join Morning Breeze, and most importantly... how to become herself, on her own terms.

___ Violet eyes, always opened wide, looking off into the distance, and shining with excitement. Miss Summers also wears half-rim corrective glasses, but her prescription is not very strong, which is lucky since she often forgets them in her absent-mindedness.

H a i r _ :
___ Originally a deep auburn-red, chemically lightened to almost pink (accidentally), normally held up in a messy bun.

P h y s i q u e _ :
___ Kaitlin Summers is one of those rare lucky people that not only had beautiful parents, but got the best bits of both of them in her genes. Her mother, the lingerie model, gave her the shapely, full body of a model, with large breasts and wide hips. However, she got her father's height and lanky grace, as well as his soft, kind facial features. Her mother's full lips and her father's goofy, unguarded smile; her mother's small nose and her father's high cheekbones; her mother's thick lashes and her father's large, honest eyes; her mother's silky, voluminous hair and her father's fair complexion. However, there were some misfires: she got her father's clumsy, carefree posture and movements, and her mother's propensity to fidget restlessly with anything within reach (including her own hair and clothing).

S t y l e _ :
___ Her taste in clothing is quite refined, considering, and she dresses in a classically business-like although feminine style. She prefers muted colours and cuts that are flattering without being revealing. She has a quirk about short-sleeved or three-quarter-sleeved shirts, and never wears them, preferring either long-sleeved blouses or sweaters, often with vests or blazers over top, and never anything with a low-cut collar because her chest already gets her far too much unwanted attention. She also has a quirk about pants - long or short - and prefers skirts, at least as low as the knees, but often lower. And she always pins her hair up in a bun and wears glasses because she believes it makes her look smarter. However, despite her professional clothing, she tends to wear it sloppily, sometimes a size or two too large, or sitting askew on her frame, giving her an oddly frumpled or frazzled appearance.

D i s t i n g u i s h i n g _ M a r k s _ :
___ Miss Summers has dozens of small imperfections from former scars and burns due to dozens and dozens of small lab mishaps over the years, although nothing is noticeable unless you look closely.

P e r s o n a l i t y _ :
___ On the surface, Kaitlin fits the stereotypical definition of the absent-minded scientist, walking around with a glazed look, lost in thought. She has even been known to walk into pools, or leave her apartment with her skirt on inside-out, or breeze right by someone trying to talk to her when she is deep in thought. A conversation with her can be quite surreal, because often her mind is somewhere else completely rather than on the conversation in question, leading to peculiar non-sequiturs. She is skittish and socially awkward, not particularly shy, but she avoids both confrontations and conversations equally, not out of fear, but because they are distracting. Whenever someone talks to her, they often get the distinct impression that Kaitlin would rather be off writing equations rather than being there talking to them.

___ Part of this is due to the fact that, throughout her school and university careers, she has been cursed with her mother's body. Most would not call this a curse, but Kaitlin would, because throughout her academic career, she found herself being judged by teachers, professors and even fellow students as a brainless bimbo simply because of her looks. She began deliberately dressing down to make herself look frumpier and less attractive, just to get more respect for her intellect (and the habit stuck, to this day). In fact, she even began to resent her looks, and is very hostile to anyone that she feels is judging her by her looks.

___ Kaitlin is also very much a product of her parents: and she has chosen her father's side in everything. She disdains her mother's career - modelling - as well as anything that is based primarily on looks and not brains (including acting, for example). At the same time, most of her career choices revolve around what she feels might make her father happy; she is definitely a daddy's girl.

___ Her teaching style is simple, but effective: she truly loves what she is teaching, and that love is infectious. She believes in engaging the students, and explaining not only what they need to know, but why they need to know it, and is fond of calling on examples from movies and anime to prove her points. In fact, she gets so thrilled when her students are really into it that she dances around the class hugging and kissing them in her excitement... which has caused problems for her professionally. At the same time, she gets frustrated easily with students that don't care, and don't even want to try, and doesn't hide her annoyance from them.

