Unquotable Original Posters

Most OPs can be very long, and if quoted and replied on the same thread (without the use of shortening the person's thought usage), are considered as nothing but spamming a page, and the OP user will regularly request for the response to be deleted, etc.

My request is to simply give thread creators the option to not have a quote button beside the OP. Meaning, we are given a choice between having this option for our thread, or not. I'm guessing the best place to put the "Disable Quoting OP" option, would be next to the "Add Poll" option, but honestly, wherever the designer feels the option could be the most likely to be seen, would be quite fine with me.



What are the benefits?:
~ First of all, this will benefit the User OP for obvious reasons
~ (If only a slight bit) this will help our beloved Mods out
~ Not as simple for users to plaguirize threads
~ Creates a small form of copywright for the user
~ And gives the OP benefit of the doubt, while still holding all liabilties

My option will allow users to still quote certain parts of a thread, since users are already given the "quote" button, but aren't so easily able to take pictures off of your thread, unless the OP gives them the code, of course. Which taking certain elements from the OP should be allowed by the OP user's permission anyway. If the user happens to lose their thread over ban, etc., but they're also able to take all elements from the thread, still through a various (longer running) task than just copy/paste.

I like this idea. I can't tell you how many times I see people quoting the OP even after it says not you. it annoys me especially when it super long and I end up spending more time scrolling through the same thing over and over because people can;t read the thread rules.

I think it would help out a lot and I don't see why we shouldn't have this option.

I'm not seeing this since anything posted on the message boards basically becomes Gaia's property and they have the right to use it if they so desire.

I'm not seeing this since anything posted on the message boards basically becomes Gaia's property and they have the right to use it if they so desire.

First of all, yes. Of course I meant what I listed above. I really didn't feel like repeating myself.

Secondly; so if I write a piece of poetry on Gaia or the next best-selling book, then Gaia can sell it and make profit on that?
Whatever we say, we're held accountable for; not Gaia.

Finally, the OP user will get the benefit of the doubt by simply what is stated above. It gives them more control, so to speak. But isn't enough to where they could get in trouble with their newly found power.

An option to remove the quote button from the first post would be loved. Many threads the first post is really really really really really really really really really long, and doesn't need quoting. Then you get the people who either just quote it or go "Yeah!" >.<

Doesn't take long to delete from a modding POV, but it does cause a pain to the people in the thread.

I'm glad you like the idea, and I also hadn't known how long it really took to delete a comment, etc. (I really didn't think too long, since it doesn't take us too long to delete our own) but the less hassle for you guys, the happier I am, because it means you're off helping Gaia in some other way than such a small task of some newb or ignorant reader that happened to take up your time, than take on much greater tasks like responding to my threads. biggrin

Good idea. :3 I think this would be a useful feature. The default should still be quotable though, I think.
