Hello! This is Cindy Donovinh with Gaia Action 9 News.
It’s been a busy week for Gaia. There have been several useful site updates, and things seem to be getting stranger and stranger as Halloween approaches.
I’ve just been handed this urgent bulletin from the Gaia Staff, so let’s read it:

We’ve been working like crazy to make the site easier to use. The fruits of our labor are being brought out at a breakneck pace, and we’ve got some exciting improvements to tell you about:
The Friend List system has been updated! We’ve entirely revamped the Friend List system to make it much easier to use, and we’ve made a bunch of improvements and fixes to its various features. Get out there and make some friends, you shut-in hermit! You’ve got no excuses for being alone anymore!
Everyone, even the smartest person in the universe (me), forgets their password sometimes. It’s okay, we don’t blame you! In fact, we’ve even made it easier to retrieve your password when you forget it. Now you can forget your password all the time with reckless abandon! No, just kidding, that would be unwise.
And speaking of logging in, be advised that we’re phasing out the “security question” feature, since it was causing too many problems. This means that it’s very important that you remember the e-mail address you used to sign up for your account! Write it down! Memorize it!
And as long as I’m still blabbering on about passwords and stuff, have we told you lately that you should never tell your password to anyone? We don’t know how many times we’ll have to say it before people stop giving their passwords away, but I might as well try saying it one more time: never give your password to anyone! Unless you like getting all your stuff stolen, because that’s what will happen.

Have you seen all the new items? No? Well go look at them! Check out the ferocious Raptor set in HR Wesley, the ghoulish Drop Dead Gorgeous and Dead Sexy lines in Gambino Outfitters, and the festive Autumn Stripes set in Crate & Apparel.
You can also make yourself look unreasonably emotional with our giant, silly Emote Masks, available in the Durem Depot, or improve your eyesight tenfold with our miraculous Giant Eyeballs in the Barton Boutique.

Old Man Logan’s weathered, rugged old brain has once again creaked into action, and he finally remembered to put up this month’s fishing trophies. Thanks, Logan!
Click here to see all the finest fishermen (and fisherwomen).
It reminds me of a heartwarming, folksy old saying: “Give a man a fish, and he’ll eat for a day. Teach a man about Gaia Fishing, and he will sit in front of the computer for so long that he starves to death.” Hey, wait a minute, that isn’t very heartwarming at all!

We’ve heard some alarming rumbles about Aliens lately, and it’s becoming ever clearer that something BIG is brewing. Who are these creepy alien beings? Are they good or evil? What do they want?
And for that matter, who the devil is this Ron Bruise character who’s been prancing around the forums, posting nonsense and frightening the citizenry? His terrifying reign of “WOOOOOing” and couch-jumping has whipped the Gaian populace into a state of near-panic, and it looks like things are going to get worse before they get better.
Stay tuned, Gaians. Creepy business is afoot, and we don’t think you’ll want to miss it!

Hey guys, I’m Chainey, the horrible, stinking, ungodly Chain Letter Monster! Pity me, for I should not exist! I am a hideous abomination! Wheeee!
As long as I’ve got your attention, allow me to gently grab you by the scruff of the neck and educate you about chain letters. Don’t worry, it will be relatively painless!
What is a Chain Letter?
In Gaian terms, a chain letter is any private message or forum post that asks you to pass it on to a bunch of other people. It might say “send this to a dozen people,” or “send this to everyone on your friend list,” or “send this to everyone with a silly red hat.” Whatever.
Why are Chain Letters Dumb?
I’m glad you asked! Chain letters are dumb for plenty of reasons.
- They’re annoying and spammy. Most people don’t like them!
They’re usually filled with lies and misinformation! They won’t help you get gold, they won’t get you banned if you don’t pass them along, and they won’t give you good luck if you do!
Chain letters will get you banned! They’re totally against the rules!
Hey, are These Chain Letters?
- Petitions that ask you to add your name and send the list to 10 people are chain letters. Requests for Gaia features only be posted in the petition subforum
Private messages that tell you a ghost is going to pop out and kill you if you don’t pass the letter to a bunch of people are chain letters! It will never happen. We promise. If a ghost actually kills you because of a chain letter, we will personally apologize to you and send you a fruit basket!
Private messages claiming that Gaia is going to be shut down, or will start charging money, are chain letters. Not true! If we’re going to make a change to the site, we’ll tell you about it (and it won’t be in the form of a chain letter!)
If something says your account will be deleted if you don’t pass it on, it’s a chain letter. Please report any messages like this to the moderators right away. It’s a chain-scam!
Messages that say you’ll have bad luck if you don’t pass them on are chain letters. Not true! But you will have bad luck if you do pass them on: you might get banned!
If it looks like a chain letter, it’s a chain letter, okay? Use some common sense. Letters that ask you to pass them around are chain letters. So don’t pass them around!
When is it Okay to Send a Chain Letter?
The only time you should forward a chain letter to anyone is when you’re reporting it to a moderator. It’s as easy as that!
