                                                      Our story begins long ago, well about five years ago to be exact. You see, five years ago, one of the most popular pop bands in existence, By the Way, were seniors in high school. They weren't considered popular, but they were rather happy. They were all dating wonderful girls, and were looking at attending college and a happy future with the girls they loved. But that all changed one night when they played a gig and got spotted by a record producer. He loved their sound, and signed them, wanting to have them on his label.

                                                      This was supposed to be great news, at least until the boys were informed of when their tour started, exactly two weeks after graduation and for an entire year. This shouldn't of been a problem, the boys thought their relationships were strong enough to survive that. But as the days came closer, the boys found themselves keeping their tour a secret from the girls. Why? Because as they spent time with the girls they loved, they realized it wouldn't be fair to make them wait for their tour to be over, to force the girls to attend college with a boyfriend somewhere overseas. It was a hard decision, but the boys got together and made a pact to break up with their girlfriends the day before they left.

                                                      The girls all handled it differently, some cried, some got mad, and one even disappeared for a while, but none of them understood. They couldn't understand where their relationship had gone wrong. They tried to move on, but soon they started hearing their exes songs on the radio, most of which were written about them.

                                                      It's been five years since that, and for the most part the girls have moved on. They all live their own lives now. Most of the girls have graduated college and are beginning their adult lives, while the boys have just wrapped up their fourth album. The boys haven't been home in five years, but now they all have plane tickets home. Why? Because they have been asked to play in the town's annual summer fair, and the idea of coming home after so long is much too appealing to turn down. Plus, a few still have feelings for their ex girlfriends and hope that seeing them might just put a spark back in the relationship.

                                                      Can these couples find their way back to each other? Or are they better off apart?

                                                      General: To help you (and me) out, I'm going to section and title these based upon what type of rule they are. Ready? Let's begin! First, follow Gaia TOS, meaning if clothes come off then the word time skip goes down. Let's keep it PG-13 shall we? Second, swearing is allowed, but don't make it every other word please, I don't need complaints.

                                                      Posting: This is a lit to advanced lit RP. I don't have a minimum, just give people something to reply to (though I prefer at least two paragraphs). As for a maximum, there is none. Sometimes, it takes eight paragraphs to get a point across, sometimes two, so I'm not about to limit you here. Also, all posts need to be in fonts between 9-11. No text talk, unless your character is texting. Unless they are texting, no text talk. Next, please italicize thoughts, bold and color spoken words, and decorate your posts! Please have at least a picture of your character and maybe some quotes or song lyrics with it or something, just make it pretty! Also, please try to have somewhat correct grammar! The occasional mistake I understand (commas are not my friend) but too many grammar mistakes can make a post an eyesore!

                                                      Applying: My application is pretty simple. Just fill out the reserve form! Also, when you apply you need to include samples. I won't accept your PM if you don't have samples (only exception, if I have RPed with you before). Speaking of accepting, to be accepted you need to title the reserves 'Why I Can't' and as for the profiles... there are none! I'm trusting you to create an amazing character and I know that profiles can sometimes limit you. So no profiles!

                                                      Time: I will post time skips to keep things moving along. However, that doesn't mean you can wait three weeks to post, that isn't fair to whoever is waiting for you. To make it fair, I ask that you post at least twice a week, and if you can't for whatever reason please let me know!

                                                      Characters: In the beginning, everyone can have a maximum of two characters, but they have to balance each other out. Guys are really hard to find in the RP world for some reason, so you can play two males if you want, but you can't play two females.

                                                      Character descriptions: For a majority of the characters, I have included a small backstory just to let you know a little about them. You are welcome to expand upon that as you see fit. I want all characters to be creative, so feel free to expand!

He was always a flirt in school, and was known for being able to get any girl he wanted. At least until he met his girlfriend. She was the first girl to turn him down, and the first girl to catch his interest for more than a few minutes. He had to be persistent to get her to go out with him, and by the time he got a date with her, he was determined to make the relationship work. After the break up, he's gone back to his flirty ways, and is often seen with a different model on his arm at every award show. But recently, he's getting bored of the models and wants to see if his ex still has that spark.

He grew up being bullied, and the first time he met his girlfriend was when she stood up for him. They were six years old, and he quickly became friends with her. When he got interested in girls, she was the first girl he had feelings for. It took him two years to get up the courage to ask her out, and when he did she just muttered finally before kissing him. Breaking up with him was the hardest decision of his life, and he still regrets it. He's tried dating other girls, but none of them compare to his ex. He's happy to come home and see her, though he's not sure she feels the same way.

