I'm not a fan of purples, but there's something about sunlit lavender that I like. Probably Gaia's association of it with Espeon, back in the hay day of Pokemon items. I don't really care for Despair (naming conventions aside, people can name their schemes whatever they want), and the major turn off of Helio for me is that akio purple/pink. It's got that sheen that I also dislike in swampberry and sweetberry.
I think the thing that saves Despair for me is the amethyst contrasting w/ sunlit lavender. Not quite sure if this amethyst is the same as the one in the scheme, but it's what I had to work with.

It took me a while to get to this one, but I'm pretty picky and ended up being challenged by making something coherent in despair. Despair is mostly cutesy things it feels like, meaning it's my bane.
Let's start with helio.

Now, I love akio. I think it's rich and cleaner than ghastly, and looks good with a variety of colors. Going full 'helio' though out of the akio, I think puts it too close to ghastly. We have enough raven/offblack/black, don't we? Akio is at it's best (and helio by extension), when you just go big and bold with the ivory and offwhite, depending on which items you decide to focus on. Naturally adding a touch of gold brings it all together better. In this case, it makes it closer to miserable, again rich, cleaner, and brighter. I can't see myself using too much true helio, as I don't need all the darkness that clutters many of it's poses, but just using the akio parts of helio isn't hard with how the more elegant items of the scheme are blocked. The cutesy items are mishmashed and it's very hard to just use akio with those busier poses.
Despair caused me despair. Not truly, but I was mildly frustrated. There are many old, good items in sunlit lavender, but they aren't all tagged 'lavender', making this more challenging. There's also many old amethyst items that either count as closer to drachen, or closer to ghastly; even if we're frustrated with modern tags at times, they are still better than they used to be. Over all, I'm not happy with the item choices for despair so far. No fault of the users of course, they picked things that they wear every day and that's what you -should- do, but it means I'm left with precious little to make either badarse or graceful in an avatar. My saving grace was finding a sword I'd forgotten about, and is one hundred percent Accessory License acceptable, because it's on the belt slot, with a visible belt. Boy, do I have ideas now....
- I respectfully request that tomorrow my poor eventide avatar be picked up to the folder for eventide avatars. I left it up all week, but it's my fault for not posting as frequently as usual. I just haven't gotten much computer time.
I'll switch to it whenever is convenient for you. I'm just so excited to wear light!helio at the moment.

I like Helio but I like it better with bright colors then black. And its all mostly one pose items, I wish there were more item variety.
I like despair, I just wish that most of the items will get released so I can buy them.
