why is being gay such a frowned upon thing?

I believe that it's just...you know...why not? As long as there is a reason to dislike someone, do it.

Religious reasons and gender roles

has being gay been frowned upon due to religious teachings in the bible adn other historic texts? is is a just due to what most humans consider normal and not normal?

I am not quite sure why it is frowned upon. Shouldn't people be happy? If you love someone that is the same gender as you and you are no way related then why is this wrong. Do you want to not have them happy? Everyone needs someone and denying happiness to two people of the same gender is not right. They are people too. If you are against it then just put yourself in their shoes. Would you want to be frowned upon because you love someone that is the same gender as you?

I have nothing against this topic. Heck! I don't see a problem with having same sex relationships. They are human too.

I would say today it is mostly because of religion, but then that raises the question of how did it get into religion in the first place and why? So people must have not liked it before religion was invented in the first place, so the best way to find that answer would probably be to ask a homophobic atheist why he/she does not like gays.