He was a nerd in high school, always having his nose in the books when he wasn't playing the bass. His own band mates like to tease him for being so wrapped up in the fictional world rather than the real world, but it was through that passion that he met his girlfriend. Like him, she was a nerd, more concerned with her book characters than real life, and they clicked right away. He thought of her as a princess, and she thought of him as a knight. Life was great, and he couldn't bring himself to break up with her. So he left without a word. He regrets ending things like that, and hopes that by coming home he can give her some closure.

He was always musical in school, playing a number of instruments in the school's marching band. It was through the marching band that he met his girlfriend, a color guard captain. He thought she was gorgeous, and she thought he was bad news. As the pastor's daughter, she was forbidden from dating, but that didn't deter the Keyboardist. He went to the church every day for a month to get permission to date her, and eventually was allowed to date her. When he had to break things off, he did it through a letter left on her car the day he left. He doesn't know how she reacted, but he knows she won't be happy when he comes back. Not when he heard her break up song on the radio recently, making it clear she's still not happy.

He was the only popular one of the group, a lacrosse player who was known for throwing some great parties. It was at one of those parties that he ran into his girlfriend, a transfer student who had come to pick up her drunk cousin. He started flirting with her, confused as to why she seemed to want nothing to do with him. After she left, he started to research her, determined to step up his game and get the quiet girl to open up. It took him a year, but by junior year he had her talking and dating him. He broke up with her in person, and watched as the tears streamed down her face. It took a lot for him not to hold her before she left, and that memory plays in his mind a lot. The band's first hit single, "Why I Can't", was written about that memory, and some of his other contributions to the album all revolve around her. He hopes to see her again just to make sure she's okay, and he also hopes that maybe she can be okay in a relationship with him again.

She was a bit of a nobody in high school, a girl with a major attitude that some said was more trouble than she was worth. Being a foster kid, she found sarcasm and attitude her best defense, so when the Lead Singer came around the first time, she blew him off as just another pathetic skirt chaser. It wasn't until he started pursuing her that she thought maybe he was something different. But when he broke her heart, she disappeared, worrying all those who knew her for a year. She resurfaced six months ago in town, coming to care for her ailing foster mother, the only family she really has. As for where she was for all that time, she hasn't said, but there are rumors going around that she may of gone to find her real parents.

She was a happy and confident child, one that always believed in doing the right thing. When she saw the Guitarist being bullied, she didn't hesitate before going to save him. She didn't expect that decision to lead to so much heartache, and there are moments when she wishes she could of left him to the bullies. After their break up, she started drinking, finding it a better solution than facing her pain head on. The drinking led to her getting into an accident her sophomore year, which turned her life around. Now, she's struggling to remain sober while getting her master's degree and studying counseling, wanting to keep kids from making the same mistakes she did. As for her ex, she avoids things about him at all costs, afraid that he might send her back to the bottle again.

She was a nerd in school, one who thought she'd be alone forever with a cat until she met the Bassist. After meeting him, she thought she had found her Prince Charming, and often wrote stories about their happy ending. But one day, he just disappeared. He stopped answering his phone, ignored her texts, and his parents told her he was gone on tour. She struggled with the lack of closure, and the struggle has led to some successful online stories and great story assignments. She graduated with a degree in English from an Ivy League school and is in the process of writing her first book, and believes the relationship to be in the past. Sure, she never got closure, but in her mind, the stories she wrote were enough to close that door in her life, though she does wonder if he really had a good reason or was just running like a coward.

She was the pastor's daughter in a small town, meaning she grew up feeling scrutinized by everyone in town. All her life she often felt like an ugly duckling, and it wasn't until she met the Keyboardist that she realized that maybe she was pretty after all. Dating him was like a fairy tale for her, even if she had been against it in the beginning. She didn't see the break up coming, and the letter on the hood of her car came as a complete shock to her. She cried for a few days before pouring her feelings out onto paper, creating what would become her first album. Though, success didn't come at first to her. She started out at college, but found herself restless after a semester and left college for Nashville, where she waited tables before meeting a producer who agreed to give her a shot. She recently released her first album, full of break up and love songs that teen girls relate to. She not as big as her ex, but she's getting there, and like her ex, she's in town for the fair. As for seeing him, she's hoping that it might provide some new material for her next album.

She transferred to the school in the middle of her freshmen year after her parents divorce. She went to live with her Aunt, Uncle, and two cousins, and found herself struggling to fit in. Her old high school had been a private art school she stood out at, but in a public high school she found herself invisible. When she met her boyfriend, she didn't understand why he was talking to her, believing firmly that he had to be drunk to see her at all. But as his interest in her grew, so did her interest in him. By the time her junior year rolled around, she was happy again, and thought she'd stay that way, especially after being accepted to NYU to study photography. However, her illusion was shattered when the Drummer broke up with her, and her only comfort came in her photos. She created some great collage pieces after her break up, all of which are in her Aunt's basement as she can't bring herself to face them. Since graduating college she's become a world renowned photographer, her photos featured in travel magazines and in galleries. She's back in town for her cousin's wedding, and to do a charity gala showing to benefit her charity.

