Welcome to Gaia! ::

Great idea.
Good job. ;D

But I don't get the picture thing.
Can't just right click on a picture to get it's location?

There's nothing wrong with changing the person's reply, that I can really think of. Just as long as the original reply remains the same and isn't allowed to be editted by others. Not being able to touch other's replies, would make quote boxes unnecessarily long.
Your quoting limitations would imply the same effect, since you can quote things as many times as you desire. If nothing else, your ideas could even become more of a hassle. sad

Perhaps I wasn't clear. I meant to state that the quoter could (read: should) select which text they wanted to quote even if the quote wasn't over the size limit. The quoter just wouldn't be able to edit that quote of the person. The size limit would cut out the quoting of gigantic first posts because they would be over the size limit.

And I have to disagree with the statement that "there's nothing wrong with changing the person's reply." What's the point of quoting then?

Mr Botty
I like turtles.

See, I just made that up. XD

Making quotes not editable (but being able to quote selections of a post) would give more much-needed credibility to quoting.

Yes, please. It annoys the crap out of me when people quote my first post.
@ Spirit Crusher: lol, I understood what you meant. But it's really the original user's post that proclaims if that was actually said or not. To my knowledge, you can't legally create a duplicate of a user on Gaia.

Let me show you some benefits of editing other's posts:
~Many users want to help users with their typing, through their fixes
Eg:
Quote:
I luv Gyia

Eg Fix'd:
Quote:
I love Gaia.

Or with poetry;
Quote:
Eg: roses are red,
violets are blue,
turtles are smelly
and so are you.
Now if I was to highlight this particular part in response to a user, it could be used beneficially as well.
Quote:
Quote:
roses are red,
violets are blue,
turtles are smelly
and so are you.
replace what's highlighted in red, with "sugar is sweet", and you'll have her falling in love with you in no time.
The user would understand what the replier was stating without him having to copy paste the poetry.

Great idea~! In threads that make about 10 pages there's always one person that has to quote the OP...I can't imagine what it's like for people with threads that last like 20+ pages.

In sleep he sang to me,
In dreams he came.
That voice which calls to me,
And speaks my name
And do I dream again?
For now I find,
The Phantom of the Opera is here,
Inside my mind

That's Actually a Pretty Good Idea :3 I find it annoying when people quote the first post when it's pretty long XP I hope this gets done. But I think they need to work on the current glitch where sometimes you can't edit your post and sometimes on someone elses post you can click edit but of course you can't edit their post

Sing once again with me,
Our strange duet.
My power over you,
Grows stronger yet.
And though you turn from me,
To glance behind.
The Phantom of the Opera is there,
Inside your mind.

I have to agree, Saiyan. That can get pretty annoying. sweatdrop
I'm glad I've actually not seen this problem occur for me today, yet.

I think it's a good suggestion, but honestly, it should be added to every post, not just the New Topic post, since Art Shops/EI threads/etc. often have several, several posts at the beginning by the OP that don't need to be quoted.
This would make life SO MUCH EASIER. gonk

Gracious Shapeshifter

This has a loophole to it.

It's simple enough to just type the quoting code out manually, & then copy/paste the post.

Then add images by getting URLs.

Then again the offenders are probably noobs who know not how to do this.

Well, of course, but that's alot more difficult to do so many users wouldn't bother going through such a long process just to make a quote that can be deleted in the matter of seconds by a mod.

I like this idea, I have seen many overstretched pages because of first post quoting.
Yayz for more support!
