A spring breeze tousled through her hair as she walked. Phaerna passed, not on the main streets of Barton, but to the side of them through the spindly thickets of trees that foamed with white and pink blossoms. Some went walking like this in hopes of meeting someone they knew. Others did it to ponder at things that weighed on their mind in hopes the fragrant winds and songs of the wildlife would soothe their troubles.

Today, Phae had no reason whatsoever for being here except to enjoy the fact that things were green once more. With the cold of winter fully receded, life sprang anew from everywhere and the young lady was within her element. As she stepped over a tangle of newly-bloomed violets, their former occupant, a white butterfly, took alarmed flight.

She gasped as the insect briefly bumbled itself against her skirts and face in a whisper of white wingtips, before righting itself enough to fly in the other direction. Looking after it for a long moment, she allowed herself a smile and then, on a whim, moved to follow in the direction it had gone. Why not? Her journey had been aimless thus far, and following a creature that was equally-aimless seemed to make as much sense as anything.

It was not until she'd turned slightly to slip between two bushes that she stopped short, realizing that the place she'd chosen to wander wasn't quite as uninhabited as she'd first thought. It was easy to forget that, woods or no, people lived here, as she found herself standing on the edge of a yard that bordered a small house.

And there were people.

And they were talking.

Her cheeks burned as she moved to step back the way she'd come, hoping they would continue to focus on one another.
