From the classic gaia lesbians, I made them a humpback whale and an orca! I drew rosamund first so she's smaller, oops.


From the related L'Histoire Mesphite, Saffron is the first nonbinary NPC on Gaia! She's a Lion's Mane jellyfish, famous for the sizes they can attain but I personally remember them from the red blobs on the beach the camp counsellors told us not to touch. While not fatal, their sting does hurt like a b***h.


Next I have the first it/its character and its husband, from Cocklebur King. the beast and the hunter change into each others' species during the story so I made diff versions for them! The Beast is initially a sunflower starfish, and the Hunter is a geoduck. The "human" Beast is a little neck clam, and the "beastly" Hunter is your bog standard starfish. Of course I drew some cockleburs with them.

I couldn't resist making one npc that iconic bivalve. I've heard starfish referred to as "the wolves of the sea" because they're quite speedy compared to other tidepool inhabitants they prey on. I once spent an hour at a touchtank watching a sunflower starfish hunting down a clam, which would stick its neck (siphon) out and fling itself away. Geoducks aren't a starfish's prey, since they burrot deep into sand at the lowest tidelines.


Next we have a trio of celestial beings as sessile animals. Azrael is a mussel, Ciro is a chiton (which doe come in blue-green!), and the Hell Warden is a barnacle. As I've said elsewhere, my mom would tell me barnacle facts when we walked along rocky beaches in the Puget Sound. "they stand on their heads and catch food with their feet!" It's a fun way of describing their cilli. Another fun fact is that the barnacles' p***s is four times the length of their body: now thats big d**k energy!


Finally one of my favorite shop NPCs is Stein! I like to think of him as a nb person, since it's not like he had a gender assigned at birth. I had fun coloring this one, especially that yellow florist's nose. Although this creature looks like an octopus, it's actually a Stubby Squid, Rossia pacifica. Small and cute, this mollusk is a bit of a celebrity, famously spotted and cooed over by the Nautius Live crew.