S e x u a l _ P r e f e r e n c e _ :
___ Bisexual

B i o g r a p h y _ :
___ Kaitlin's father was a brilliant physicist researching X-ray crystallography and her mother was a relatively successful lingerie model when they met. Depending on who you ask, she either fell head over heels for his goofy, disarming charm, or she realized the comfort potential in marrying a prestigious physicist - not buckets of money, but enough, and he would be so busy with his work she could do what she wanted. Regardless of which story you believe, they married, and had Kaitlin some years later.

___ Right from the start there were signs of trouble. Her mother wanted to name her Kaitlin because it was a very marketable name should their child want to follow in her mother's footsteps as a model when she grew up - with visions of her daughter calling herself Kaitlin Kennedy, using her mother's maiden (and still professional) name. Her father wanted to give her a name in honour of a great female scientist - choosing Rosalind after Rosalind Franklin - and he wanted her to have his last name: Summers. The compromise they settled on - Kaitlin Rosalind Kennedy-Summers - shows who had more pull in those early arguments.

___ But once her mother had recovered from the pregnancy and gone back to work, Kaitlin spent virtually all of her time with her father. He took her to work, and she grew up playing with oscilloscopes and electron guns as her toys, being the darling of the physics department her father worked in. She was saying she wanted to be a physicist like daddy almost as soon as she could speak, and held no interest in her mother's modelling career.

___ So when the marriage went sour, and the recriminations started flying, Kaitlin became, as most kids of divorcing couples do, a pawn in their fight against each other. Unfortunately for her mother, she was firmly on her father's side. Things got nasty, with her mother accusing her father of manipulating her against her mother, and Kaitlin getting infuriated at the fact that her mother thought she was dumb enough to be that easily manipulated, so that when her mother finally left, although she got partial custody, she stopped exercising it almost right away. In retaliation, Kaitlin started referring to herself as Kaitlin Summers rather than Kaitlin Kennedy-Summers (and she would have chosen Rosalind Summers if the name "Rosalind" had no been so dreadful).

___ Thus Kaitlin grew up with her father, becoming more and more like him, much to his amusement. But by then she was starting to grow into her mother's physique, and the boys were starting to notice. However, Kaitlin believed (as her father did) that people should be judged on their brains, not their looks, so she responded badly to early advances by boys, and ended up withdrawing to a life of social isolation all through high school. She was the perfect nerd, avoiding all social contact in favour of curling up in hidden corners with books, but performing spectacularly in school. However, she was also the girl that most boys (and some girls) wanted, and they pursued her relentlessly, much to her annoyance.

___ As Kaitlin was entering university, her father was moving to more and more prestigious positions in his university - teaching less, and doing more administrative work - and he began griping about wishing he had just gone into teaching. So Kaitlin breezed through university quickly, with stellar marks, while hearing her father say over and over how much he wished he had not gone into research, but had become a teacher instead. It should have been no surprise then, that when she finally graduated - with honours - rather than following a research career, she made the shocking decision to become a simple teacher.

___ Unfortunately, griping aside, her father had always been a natural research scientist, not a teacher... and Kaitlin was the same. She knew her stuff... but she knew it so well that she would easily overload her poor students with information they were not yet ready to process. However, the biggest problems were Kaitlin's social awkwardness and her absent-mindedness... and her looks.

___ Although Kaitlin was always oblivious to sexual attraction, most of the students in her classes were not. A young teacher with a lingerie model's body... it should not be necessary to say how popular she became. And they quickly learned that if they managed to get her talking excitedly about some obscure physics topic, she would lose her inhibitions, skipping around the class with a huge smile, hugging and kissing any student that said anything insightful or clever. This had two effects. On the good side, it resulted in her class being very good at physics. On the bad side, it attracted the attention of the parents... who were not at all thrilled with their children getting that kind of stimulation in class.

___ Despite having classes with some of the highest scores in both A- and O-levels in physics in the entire country, Kaitlin was on the verge of losing her job because of her... friendliness... with her students, which, although it was entirely innocent on her part, it was not always entirely innocent on theirs (on an average day, her inbox would be the only one full, with half of the notes being angry letters from parents, and half being love letters from students). If she lost her teaching job, then she could easily fall back on a promising research career (or, god forbid, a modelling career, which her mother still often offers to give her a hand into), but that would mean failing at her father's dream. That was when she received the invitation to teach at Emerald Hills, her one last chance at being a teacher.