                                                      Time: 6:30 P.M.
                                                      Weather: Warm with a nice breeze going through. It's about 75 degrees outside
                                                      City we're in: Davis, California
                                                      What's going on: The Band got in late last night, and no one is really aware they are in town. The flyers advertising the fair next week are up, though their name isn't on the flyer, only a mention of a "Surprise Guest". Currently, everything for the fair is being set up, but a mini fair is being held at the local mall as a test run for vendors. There are free drinks, food, and a few small rides set up in the mall's parking lot. Elsewhere in the town the old movie theater is hosting a "Broadway Tribute night" playing back to back feature films based on or inspiring Broadway musicals.

                                                      By the Way, is back in town. I heard from my friend who heard from her boyfriend's cousin that they were seen arriving at the airport late last night. I wonder if that's true, and if it is, do their exes know?

                                                      Look who else is back, Miss Marisol herself. Last time I saw her, she was crying as she drove off to school five years ago, though I'm not sure if those tears were due to leaving home or the fact that she and her ex hadn't talked since that night. She seems better now, but who knows when those tears might rear their ugly head again.

                                                      Speaking of exes knowing, I heard that Marisol's friends and family are keeping her exes return a secret for obvious reasons. Poor girl, she's probably gonna be in for a shock if he tracks her down.

                                                      Anyone with access to the internet tends to know the following about the band:

                                                      Their first album was the self titled, By the Way, released shortly after they finished their first tour. It went platinum and six singles were released from the album. The most well known is their break up regret hit, Why I Can't. The other five are, Behind the Lens (rumors swirl it was written about the Drummer's ex, a photographer), When I Met You (supposedly written about The Bassist's ex), Microscope (possibly written about the Keyboardist's ex), Stand Up (no one's sure who it's about, though I heard some of the exes think it's about the Guitarist's ex), and Spark (dedicated on their album to the Lead Singer's Ex).

                                                      Their second album came out two years after their first. It was a mix of simple life songs, break up songs, and love songs. The singles from that album were, I Heard Your Song (which came out close to the time the first single from the Keyboardist's ex dropped), Between the Lines, Maps, and Yellow Dresses.

                                                      Their third album, What You Need, just came out three months ago with three songs currently released as hits, and two ready to be released. The three released thus far are, Letters on the Hood, Only You, and Let's Dream Again. There are rumors swirling that they are going to play some new songs at the fair, though those are just rumors at this point.

                                                      The band's love lives have been splashed all over magazines in the last few months, and many girls have posters of the boys on their walls.

                                                      Interviews reveal mostly random personal facts about the boys with their exes being a subject that they have mostly refused to comment on. Their manager suggested they not out who their songs are about, though some who went to high school with the band have done that for them.

                                                      Davis, California is a gorgeous city, large but with a small college town atmosphere. There is plenty to do, from bars to the arts (including plenty of museums). The scenery is beautiful as well, as there are multiple parks and nature reserves that are great for walking or hiking. The closest bigger city is Sacramento, with San Fransisco not to far off either.

                                                      For the sake of the story, the favorite band hang out was always the Wonderland Diner, a small mom and pop pie place. They have regular food as well, but almost everyone goes for the pie. Another favorite hang out spot was Arroyo Park, which held a playground and pool. Many of the kids grew up going to the park, and the older teens liked to hang out by the pool working on their tans.

                                                      The town throws this fair every year, and when it's in town it's basically the only thing to do. There are rides, food, concerts, games, and random oddities galore. The fair has been a tradition dating back centuries, and the organizers spend the entire year trying to top themselves from last year. Last year, the big draw was elephant rides. This year the big draw is the "surprise musical guest" which has everyone guessing about what big artist they got.

                                                      The other big fair event is the "Mr & Miss Davis" contest. Anyone can nominate someone to compete, and the only age requirement is that they be over the age of 18. Contestants compete in a pageant of sorts, with the contest being judged on the contestants question and answer portion, on their trivia knowledge, and on their home submission - which can be anything from a pie they baked to a picture they drew. Winners are declared on the second to last night, and on the last night they are included on the farewell parade's Mr and Miss Float.

                                                      Speaking of the farewell parade, it draws a huge crowd as well. The route circles the town and leads back to the fair. The parade is the final hoorah, and after the parade most of the town ends up at the fair. After that night the fair shuts down and quietly leaves for the next town.
